Here is the full synopsis and more images:

Synopsis:

Blockbuster filmmaker Jon Favreau directs Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in an event film for summer 2011 that crosses the classic Western with the alien-invasion movie in a blazingly original way: Cowboys & Aliens. Joined by an arsenal of top moviemakers—Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci—he brings an all-new action thriller that will take audiences into the Old West, where a lone cowboy leads an uprising against a terror from beyond our world.

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents—townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

The script for Cowboys & Aliens is by Star Trek’s Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof (television’s Lost), based on Platinum Studios’ graphic novel created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. Grazer, Howard, Rosenberg, Kurtzman and Orci produce. Spielberg and Denis L. Stewart executive produce.

Has anybody read the comic? What do the aliens look like?

This is the movie I’m most looking forward to this summer!! :D
Thank you, for adapting something original.

lookin good.

Ok… That looks really interesting.

The guys were out in New Mexico writing the story for Star Trek during production on this movie. I wonder if any of that western vibe rubbed off onto the star trek sequel?

Booyah!

Gotta say, this is looking better and better!!

5 — So you’re saying ST12 is “Spectre of the Gun” with enough budget to finish the buildings? Cool.

“Cowboys and Aliens” looks like a summer blockbuster. And that’s fine. I keep hoping that Trek will include some smaller themes. We’ve seen the boys save the universe so many times, it’s a little old. How about getting Kirk to stick with one woman for more than a week? That’d be an interesting story.

That trailer was impressive, most impressive. Oops, wrong franchise. Kapla!

John Eaves (Star Trek) created a lot of designs for this film. He said he had a great time working on it.

Actually can’t wait for this one. Been waiting to see some footage/trailer for a while. Of course it’s only a teaser BUT so far so good.

Wow, Harrison Ford was born to wear a wide-brimmed hat. But I’m guessing from the trailer this isn’t a sequel to “The Frisco Kid” (1979).
Oy…

;)

Pretty cool, sorta like James Bond meets ID with westerns thrown in.

Hey Bob,

Looks like fun! I’ll be going.

I hope not Anthony, I prefer a more futuristic sci fi star trek that stirs up controversy and creates a new standard for film making

Trailer looks good. There is a fake one floating around for Green Lantern that rips off the ST09 trailer so bad – make me wonder if the guys who lifted the soundtrack and scenes really though no one would notice.

Harrison Ford looks good. Enough good names attached to make this interesting.

The only issue I have with this concept is if Aliens can traverse vast distances to earth, thousands of years at light speed, surely the aliens can vaporize the guys on the horses.

Even earth’s crude Abomb built in the early 1900s can kill the guys on the horses, my only complaint about this type of film.

Reminded me of the Borg Sphere firing cheap shots of phaser pulses at the pheonix in first contact.

idk if im not open minded enough or such but the idea of cowboys vs aliens feels absolutely ridiculous (sorry for the bad english).

Wow…Olivia Wilde has been busy! :D Lol, I already want to see this movie. It is like Bond mixed with an old Western film and then somebody threw in alien tech and invasions. :D Actually reminds me of his one episode of JLU…

good trailer.. might have to check this one out..

hope it has as much Harrison Ford in it as the trailer seems to portray..

Meh

@5

I hope it does rub off. :) That’s closer to the original TOS pitch!

Though it ended up being more of a submarine drama in space in many of the”gun battle” episodes.

When I think of a western of think of the drama of antagonism embodied in tense and deceptively simple scenes, be that a gun battle or the dialogue leading up to it.

With all the heavy-handed bombast I see in films today, basically killing the “cool” by overdoing it, that’s just the kind of influence a franchise like Trek’s needs.

…Something real to keep hold on so it doesn’t get lost in the special-effects.

Wait a minute… two guys who intensely dislike each other come together to fight an alien threat. So, it’s Trek ’09 with horses? ;)

Lookin good!

Looks like it’s gonna be good!

Hope there is a campfire and beans scene…

Didnt know much about the Comic, now I’ll have to pick it up lol Either way, from what I see here it looks like this could be a really cool flick! Will check it out.

I want to ask Bob is it easier and or different to make a screen play from a novel or comic than it is from scratch for him. And any tips on that for a newbie writter. I want to adopt “Last and First Men” to a screen play. I read the books, but I’m still not 100% certain how to approach it yet.

In additional news…. ‘Antimatter’ captured by CERN scientists in dramatic physics breakthrough

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/8141780/Antimatter-captured-by-CERN-scientists-in-dramatic-physics-breakthrough.html

I hope this one’s good and interesting. It’s been years since Harrison Ford’s impressed me but I like for him to do it again.

C&A already has one strike against it as far as I’m concerned. It really bugs me when westerns are too “clean”. The costumes in the trailer (especially Craigs) are super-cut, tailored, pressed and …..too clean, even when it seems they’re not supposed to be.

More authentic western costumes and sets would make the juxtaposition with the sci-fi elements more jarring and interesting, IMHO.

Still I hope it’s good.

#5 Anthony – I remember that subject came up with one of the guys in an article I read online earlier this summer, or thereabouts – can’t remember where I read it or who they were talking to, but I do remember the same question popped up in the interview. And I’ll be damned if I can’t remember what the response was either. LOL Might be a good question to toss at Bob when he pops in. It would be a good tip o’ the phaser to the ‘wagon train to the stars’ concept.

It’s THIRTEEN! YAY!

#26 – it’ll make for one helluva good ‘Blazing Saddles’ mash-up on YouTube when it makes it to DVD. LOL!

WOW!. I was looking forward to it before now im just plain excited. It looks to start out like any ole westeren but changes to something so great. Seeing Harrison Ford in this movie will be awesome. Bob and Comp. You guys are realy outdoing your selves. Oh. Love your work on Hawaii five O and can’t wait for Trek 12.

Yeah! …Looks Great!!!

Harrison Ford for the Trek sequel as Kirk Prime!

Looks like a LOT of fun!

And if Jon Favreau can remember the light and breezy touch he brought to the first IRON MAN movie (and seemed to forget by the plodding, heavy-handed second one), this could be a really neat movie; perhaps everything the terrible 1998 bastardization of WILD WILD WEST should have been. I welcome another stab at the somewhat rare hybrid of science fiction and western (“Firefly” was proof that it CAN be done well…).

Anyway, this trailer really had my attention (enough to tantalize, but not to spoil). Great cast, too! Can’t wait. ; )

It kind of reminds me of a Harry Turtledove novel. Looks cool.

Nice–after seeing more scenes of green lantern on et that looked amazing–bet gl n cowboys are gonna be the big blockbusters next summer with potter part 2 of course–

I’m not huge on the poster…

But I am so STOKED for this movie! The only must-see that I know of from 2011 so far…

awesome..I hope chewbacca jumps out of one of those ships…hope this is better than Jonah Hex!!!

Star Trek: Enterprise, “North Star” – The Prequel?

Looks good!

Looks like another “Bob & Alex” classic! Really looking forward to this! Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig. Excellent!

40. CAPT KRUNCH – November 17, 2010

I suspect that a 90 minute video of a boil being lanced would be better the Jonah Hex….

Looks like fun.

Hm, I was waiting for Ford to say: I have a baaaaad feeling….

Trailer looks great, cant wait!

@ 12

Ha ha, Vultan. Yeah it might be a sequel to the “Frisco Kid” (1979) if Gene Wilder is in the cast. Is he?

Oh and speaking of aliens, the NEW GREEN LANTERN TRAILER IS OUT! Yahoo just posted it. Love those aliens! Tomar Re. Abin Sur. And of course Kilowog! Link below.

The plot looks amazingly similar to the recent ‘High Plains Invaders’ which starred James Marsters. Check it out on DVD

Daniel Craig’s wearing a Pip-Boy? :)

“…if Gene Wilder is in the cast. Is he?”

One would hope. :D

@ 49

Speaking of Gene Wilder, the press release describes the film as one “that crosses the classic Western with the alien-invasion movie in a blazingly original way:” BLAZING? Could there be a black sheriff? Does Daniel Craig wake up and see the Count Basie band playing “April in Paris?” Will there be cowboys sitting around the campfire eating beans?
