press release
Cineplex Beams William Shatner’s The Captains into Movie Theatres Across Canada
Star Trek original takes on his Captain peers and fellow actors in a revealing documentary that speaks to fandom of Trekkies
Star Trek fans, set your phasers to stun! William Shatner’s new documentary, The Captains, lands in participating movie theatres across Canada on Thursday, October 13 at 7 p.m. (local time) for a one-night only presentation. This special event, presented by Cineplex Entertainment’s Front Row Centre Events and Ballinran Entertainment, is the final frontier to see this highly anticipated documentary in theatres.
The Captains is a feature length documentary that "boldly goes where no man has gone before," giving viewers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at one of the most durable and profitable franchises in entertainment history, and the men and women who made the Star Trek brand an international phenomenon since 1966. The Captains is written and directed by William Shatner.
"Movie theatre seats across the country are the closest fans can get to the Captain’s chair on this voyage that looks at the iconic role of a Star Trek Captain," said Pat Marshall, Vice President, Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment. "Trekkies will not want to miss this one-night only event."
The Captains is produced by Canada’s Ballinran Entertainment and Le Big Boss Productions in association with Movie Central, a Corus Entertainment Company; EPIX; The Movie Network, an Astral Media Network; and Les Chaines Tele Astral – a division of Astral Broadcasting Group; with the participation of the Canada Media Fund, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Ontario Media Development Corporation Film and Television Tax Credit.
Tickets can be purchased at participating theatre box offices, through the Cineplex Mobile Apps and online at www.cineplex.com/events or our mobile site m.cineplex.com.

EPIX trailer for The Captains
I might actually check this out!
Yeah. Me too.
Ok Harry. Give us a full Harry Ballz Report.
3.
And what if I report back that the documentary is CRAPTACULAR?
Great. I’ll check it out.. :]
Is this worth it buying it on DVD? Or will it come to Indemand or some cable channel soon?
Wasn’t a bad doc. Very interesting especially the parts where the captains were talking about how working on the show effected their personal life…very moving. Avery brooks is still with the aliens…man that dude is still at the final frontier
4. Harry Ballz…
“And what if I report back that the documentary is CRAPTACULAR?”
Yet I would also like to see it… “a full Harry Ballz Report”… about The Captains…
:-) :-)
I hail from Guelph Ontario, so ill be going to the Galaxy to watch this. I heard last month it was coming and was crossing my fingers it would come to a theatre near me.
Woot … finally PEI gets something …
Dang……if I didn’t have to work, I’d go out to Langford to see this………I also don’t have Movie Central either. :-(
Commodore Mike+Dee
Okay, for you two I shall take a stab at thee…..er, I mean, The Captains! :>)
Cool, it’s playing an 8 minute drive from my house! Too bad I’m working that night.
I heard it comes out on DVD soon. Im going to buy it. I love trek Documentaries
And for England? Will we get to see this show on English TV in the near future?
15 – No, you will not. :)
Thanks Harry. I knew you would not let Erica. I mean us down.
16 – why is that then??
it comes out on dvd october 18th
“The Captains” should be named “William Shatner and some other people who talk to William Shatner about William Shatner” but that wasn’t catchy enough.
Should’ve been someone like Frakes and Shat getting no more than a 5 minute interview.
This is not really that bad, my wife and I saw this on the EPIX website. I wish I could have gone to the Hollywood showing with our friends but when you consider it was shown in a cemetary….
It has good insight to the stars and it makes you think about what they all went through to make ST TV shows. While us fans love the shows and the actors, it was not all fun & games for them.
Of course, I may be a bit bias for this film of Shatners, there is a seen of my wife and I at the 2010 Vegas convention.
I’m a fan of the flick even though it is a tad egocentric Shatner does talk to the other Captains about their own gigs. And what I do like aboot it is that it’s not a typical documentary and certainly not a typical Trek documentary. We’ve seen countess BTS features of actors talking very specifically and very seriously about Star Trek and the work they did. I actually like the more conversational, life-lessons vibe of the film. You want a specific doc about how these people think about what they did on episode XXY of series XXYZ I’m pretty sure you can find a bonus feature covering it.
Ahhh nuts! I live in Toronto, and just found out now. A shame they couldn’t have two shows tonight. :(
When comes this to europe?
Wow, let’s take some donations so that we can get some real first run movies up in Canada. What are they watching up there right now in Canadian mutliplexes: Rocky, Dances with Wolves? Let’s get our friends up north some legitimate recent movies to watch!
#17. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire…
hmmm… you are bad… But let me say that I decided my “persona” in the virtual world have a lot of humor… so… LOL….
:-) :-)
Anyone know if CAPTAINS is coming downunder?
Or do us Aussies just have to wait for the DVD?
Great documentary. If you don’t like Shatner, you mightn’t enjoy the whole thing, but I do recommend that you stick with it. In the first half hour, it’s laid on pretty thick, but there’s some great stuff in the last half. Couple of things I’d almost describe as being touching.
Have it in my EPIX queue now.
It may be a bit late to post this as this article is now 11 days old but I just watched this movie on Streaming Netflix. I agree with some of the other comments that it is a bit of a Bill Shatner centered vehicle. I cringed when he tried to explain what he was so distant from fans in the early days of Star Trek conventions. I flet as though he was mostly it was a bunch of hooey. But overall, it was well made and is certainly worth watching.
Just got it in the mail today, gunna watch it tonight!
