OH myyyyyyyyy.

Looks to be very Entertaining. I like Georges Commerical. He is a great Spokesman. Now if only we can get George and the Shat to do a Commerical Together. or maybe have them both on the Big Bang Theroy playing them selves. Now that would get everyones attention.

is he wearing the same brown leather jacket from star trek III? I can’t watch the clip – in uk :(

– don’t call me tiny

I too must remain “Big Bang Theory” clip-less.

*swears*

I like George. He seems really comfortable playing off of his Hollywood image….

Yeah, I think it is the jacket! Good eye, Mach1.

Thought so….although its not really a jacket, it is more of a …throw…I just always remembered it from STIII as he wore it when he became badass to break bones out…

Films always have that…when a good guy becomes badass, they put on a leather jacket. Kirk did it too, as did picard in insurrection….

Freakn Clip won’t play in this god damn country fukn aaarrggghhh!!!

That’s awesome

Its more than the cape/jacket, its the whole Star Trek III – IV Sulu outfit. I bet George kept the original costume. And I’m not surprised it still fit.

He has that great laugh!
And that is so cool that he is wearing the Trek III-IV outfit in BBT.

Coming out and being able to be himself (openly) was the best thing to happen to his career; it opened up a whole new realm for him as a comic actor. I think GT is a great guy, and here’s hoping his future is a prosperous one. And he has the perfect spokesman voice as well.

If Shatner can land a sitcom, I think George could handle one too. ; )

I was thinking it was the same jacket as well… So I went to trekcore and sure enough, it’s the same outfit.

Nice touch by the producers to do their homework and have Sulu and Starbuck show up in canon wardrobe.

I know this will sound bad, but am I the only one that seems bothered by the fact that Sharp hired an Asian-American to advertise the addition of the color “yellow” to it’s HDTVs?

Its gotta be a reproduction. I know for a fact that George wasn’t allowed to keep the cape.

Is this going to be the first time since 1969 that George Takei and William Shatner have appeared on series television on the same channel within the same hour…?

14– ummm sometimes a cigar is just a cigar…don’t overthink things, or if you do, don’t type them on the interweb.

Takei is quite a character.

^^ 1. Hence the need for “Actor Portrayal.”

2. Also, what is WITH the “Oh my” thing?

3. See the Quattron at your local Best Buy.

Big Bang clip not available in my country either : (

When are people going to realize that this new ‘Technology’ thats being toted in this ad is a gimmick?

Think about it, what color makes up Green? Anyone who’s ever used a zip-lock bag knows thats Yellow and Blue. Having a channel for yellow is kinda redundant don’t you think?

Quite possible. Also they shared a court scene on Wind Fever, a pre-trek show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gIojTJPLEA

Ha!

Hello

For all those outside of the US who can’t view the GT clips, here’s a youtube link…

^ Good man!

@14 Well, it’s an Asian company so I think that might cancel out any perceived racial jabs.

#3 looks like the entire outfit!….awesome….wonder if George and Shat bumped into each other on the set somewhere?…that would have been classic!

Cool seeing the Star Trek III-IV outfit! George looks great.

He has an amazingly resonant baritone. Love his voice.

But in response to Hat Rick’s question (@19), the “Oh, my” thing always strikes me as a little. . . I dunno. Weren’t they Kirk’s last words?

LOL try watching clips of anything in the UAE… it is either blocked due to copyright or government censorship… and I love BBT

I love The Big Bang Theory. I love it when they make references to Star Trek and its actors…like the Leonard Nimoy one…

Sheldon: I possess the DNA of Leonard Nimoy?! Do you know what this means?! With a healthy ovum I can grow my own Leonard Nimoy!!!

Kinda stupid but it was hilarious. Now to make up for not being allowed to watch the clip (curse you CBS!) I’m going to go watch The Big Bang Theory…

@21 Ummm, actually the Yellows in a TV monitor are made by combining Red and Green pixels. You might have been sleeping through physics?

I often do a demonstration with three lasers, one red, one green, and one yellow. If you overlap the red and green dots are eyes perceive that as yellow, however clearly it’s not as “yellow” as the dot from the yellow laser.

The embedded Sharp commercial is the old one. The new one about the 3D TV is here:

Love the Sulu and Starbuck costumes on BBT. Nice they went with something other than the obvious uniform for Sulu, but some viewers might think those are supposed to be George Takei’s regular clothes!

32 – Old, yes, but interesting…

>;>}

Gotta love George Takei!

P.S. Kind of cool to see Sulu and Starbuck together…I am now offically a nerd

George Takei and Katie Sackoff talk about the Big Bang Theory and the costumes they used at

http://www.accesshollywood.com/dish-of-salt-tv-roundup-october-9-2010_video_1253639

Oh, that Access Hollywood report also has a brief interview with Bill Shatner.

JJ should put HIM in the next movie!
He wouldn’t mind a cameo, unlike SOME people.

Sackoff in that suit….. Helloooooooooo.

Total geek awesomeness!

^36. Interesting, TBBT asked the actors to bring their own costumes! Sackoff admits she stole her costume from BSG (I recall her admitting that before in another interview or appearance), but Takei says Gene Roddenberry gave him his costume. But…. Roddenberry wasn’t a producer on Star Trek III or IV and wouldn’t have had authority. So….?

GR was an “executive consultant” on IV, which was almost certainly a powerless title, BUT he was back on the lot developing TNG around the same time and thus his studio clout was on the upswing. And considering there were probably 2 or 3 copies of the same costume, I wouldn’t think it impossible that he told George to snarf it and no one ever missed it. Back in the day, Majel, Nichelle, and Bill all appropriated their respective custom-made wigs and/or hairpieces and the production let it slide.

George also either kept, appropriated, was given, or bought from the studio his Star Trek VI uniform, which I believe he wears when passing out treats to the neighborhood kiddies on Halloween.

And whoever asked up-thread, “Oh MY” gained fame from George’s Howard Stern Show appearances.

Re:#41, I found this youtube clip last year of a Q&A with Katee Sackhoff. Skip to 2:50 regarding the costumes.

^42. The uniform George wore this year in a video with his husband has gold trim on the jacket flap similar to Admiral Kirk’s in Star Trek II-IV. The only time a captain had that trim was when newly-demoted Kirk was still wearing his admiral’s jacket with captain insignia in the closing scenes of IV. The gold was gone from Kirk’s jacket in Star Trek V and was not on Sulu’s jacket in VI or Voyager. I think George’s gold-trimmed uniform is the one he wore in Star Trek: New Voyages.

The uniform he wore in the post-VI photo session for the cover of “To the Stars” doesn’t have the gold trim but does weirdly have photoshopped rank and insignia. Maybe George had the gold trim added in subsequent years.

Maybe James Cawley will pop in and give us a lecture on George Takei’s costumes and their provenence. He would certainly know …

George is cool.
