STAR TREK™ ONLINE SETS COURSE FOR EUROPE

Popular Sci-fi MMO Releases French and German Versions

(Amsterdam, Netherlands) March 29, 2012 — Perfect World (Europe) B.V., the European subsidiary of Perfect World Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: PWRD), and Cryptic Studios, Inc., an acclaimed developer of MMO games, along with CBS Consumer Products, have announced today the European launch of the free-to-play, massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), Star Trek Online.

With this European free-to-play launch, German and French players can now lead their crew on missions in their own language and also participate in events, in-game chats, competitions and episodic missions that will immerse them even more in the always expanding Star Trek universe.

As the first AAA quality MMO to feature space and ground combat, Star Trek Online has continued to grow in popularity. Over the past two years, the game has expanded with five seasons of content updates, delivered story-driven Feature Episode Series, and introduced new systems that allow for enhanced gameplay, such as spacewalk missions in zero-gravity and the new Duty Officer system. In addition, the recent conversion of Star Trek Online to a free-to-play model has opened its doors to anyone who wants to experience the game at no cost.

"The launch of Star Trek Online in Europe is the culmination of our efforts over the past several years to bring gamers the Star Trek universe on a truly massive scale," said Dan Stahl, Executive Producer for Star Trek Online. "We’d like to share this accomplishment with our community of players that have given their ongoing support to help us create an innovative game that captures Star Trek’s essence and we are happy to offer a localized experience for our French and German-speaking players. Our team is looking forward to sharing this experience with players in Europe and across the world."

Good for the rest of Planet Earth

how has STO been doing now that it is free. i played on and off a bout a year ago. i enjoyed it but to subscribe monthly i didnt wanna commit paying if I dont know just how often i’d play

It’s definitely worth a second look they have added a lot since you were last there and it can be played completely for free or you can buy some shinny things if it’s a must have through the C-store

This is truly a great game now. I was subscribed for almost 150 days before, and have just come back, and it was elevated from Sci Fi MMO to the full Star Trek experience. Diplomacy missions, investigations, skirmishes and cool characters, I am having a great time

I’ve always been an advocate for this game. While there are always going to be things that bother me, and this is true even for Trek TV/Movies, Cryptic has made great strides with this title. Anyone with even a slight interest in gaming will have fun.

One of the better things is that the episodic stories they had now are used as leveling tools so you get nice story while you level instead of just grinding the levels.

Schön :)

Star Trek 12 is based on the episode ‘ City On The Edge Of Forever’ and the part being played by Benedict Cumberbatch is that of the evil Col. Greene.

Willkommen!

How about a Mac version of STO? I will wait for that.

When I tried to sign up for this game on the website,

I saw nothing! Nothing!

Fued going on between to A-List Trek actors in the sequel?

Oh my, I just love and adore this game!

Hey folks, rumor has it that the German fans have already taken over the French fans portion of Trek space, and the French fans are now asking for us American and British fans to bail them out!

Aber ja!

D’aller audacieusement où personne n’a jamais allé encore!

…. je pense. ;)

grrr. Could never get it to accept a character from me, and it wouldn’t tell me why. Gave up.
Boo.

Aurore, I am quite unsure if this is not all just play by everyone involved, but I think you might have misinterpreted Deiter`s, Gastgeber der Kettenräder and Zorba´s posts #20/22(/33) …

To me at least, these remarks clearly represent what I would call a rather clumsy attempt by a/some obvious non-native speaker(s) to recreate/satirize(?) the unfortunately often hostile atmosphere which has developed lately between certain segments of Greek and German public/published opinion in the aftermath of the EU´s political and economic measures to contain the currency crisis.

#31 Silvereyes

Nah, it’s me. I was playing the part of the dumb American who couldn’t understand what was being said. I’ll put my fanny pack and socks with sandals away.

#32 Mark

I want to know too. Sad, but I do love the dish. (gossip, that is)

As a German, I think this will game will be an adventure in quality and good taste!

Hast du etwas Zeit für mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Denkst du vielleicht g’rad an mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Und dass so was von so was kommt

________

Hence my resorting to brackets when referring to Zorba and Deiter in post 24. You’ll also notice my use of the French equivalent for “gentlemen” in said post.

I wasn’t being serious in 23. Moreover, as often…….I felt….. like …ahem……singing…

On these boards, I am familiar, with non-native speakers trying to satirize and/or recreate the hostile atmosphere between certain segments of Star Trek and Star Wars fandom, for instance.

It all happened before, as it were. For me Hermioni, it was déjà vu…

:)

P.S.: Hermioni, I do not speak German nor do I speak Greek.
However, my translator is fluent in both languages,as well as many others evidently. Thus, it had allowed me to come to the same conclusions as you did, earlier in the day.

I see, I see!
So, you WERE/are indeed playing, and quite elegantly, too, if I might say so. :-) .

@40

Grazie mille! ( I did this alone; I speak 5 words of Italian. Alright, maybe 9 ).

I was posting 39 while you were sending 40 apparently!

:))

So when i log on i wont see (or have to Ignore) foreign chat?

*Sings* You gotta Keep ’em Separated! Heeeeeeya! Don’t pay no mi….

I only get to play ever so often, but I like it enough to dual boot my Mac with Windows 7 so I can play it. They need to make it OSX compatible.

I too am a Mac user but have Windows on a partitioned drive, so when free-to-play started I was psyched to check it out with an eye on subscribing. I played for about a month but the server was down so often that it became a drag and I couldn’t see myself spending money for so much downtime.

Really liked a lot of the aspects but in the end the non-storyline space and planet assignments were too similar as far as graphics and playability. The wide variety of duty officer missions would be fantastic if they were actually playable as opposed to ‘select officer(s), close window, come back and check results. The storyline missions were great but too few.

The space battles reminded me of an old favorite game, Escape Velocity (Mac only when I was playing it, don’t know if it’s still around. Hmmm….)

I plan on checking back at some point but the few weeks I spent with it was enough for now.

Gunter glieben glauchen globen.
