Tron Legacy trailer #2 released + New photo and Comic-Con panel video

Disney has released the second trailer for Joseph Kosinksi’s "Tron Legacy". The trailer gives us a closer look at a younger — achieved through digital effects — Jeff Bridges as Clu. The studio also released an official image from the film which is included above. Not at Comic-Con this year? No problem. The panel presentation — sans a bit where they showed about eight minutes of new footage — is available to view online.

Those won’t be the only characters we’ll see on screen. Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki in "Thor", is hinting that his character will be in the film, telling Cinema Blend "I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you." Loki is rumored to be a villain in the film. Hiddleston makes the comment in the interview segment below where he also discusses the complex relationship between Loki and Thor:

Marvel also launched the official site for the film which you can check out here. And here’s the logo:

First still from Captain America: The First Avenger teaser trailer

The teaser trailer for "Captain America: The First Avenger" was shown during Comic-Con, but Marvel hasn’t made that footage available just yet. However, a still from the teaser has made its way online. It’s low quality, but it gives us our first look at Chris Evans as Captain America. In the meantime, Marvel has launched the official website for the film at CaptainAmerica.Marvel.com. And lastly, Marvel displayed the Captain America shield (which was used in the movie) on the Comic-Con floor. Check it out below.

Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig make their Comic-Con debut for Cowboys & Aliens + New photo

Universal Pictures released the first photo from Jon Favreau’s "Cowboys & Aliens", written by "Star Trek" writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman along with LOST writer/executive producer Damon Lindelof. The photo features Daniel Craig.  "Cowboys & Aliens" co-stars Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde. The panel marked the Comic-Con debuts of both Craig and Ford [HitFix]:

Ford, who co-stars with Daniel Craig (also a first timer) in the Jon Favreau directed adventure, had previously appeared in a live webcast alongside Shia LaBeouf and Steven Spielberg for "Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," but had never journeyed to San Diego himself. A genre icon because of his roles as Indiana Jones, Han Solo and as the noir detective in "Blade Runner," Ford received a rapturous standing ovation from the euphoric Comic-Con crowd. He was visibly moved after the salute that almost lasted five minutes.

During the panel, Jon Favreau confirmed that the film would be released in 2D. Favreau said he wanted to shoot in 3D but that would have required him to use digital cameras instead of film which would have altered the look — particularly the lighting — of the movie. He also ruled out 3D post conversion. "Cowboys & Aliens" is scheduled to hit theaters on July 29, 2011. Here are a few panel observations/coverage links: Cinema Blend, (2) | Hero Complex, (2) | HitFix | Collider | /Film

Watch Ryan Reynolds recite the Green Lantern oath + First character posters

During the panel for "Green Lantern", and as a favor to a young fan, star Ryan Reynolds recited the Green Lantern oath. Check out the video below:

Mark Strong (Sinestro) & Peter Sarsgaard (Hector Hammond)

"Green Lantern" is scheduled to hit conventional and 3D theaters on June 17, 2011. Here’s a round-up of panel coverage/impressions: Cinema Blend | ComingSoon.net, (2) | io9, (2) | MTV Splash Page, (2) | Heat Vision | blastr | Variety |  | Collider | Hero Complex

Guillermo del Toro to direct The Haunted Mansion for Disney

Guillermo del Toro made a surprise appearance at the Disney panel to reveal that he will co-write and direct a new film based on the Disney theme parks attraction "The Haunted Mansion".

"It’s going to be a thrill ride for the whole family but it’s definitely going to be scary,” he said. “(Walt) Disney is one of the creators of some of the scariest images in my childhood. People forget that he not only made sweet images but also images of nightmare. We need to honor that side of the legacy."

The film will have no connection to the 2003 family film that starred Eddie Murphy. Check out the logo below and here’s a round-up of some Comic-Con panel observations/coverage: /Film | SFX | ComingSoon.net

Jack Sparrow’s Comic-Con announcement for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

At the close of the "Tron Legacy" panel, Disney had a surprise for the audience in the form of a teaser trailer of sorts for "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides". The footage features Johnny Depp in character as Captain Jack Sparrow announcing the film to the Comic-Con audience and detailing the basic plot. It was screened in 3D but is available to view in 2D below. Disney also released the official synopsis for the film which you’ll find below along with the official title card. "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" is scheduled to hit conventional and 3D theaters on May 20, 2011.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit franchise—this time in Disney Digital 3D™. Johnny Depp returns to his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise. When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penelope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

The international cast includes franchise vets Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa, and Kevin R. McNally as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam Claflin as a stalwart missionary and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as a mysterious mermaid. In theaters Memorial Day weekend, 2011.

Marvel planning another Punisher movie

After three unsuccessful attempts including most recently the 2008 flop "Punisher: War Zone", Marvel has announced that they’re developing a new "Punisher" movie. This time the film will be produced under the Marvel Studios banner. The announcement was made during Marvel’s Comic-Con panel by company head Kevin Feige [Cinema Blend]:

Feige says that the character is under the welcoming roof of Marvel Studios now and they want to take their own shot at it. Specifically he said he’s hoping for a “Frank Castle” movie shortly, using the real name for Punisher’s vigilante character.

Predators will get a sequel; Rodriguez returning to produce

Despite a disappointing 2nd weekend decline of more than 70%, Robert Rodriguez will get to make another "Predator" movie. Bleeding Cool is reporting that 20th Century Fox is moving forward with a sequel with Rodriguez back as a producer. It hasn’t been announced if "Predators" director Nimod Antal will return for the sequel. "Predators" currently sits at $46.8 million domestically (#3 in the series) and $95.0M worldwide (#4) through three weekends in release. On the plus side, the film was produced on a relatively modest budget of $40 million.

The Hobbit status update: 3D not likely + Talks still on-going with Jackson to direct

During TheOneRing.net fan-panel at Comic-Con it was reported that Peter Jackson has definitively ruled out shooting “The Hobbit” in 3D. Note that this wasn’t a direct quote, however, just something that was relayed through the gang at TheOneRing.net. With regards to the status of the films, they have not been canceled. Conversations are reportedly still on-going with Jackson and executives at both Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema to direct, but MGM’s debt issues remain a looming issue.

There’s going to be another Godzilla?

Why have I not heard of this?

New Godzilla? Classic look? Count me in!

The video with Ryan Reynolds was fantastic…what a wonderful momment for that young boy…

The hot girls of Sucker Punch!! I’m in!

And the news on “The Hobbit” is where?

I don’t see anything other than the mentions in the headline and the first paragraph.

Nice Pirates 4 looks great. Johnny Depp in a role I like!

Where is the Hobbit news?

7. There IS no Hobbit news. it was canceled a month ago.

I’ll Be Mighty Thor If The Avengers Movie Stinks!

8 – WHERE did you get the news that it was actually cancelled? I’ve heard much about delays, but no actual cancellation. They’ll make a fortune with it; they aren’t going to cancel it.

The Hobbit has NOT been canceled. But there’s really nothing new to report. As far as we know, conversations are still on-going with Jackson and executives at Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema to direct. MGM’s debt issues remain a large concern.

Sorry for the confusion though. The Hobbit section is back in the column.

Hobbit is dead according to MGM loosing money. Hell, they can’t even afford another Bond, what makes you think they’ll do the Hobbit?

Rosario, thank you for clearing things up about “The Hobbit.” Another great round-up, BTW. You are doing a fantastic job and it is much appreciated!

Word out of Comic-Con is that the script for Cowboys&Aliens is AMAZING!

Good work, Bob!

I know some people ask “why another one?”, but I think Pirates 4 will breathe new life into the franchise. It has to evolve and it sounds like it will have just the right combo of people from the previous movie with some very intriguing new characters. My only concern is that it has a different director than the other 3. But, I’m sure it’ll be great fun, which is what Pirates has always been. Welcome back, Captain Jack!

Why are they bothering to make a new “Punisher”? They should have gotten the message after THE FIRST TWO BOMBED. What makes them sure the fourth time’s the charm?

I have to wonder about “The Avengers”. Will there be enough screen time for everyone?

On the other hand, that may be exactly why Ed Norton was fired. Mark Ruffalo will earn less money and also take up less screen time. So cynical.

Ryan gave me goosebumps reciting the oath.

If Marvel are to make another Punisher movie, they should do Punisher vs. Daredevil so they can give both characters the reboot they deserve.

Neither has been adequately portrayed on screen.

Although given their tremendous blunder casting Mark what’s-his-face as the Hulk over the brilliant Edward Norton, i wouldn’t expect that a Marvel executive could figure out which way to sit on a toilet seat!

That company has taken a serious nose dive!

Glad to hear there’s a Predators sequel planned though, that movie rocked!

Hmmm… it’s been awhile nice I checked out the Captain America comics, but I don’t remember him wearing lipstick during any period in his Nazi-fightin’ career. Though I must admit that it’s a nice shade they picked out for Johnny Fireplug. Really brings out the red in that costume. ;)

awhile SINCE… I was thinking of something “nice”

Ah, I picked a helluva day to quit sniffing glue.

Mondays are always the worst day to quit!

Based on that one photo posted above, Captain America looks like crap!

I was expecting MUCH better!

Luv the 2nd tron trailer–it seems like legacy has a good story behind it–notice the black hole poster in the kids room–ahhhwhy did movies n tv shows seem better from back then—so it seems clu is the villain-the mcp absorbed him-remembr flynn saying he put everything he knew into clu–so maybe mcp hid part of itself in clu n they merged-in comments fans said who uses pagers anymore how stupid but flynns been stuck in tron world for 20 years he doesnt know we all have cell phones now hah–also bitching cuz the tron world looks more real now–also kinda dumb after the matrix cant go back to black n white faces on backlit sets–we all know virtual reality is more real now–this is a spectacle movie where the 3d if done right will make this movie a vr must see–if the story has depth and adds to trons mythos it could be a multi movie dynasty-we will see but i am geekin out–haunted mansion reboot? Yay-dont make it a comedy this time–

At least Pirates four won’t be bloated like the 3rd one was. It was just too much and too long.

The Hobbit’s situation is pathetic. It’s a license to print money

Wait, any news on Red Dawn? I was told that Red Dawn would have a panel at Comic Con.

Mhmm… this ‘Sucker Punch’ does look… interesting… :D

Oh c’mon! Trekmovie out scooped you Superherohype?! I had to get my Avengers footage here?! Well, I’ll stop my griping over there now. For a moment it looked like DC pulled a rabbit out of the hat and stole the show back from Marvel. They at least had footage of their panel. Tsk, tsk. Be prepared Marvel.

Thank you Rosario and company.

TRON legacy : WHY oh WHY must DEC be so freakin’ far away ?

– W –
* The only film I’ll see in 3D too *

can you do a Star Trek product overview of SDCC? I know Qmx showed stuff off as well as eFx.

I would have loved to sit in on the concept meeting where they were discussing “Sucker Punch” … “Okay, it’s kinda like the Pussycat-Dolls-in-prison versus a horde of Nazi-alien-monster-mobsters … with music.”

Great. Can’t figure out who the target demo is, though? Oh yeah, young men with hormone imbalances. LOL!

RED on the other hand, looks pretty good for a Geriatric Action Flick – maybe that’s a new genre (G.A.F.).

Once again I am so impressed by the work that has gone in here to keep us up to date. Trekmovie really rocks- as the kiddies say!
Thanks for the work Rosario.

And I’m also very much looking forward to Cowboys and Aliens. With that cast and that producton company it just has to be worth a look. :-))

#23 lol Harry, you are a hard man! I know you are the most ascerbic poster on here, by a country mile, mister, but you are not seriously writing it off based on a stll are you? That takes cojones!
Harry, if you are, man, you are my hero! :-))))))

Buzz, I grew up reading Captain America comics and when the producers decided to show one pic at Comic-Con to promote the new movie, you can bet they had a ton of different shots to pick from. All I’m saying is that if THIS is the best shot they could put forward to get us excited about the new movie, boy, are we in trouble. I thought Cap should look a LOT better than that.

I’ll grant you this, the shield in the glass case looks good. :>)

Some great stuff coming up but I feel too much is being pushed for 3D

Captain America has barely started filming yet, and we’re already slamming it? That’s quick.

#36

Earlier today I read an article about the Captain America teaser written by someone who was at Comic-Con. According to him, the footage of Cap has him wearing a suit that was used in a screen test and not the actual film. And one of the guys on the production team said that the real suit is less “cartoony” than what was shown in the leaked concept sketches from last month. So, hopefully maybe (fingers crossed) we’ll get to see Captain America as God (Jack Kirby) intended.

I also read that Joe Johnston is trying to inject a gritty, “Raiders of the Lost Ark” feel into the movie. This gives me hope. Then again, I had hopes for Jurassic Park 3 and The Wolfman….

Both Sucker Punch AND Battle for LA are being released on 25 March???

BOTH Avengers and THOR are being released on the 6 May??

Pity

Sucker Punch – yeah boy! Babes and boom.

39

Vultan, thanks for letting us know. I feel a little reassured! :>)

#42

Your welcome, Harry.

Captain America has always been one of my favorite superheroes, and until I see something that looks (authentically) bad from the production, I’m going to hold onto the hope that Johnston will deliver in the end. After all, he did direct one of my favorite films from the ’90s — the ridiculously underrated Rocketeer adaptation. Now, if he can create in Captain America the same sense of adventure and old-fashioned Nazi-killin’ spirit he did in that film, I’ll be the first one in line to see “The First Avenger.”

Vultan, it sounds like we are very much on the same page!

I lied. I’m still annoyed. I’m still venting. Marvel….put up the Avengers footage!

I’ve said this a few times. Warner Brothers dropped the ball years ago by not having the foresight to do video footage (historical documents if you wish) of Mel Blanc in the booth doing the now famous cartoons. They didn’t realize what hey had with Van Halen in the mid 70’s and recorded no footage of their early concerts – during their hey day. Seems Warner Bros. has finally learned from their mistakes.

Doesn’t Marvel have a studio now? Hmm.

Wow…another site to fall prey to the “Fooled by Godzilla Fanart”. Thats not the new design…its just a fan-made picture from deviantart. Im actually kinda shocked that Trekmovie didn’t realize this.

hah yah rocketeer was a disney movie back then too—and now disney owns marvel hmmmm–tha was a movie that shoulda been more popular it was great n the comic it was based on also great-cap is kinda like a raiders sorta hero-i dont think any movie will be able to do kirby justice–and damn with iron man cap avengers n thor disney ought to be paying kirbys family millions for his creative genius–stan lee gits all the glory n kirby gits squat-marvel never woulda beat dc without kirby in the 60s—

#36 Harry, I didn’t mean to belittle your interest in the character (personally I’ve never heard of him. Didn’t Dom DeLuise play him in Cannonball Run? ;-P)
But, c’mon, one picture? lol

#47

Yeah, Rocketeer should’ve been another Indiana Jones franchise, but apparently Disney, in their infinite wisdom, decided to open the movie against another little sci-fi movie — Terminator 2: Judgement Day! Suffice to say, Billy Campbell never had a chance against Ah-nuld. Thank God Eisner is no longer running Disney. I mean, the guy wanted to change the Rocketeer’s iconic helmet to some generic NASA thing. Joe Johnston threatened to walk if they did.

48

One very AMATEURISH picture, Buzz.
