Star Trek Vet Stromberg Wins Design Academy Award + Photos Of Trek Celebs At Oscar Events

While the Oscars were not a big year for Star Trek, one Trek vet, designer Robert Stromberg, picked up an Academy Award. More details below, plus photos of Star Trek vets at Oscar events, including JJ Abrams, Zoe Saldana, William Shatner, and Whoopi Goldberg…plus George Takei with Oscar-winner Colin Firth.

Star Trek Designer Stromberg Wins Oscar

This year there was one Star Trek alumni who took home an Oscar at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. Robert Stromberg picked up the Academy Award for Best Art Director for his work on Alice In Wonderland, which he shared with Karen O’Hara. Stromberg worked as a matte artist on Star Trek: First Contact, the Star Trek: Voyager pilot episode "Caretaker", and the Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes "The Best of Both Worlds" and "A Matter of Time".

Stromberg picked up two Emmy Awards for his Star Trek work, in 1992 and 1995. Star Trek designer Mike Okuda, who shared a Star Trek nomination with Stromberg in 1991, sent out a "congrats" via Twitter last night to his former Trek cohort.

Everyone looks really good and like they had a great time-

This is not my area of expertise (fashon that is), and I think JJ and his wife look good together, but her shoes…. yuck.

It’s a woman thing, OK? LOL

Holy crap! How tall is the woman standing next to JJ???

@1: “This is not my area of expertise (fashon that is), and I think JJ and his wife look good together, but her shoes…. yuck.”

Shush boy. The mads are watching.

WELL DONE BRITAIN !!!

How does the Shat get all of the hot women. How did J.J get a Hot Woman. How did I get a Hot woman to agree to mary me. Yes. I do have a Hot Bride to be. Yes. It is True.

LOL Harry—-

#3 Jeyl, I am not a boy- and I am just not up to date with the fashions today. I guess I am more into the classic fashions. In other words, I didn’t mean it personally :D So no mods get mad at me…. or mads either one hehe

Congrats to you Commodore! You know you’ll have to post some pictures of the big day!

Does your hot bride happen to be Lt. Marlena Moreau?

@5

Aww. Congrats, Mike!

#5- Yes, Congrats Mike! That is the best news one can have.

Congrats, Mike. I’ve been married for 9 years with a hot chick myself. And I still don’t know what she saw in a nerd like me. It must be the Klingon in me…

I like the photo of Ben Cross. He really impressed me as Spock’s father. I hope he is in the sequel.

Lucky to have a hot woman married to you.

Unfortunately some of us are still single. Which at times can be a bit depressing.

He was good as Sarek, but I think Mark Lenard will always be Sarek to me.

I don’t know remember him from anywhere else so I can’t tell if he is a good actor or not, but for me, original Sarek is one of original crew that just can not be replaced.
He had a unique “wise ambassador aura” that none of other high ranking vulcans had, or vulcans in general now that I think about it. You could practically imagine him as a patrician in an old Roman Senate right next to real historical people.

Since there is no edit option, let me repeat that post, just in case somebody misunderstood.

I don’t know/remember Ben Cross from anywhere else but the abrams Trek, so I can’t tell if he is a good actor or not, but for me, original Sarek is another one of the original crew that just can not be replaced.

Also, try comparing abrams Nero with the first Romulan we get to meet in TOS, the commander ( Lenard ), and dare say they are the same species.
*Shakes her finger at J.J.

@5

Is she an Orion Slave girl?

Ben Cross for Romulan Commander role in Star Trek sequel.

Come on! You know you want to, Bob Orci. ;) :-}

16: Iva– watch Ben Cross in “Chariots of Fire”. The movie won best picture at the Oscars in 1981. He is a well known actor.

Oh my! Colin Firth with George Takei? Now there’s a photo I never expected.

Maybe Takei is up for King’s Speech 2: Drag Queen Speech?

Ben Cross plays Spock’s father, Sarek, in this new timeline. Sarek is still reasonably young here. Why would the producers turn him into a Romulan commander? Unfortunately, Mark Lenard cannot reprise his part as Sarek as he is deceased. Ben Cross played the part very well.

Ben Cross played the role of Sarek beautifully-

Mark Lenard played a Romulan Commander before Sarek. The poster was just suggesting–tongue in cheek–that Ben Cross play a Romulan Commander as a “nod” to TOS casting.

He (Ben Cross) could also play a Klingon Captain (Mark Leonard-TMP)!!

Colin Firth in Star Trek 2? maybe :D

I dout Colin Firth would star in Star Trek 2, as long as the St Trinians franchise is still alive.
