Star Trek’s Chris Pine is out promoting his new action movie, Unstoppable. Intermittently he also talks a tiny bit about Star Trek, and he has also revealed that he is just not able to settle down. Chris Pine: not ready for girlfriend, buying house, flirting, denies broke captain’s chair
Since jumping into the big time as James T. Kirk in Star Trek, Chris Pine has become very busy. It also seems that Chris shares something with his Star Trek character, and that is being married to his work. Even though he is the subject of much celebrity gossip, the actor tells UK Glamour (via Digital Spy) that he is just not able to settle down:
It’s very hard to have a girlfriend with this job. When I get a part, I jump down what I call the ‘rabbit hole’. I’m in the zone, trying to figure out a character, and I have a hard time being able to balance my work with romance. That’s not to say I’m not romantic. How can you be involved in storytelling and not be some kind of romantic? And it’s not to say that if the right girl presented herself, it wouldn’t be lovely. I’d like to settle down one day. But not now.
Pine may not be ready to settle down, but in the video interview with Extra below, he does reveal that he is finally putting all that cash to use and moving out of his apartment and he has bought a house. And even though he isn’t ready for a girlfriend that doesn’t stop him from keeping in the game as can be seen where he complimented the interviewer’s shoes (smooth move Chris). However, she lost him when she referred to Star Trek saying "long live and prosper". Chris quickly corrected. The video also features Chris’ Unstoppable co-star Rosario Dawson showing her Trek nerdiness, discussing what it was like to work with the new Kirk.
In another video interview with BDK Reviews (below), Chris Pine talked briefly about working on the 2009 Star Trek movie, revealing that the giant hands he was seen in (side effect of one of McCoy’s drugs) were prosthetics and not CGI, but Chris actually said he doesn’t mind working with greenscreens and CGI. Chris also responded to an apparent accusation from Star Trek co-star John Cho that Pine "broke" the captain’s chair, with Chris explaining:
The thing wasn’t bolted down for god’s sake. The chair is mammoth, and I have a small ass and I was trying to fill the space and was rocking back and forth and the thing toppled over.
Last week many TrekMovie commenters noted the photos and the leather pants Chris wore for his new Details magazine cover. Talking to Access Hollywood, Chris said it was all photoshop:

Chris is now back in Vancouver, Canada shooting the action comedy This Means War, where he and Tom Hardy (Shinzon from Star Trek: Nemesis) fight over the affections of Reesse Witherspoon. Both actors have been photographed doing shooting for the film.

My favorite part of Star Trek 09 was the scene with Kirk and McCoy getting onto the Enterprise.. I actually laughed out loud when he raised up those big hands.. nice back-and-forth between Pine and Urban there.. good chemistry seemed like..
Pine was one of the best parts of Trek-09. He made Kirk his own, and didn’t try to out-Shat Shatner. The relationship with Bones was perfect.

1. – Wouldn’t it be interesting, for a moment, if the next big trek villain WAS a woman? In the history of Trek, there has been memorable women foes (Sela, Charvanek, most notably the Borg Queen, although that represented the Borg itself) But without the aid of the Borg, could a woman enemy carry the esteemed role of “Trek Villain”? Obviously the actress would have to be name that could bring gravitas to the role, and the story surrounding her would have to be dynamic. Food for thought…
CP talked about TMW, said it would be a movie with lots of action, romance and lots of comedy too. …. And rumors coming out of the set say that the scenes are hilarious! … I think it will be a very good movie! … can’t wait!!!

CP said in an interview for “accesshollywood” he “throws up a bunch of nonsense when he gives these interviews” (something more or less like )!…..I think it’s a trick to not talking much of personal life. ……. but does not give much result because then he has to be in explaining… as it always has someone taking the wrong conclusion about what he said …. He does not want to talk to whoever he’s dating, that is! ….. this story he does not date when shooting is not true since he was dating the lady (I do not speak her name) while he was filming “Unstoppable”!
“This Means War” looks disappointing. Another romantic comedy. Judging from the title, I was expecting Bugs Bunny to be involved…. sigh….

You’re a great person, Anthony Pascale, bringing all these pictures and interviews of Chris Pine. And Chris is such a sweet, cool guy!
As far as relationships go, Chris may have very high expectations of what and how a marriage should be and does not think he can live up to those. Like a lot of people, he is just cautious and given the high divorce rate in Hollywood among actors, it is hardly surprising.

Who knows what the next five years might bring for him? I hope nothing but the best. Sadly I seriously doubt I would/could ever be the “right girl”, so I have to hope that she is out there somewhere. I see/hear – quite possibly the patter of a little pinelet or two within the next ten years?
Anyway, earlier this year he was seen with an ex-girlfriend from a few years back catching up and doing a little shopping, so it appears that he is able to maintain a nice friendship, if nothing more. That’s so neat, so cool.

OT – Calling Dee! I have looked at the Chris Pine Network and have read the Glamour magazine article. Great, btw. Oh, and the Pine man certainly looks good in those suits, look even better without the ties, but good all the same.

As for the “long live and prosper” gaffe referred to, how many know that Roddenberry wrote it that way first, and the on-air delivery was a different? Either an actor or a typist put it differently, “live long and prosper.” Which makes more sense to me, but Gene actually preferred it that way and sold bumper stickers and such saying it his originally-intended way, with an explanation in one of his Lincoln Enterprises catalogs.
BTW, Anthony, there is some movement on the “Paragon’s Paragon” field; I have heard from John C himself! Details soon on the site.
