Watch: Star Trek Sequel Covered On Local News In Bay Area

As we have been reporting, the Star Trek sequel has been filming in Northern California and today a Bay Area local news channel did a report on the shoot, including talking to people who have spotted some of the Trek stars around the town. Watch the report below, but there are minor spoilers.

Star Trek production makes the local news

The CBS affiliate in San Francisco did a segment on how the Star Trek sequel has been shooting at Lawrence Livermore Labs and how some of the stars have been spotted around the area, including the local hooters.

It’s hard to believe that shooting has wrapped already, seems like it just started yesterday.

Was that Chili-KHAN-Carne in that omelette?

I like how they referred to Cumberbatch as a “cast member” haha. They do not know his talent.

Another reason why Trek won’t open like The Avengers. Paraphrasing the cafe manager, no one really knew who these guys are. Chris Pine is no Robert Downey, Jr.

What’s Robert Downey without that Iron suit? I know I know!

Cool story! Close Encounters of the Hollywood Kind…

Simon Pegg; love his ‘omelette tweets.’ The whole story sounds like a deleted scene from Simon Pegg’s own “Paul.” ;-)

~LOL! ;-D

ptown in the house! yee!

Well that’s cool that Simon Pegg gave that little place some free press. Wish I was still living in the Bay Area, might of gone to check things out.

4. Most movies don’t open like the Avengers, known cast or not.

I just want a good movie.

What’s with the Avengers comparisons? Yeah that movie was bomb but this is trekmovie.com not marveltheavengersmovie.com. To compare the two doesn’t make sense. You got 3 Hulk moives, 2 (+1 future) Iron Man movies, Captain America, Thor AND Avengers? All these movie coming out within a year or months of each other? Please.

#9 Your comment pretty much sums it up. There aren’t many movies out there that open as big as the Avengers anyway…not even some of the Marvel movies that led up to the Avengers opened that big.

As long as we get a good product out of this Trek movie then I’m a happy girl.

CBS affiliate? More like a CBS O&O (owned and operated). KPIX CBS 5 and “Star Trek” are both owned by CBS.

As a response to Phil at #4.

The thing that Avengers had going for them was the advertising. After every Marvel (for the avengers) movie there’s a clip that acts as a mini spoiler that leads to the next movie. When they’re spitting out Marvel movies left and right the impression of those spoilers stay in the mind. Our last trek movie came out in 2009. For some that’s too long to remember someone.

But to be honest there are some actors in the Avengers that aren’t well known either, as least state side. Besides War Horse and Thor, in what do you remember seeing Tom Hiddleston in? or even Chris Hemsworth (besides Thor and ST2009)? What about Jeremy Renner?

If they advertise Trek just right, then they can grab the masses’ attention. There’s already a bubble of curiosity as it is. It’s unusual for a sequel to come out this late after the first movie. And with all this “hush hush” secrecy around it too? It all comes down to advertising.

Why are there less comments on here all of a sudden?

What’s driving the comparisons is a bit of Avengers envy – we would all like to see a Trek movie with that large of a box office. Comparing the two does not make sense because Trek won’t have that kind of box office.

Also, I’m thinking that with Trek, their biggest advertising weapon will be Benedict Cumberbatch. Most of the controversy around this new movie involves him in some way or another.

We know Kirk, Spock and the rest. What’s got everyone in an uproar is the possible (probable) character that Benedict will play. Clips or trailers will have to feature him because everyone will want to know once and for all. Now what they could do is: show him in a trailer but not still not announce who he is so that you will definitely have to see the movie to know for sure.

I did not reflect any “minor spoilers” in this story???

…That California Omelette did look good…

I agree Aurore. The California Omelette makes me hungry. Okay, if I’m in Pleasaton, California I will check out Dean’s Cafe. Eat at Dean’s. The Breakfast of Starfleet.

Why does everyone still think Khan is the villain? They’ve already announced that it’s not. It won’t be Gary Mitchell, either, ’cause they already told that story in the tie-in comics, I think.

Not sure where the minor spoiler was, unless it’s going to upset Mongo that Pegg likes his omelettes

Hey Phil chris pine will be much bigger the robert downey jr

These guys are all very young still, fresh faced and only just starting out on the road left for them by the likes of Downey Jr et al.

Could the Star Trek sequel open as big as The Avengers? Who knows! The first movie is STILL (3 years on) held in high regard, with people buying it, renting it or watching it on TV, people could be bought into the next movie.

Mongo like omelettes too. Mongo not mad. Mongo not see any spoiler. Unless Dean leave egg out of fridge too long.

Mongo wish they show a teaser or something. Last movie have teaser release before film finish. That seem to work out OK for movie.

Youtube vid from a family who ran into Pine, Yelchin, Pegg and Saldana at their hotel in Pleasanton. Note: teenage girl freakout in progress…

Ummm… did I miss something? I watched the report twice and there wasn’t any kind of spoiler in there.

i consider the mention of Lawrence Livermore Labs and filming inside the NIF to be a minor spoiler.

@26 Anthony Pascale

Ahhh… okay. Thanks for the clarification, Anthony! Keep up the great work here! Love the site.

@24 That was cool. Good for her. Hopefully she’ll see the next Star Trek movie.

@21. Maybe in 10 years…..

@ 24

AJ, that was sweet. See Star Trek has young fans too. Take that Twilight!

@ 19

Mr. Anonymous says

“Why does everyone still think Khan is the villain? They’ve already announced that it’s not.”

Oh, you guys are trying to yank my chain. Want to take this MJ?

@ 23

Mongo says,

“Mongo like omelettes too. Mongo not mad. Mongo not see any spoiler. Unless Dean leave egg out of fridge too long.”

Ha. ha. Hey Mongo! How’s Sheriff Bart doing?

Star Trek Phase II films in an old car dealership. Star Trek Continues and Farragut now film in an aircraft hangar. Star Trek: The 8mm Motion Picture filmed in a former ROTC rifle range and a large band room. Location shooting as a spoiler is an interesting concept. For example in 2009, that Star Trek filmed near Vasquez Rocks again… that could have been about 7 different TOS planets!!
.
The funny thing is that there must have been a lot more sneakily done location shooting than we all realize!! JJ’s good with that Undercover work. Undercovers not so much, but Undercover, yep.

Mongo say hi!

Mongo say you should ask Alex Karras mans.

This is a completely random guess, but the NIF would make a better engineering room than a Budweiser plant.

#24 – That was funny and cute.
I’m 46 years old and I’d probably act the same. But I’m a guy. So that wouldn’t be weird at all.
