Star Trek fans may be lamenting the long wait between the 2009 Star Trek movie and its sequel, but Zachary Quinto actually thinks it is a good thing. If you are an adult and like to mix risqué performances with your nerd passions, then there is some good news for residents of NYC, Chicago, Milwaukee and Toronto. Summer is coming to an end and apparently that means it is the season for Star Trek Burlesque. There are four burlesque companies putting on Trek-themed shows: New York (tonight), Toronto (tomorrow), and Chicago (starting in September). See below for details [ADULT CONTENT WARNING].
Today is the birthday of Chris Pine. Star Trek’s new Captain Kirk is turned 31. All of us here at TrekMovie would like to wish the new Captain a Happy Birthday. Some Star Trek vets will be appearing on a couple of sci-fi shows over the next few days. Today, August 19th, is the 90th anniversary of the birth of Star Trek creator, and "Great Bird of the Galaxy," Gene Roddenberry. It also happens to be the birthday of Star Trek: TNG’s Jonathan Frakes. So today TrekMovie remembers The Bird, and wishes The Beard a happy birthday.

Anthon Yelchin has been keeping busy since appearing as Chekov in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. He voices "Clumsy" in the new Smurfs movie and stars in the vampire film Fright Night opening on Friday. In a new interview promoting the film, Yelchin says that he doesn’t know when he will be needed to return to the bridge of the USS Enterprise, but he is ready to go when called. He also talked about comparisons to Walter Koenig.
If you aren’t going to Dragon*Con and looking for something to do this Labor Day weekend, you can stay home and visit the 24th century as Syfy is once again holding a Star Trek: The Next Generation marathon. And this time they are looking to the fans to help pick the episodes. Details below.

Appearing at the Las Vegas Star Trek convention over the weekend, Star Trek’s Walter Koenig broke some news for another franchise: Babylon 5. Koenig says that B5 creator J. Michael Straczynski is currently in negotiations to develop more Babylon 5. Walter also compared working on B5 to Star Trek, details below. [UPDATE: Straczynski denial]
Purported Star Trek fan Conan O’Brien has been called out for how he does the Vulcan salute by a viewer and detail-oriented fan. In a segment from Conan last night, O’Brien brought in George Takei to help cover up his salute fail. Watch it below
Over the weekend Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Patrick Stewart attended Wizard World’s Chicago Comic Con and at the event he was asked to sort of officiate over a marriage proposal. Charles “Trip” Tucker III may have been killed in the series finale, but actor Connor Trinneer bristles at the suggestion that the cancelled Star Trek: Enterprise killed the Trek franchise. The actor also says that (unlike most fans) he really liked the finale. More from Connor below.

Star Trek’s William Shatner is about to drop his new record "Seeking Major Tom" where he collaborates with all sorts of rockers doing a number of sci-fi themed cover songs. Ten days ago Paramount began to shuffle their schedule around, officially moving GI Joe 2 to the summer 2012 slot occupied by the Star Trek sequel. And today they have made another move, setting a holiday 2012 date for the zombie movie World War Z. A new date for the Star Trek sequel is still pending.
Today the Syfy channel confirmed earlier reports (and reversed itself from a statement last week) and officially cancelled Eureka, which currently features Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Wil Wheaton in a recurring role. Comic Book artist Joe Corroney has revealed the second cover for Star Trek #2, the second entry in IDW’s new ongoing comic book series set in the new Star Trek movie universe. The comic hits stores in October. Check out the cool new image below.
Now that Paramount has officially delayed the Star Trek sequel fans are awaiting an announcement of a new date and if JJ Abrams will be directing.
