The Star Trek sequel starts shooting next month and the team is busy casting, but details on the film are still being kept under wraps. At a gala event last Thursday, the returning Star Trek stars Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and (new star) Alice Eve joined producer/director JJ Abrams at a charity event in Beverly Hills, where some revealed they still haven’t seen the sequel script. More details below, plus photos from the event.
Star Trek cast still hasn’t seen script
Last Thursday a number of Star Trek stars (returning and new) joined sequel producer/director JJ Abrams at the Children’s Defense Fund’s 21st Annual Beat The Odds Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel. E’s Marc Malkin spoke to some of the stars who admitted they had yet to see the script for the next Star Trek. Here is an excerpt from his article:
"I’m sure before we finish shooting, I’ll see one," John Cho laughed the other night at the Children’s Defense Fund-California’s Beat the Odds Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel. "Maybe we’ll get a clue tonight. I’d be curious to know whether I’m in it. That’d be the greatest gift bag of all time."
“That’s a good question,” Yelchin said when asked what fans should expect in the follow-up. "Your guess is good as mine."
E also talked to JJ Abrams who explained why he waited to confirm he would direct the sequel:
Abrams admitted to me that he was never obligated to direct the sequel. "I was always hoping to, but until I read the script it was hard to be able to say definitely," he said. "So it was great to read it and get that feeling that you hope to get when you read a script."

With an Eve, now all we need is an Adam.
I wonder who they sign up next? Greg Grunberg?
@Peter Loader : Scott Bakula, Bruce Greenwood
Eve looks HOT!. Peter weller is in the new Movie. Great Choice.
Wow…do Zachary Quinto’s shoes suck! I’ve seen old men wear those things!
Has anyone else noticed that John Cho has a mole on his forehead in about the same place as did George Takei when he played Sulu?? Weird huh?
Thin ties must be in…
I don’t think I have ever seen a bad photo of Zoe Saldana…
CORRECTION…the mole is not in quite the same place…but close enough.
Zachary has the serious look down to a science.
Awful ties and suit jackets that don’t button up properly. Why, oh why? UGH!
I don’t think Zach has been for the shaving and plucking yet…still time, I guess. When he does have it done, pics please, Anthony…:)
I don’t know why Chris Pine would not have been there for the Charity, but I do know that he was working that weekend (Dec. 3 and 4) on doing some last minute shoots for This Means War with Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chelsea Handler. There Chris was, all made up with a bruised and bloody face, because that was the scene(s) obviously demanded of his character. Chris was wearing a very nice outfit, gorgeous blue shirt and no tie – very classy. Go figure.
JJ Abrams with a Star Trek coloured tie.. where can I get one?
This story reminds me of the famous Gene Roddenberry quote after Star Trek: The Motion Picture was first green-lit:
“We have a starting date, but we don’t have a script…but what the hell, a lot of people have scripts that don’t have a starting date!”
I hope this next Trek movie is on the level of awesome for sequels that is Empire Strikes Back or The Dark Knight. I remember being promised by the writers for such awesomeness. They better deliver!
Only thing I’m wondering about this time around is how’s JJ going to crowbar the name Kelvin onto the screen. I mean they’re not really big on signage in space and in the future, are they?
Don’t they all look absolutely GREAT!!! Of course, I’m looking at Zach and Zoe the most, but the whole bunch is stunning. :-)
They do look great, but the modern suit leaves much to be desired. ‘Tis muy dweebie.
Breaking News!!

Yeah not cool. “I’m getting out while the getting is good.” says Del Toro. Not cool at all.
Oh, I don’t mind a little dweeb every now and again. It never hurt anyone. :-) Plus, Zach pulls it off so well. :-)
11. Keachick…
In fact Chris Pine was reshooting on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3 … the event was on Thursday… probably CP was preparing for the scenes that he had to do … were scenes of action …

@20: Yes, a little too well; but for reasons I can’t guess, I think he strives for the dweeb look. It must be”in” in other parts. He’s had a full career as a model. I suspect he knows what’s in, even if I don’t happen to agree that it suits him well:)
If you look at the picture of Tom Hardy and Chris Pine, Tom is holding his crotch and not looking so good. Neither of them are actually…:) In the trailer, there is a part where Tom’s character gets hit by accident with a paint ball in the crotch. I think this may be a scene following on from that incident.
Yes, that would explain, even more so, why Chris could not attend the charity function the night before.
@15: A detour through the Kelvin system? Rendezvous with the USS Kelvin-A? He’ll figure something out, it’s his thing.
This has got to be a cosmic joke — the guy who played the evil clone of PIcard against the guy who is playing the time-clone of Kirk. In a comedy about mistaken identity.
Somewhere in time, the Great Bird of the Galaxy must be chortling.
Zoe looks better than Alice here.
yeah, I said that.
26: Polly: Yeah, I agree with you. That Alice chick doesn’t look so good in the close-up. Zoe, though: wow!
And Zach looks good, too.
So…..no script yet?
Anyone want in on the action whether or not this actually starts shooting in January or not?
@ 11….you know, I think I could pass on the photos of ZQ plucking…..
How many times have we been told they know less than we do?!
@13 and 28 It didn’t say that there was no script yet, just that the actors haven’t *seen* the script yet. . . there *is* a difference. . .

23. Keachick …
CP was on the set of TMW on Monday… December 5… again…
