Star Trek TNG HD Screenings Theater List Announced + Amazon Lowers Blu-ray Pre-Order Price

Just don’t go expecting to see it in the high image quality that Blu-ray will deliver. This is a Fathom event. They broadcast through the advertising projector – not the real feature projector.

Guess it’s gonna have to be Bittorrent to the rest of the world, as usual. Star Trek is a Homo Sapiens-only club. And that meaning “white-occasionally-black-protestant-american-straight-occasionally-gay-dollar-filled-wallets-people.”

Why is Star Trek always so HUGELY over priced?

Cool not it’s only 80 bucks! Only another 30 bucks to drop down before I consider buying it!

$80 is far too expensive and Star Trek dvd’s are overpriced in general. Not buying.

….they drop it another $40, I’ll still wait until it drops another $20.

If it were a screening of “Best of Both Worlds” 1 and 2, I’d be tempted. Or even “Yesterday’s Enterprise” with perhaps “Inner Light.”

But to pay money to see pristine versions of two only slightly-better-than-average first season episodes? I’m afraid not. I can’t imagine paying evening rates and getting good seats just to hear “Shut up, Wesley.” That horrible first season dialogue was bad enough the first time (I don’t care if it IS in 7.1 surround this time…).

Game of Thrones Blu-ray is currently on Amazon.com for $45…and it’s only 10 episodes per season. I don’t think $80 for 26-ish episodes is overpriced at all, especially given all the work needed to get it in HD; Game of Thrones is already shot on HD cameras, for example.

Just a thought, but does anyone think this is Paramount’s subtle way to to gauging interest in another Next-Gen film?

Perhaps they realize the new cast is going to start costing a LOT of money for a third film, and maybe bringing the Next-Gen cast back, for less, could still turn a profit for them?

Why release this in so many places, even just one night, without a bigger reason in mind?

As much as I feel that the first season of TNG has its charms, I honestly feel that they couldn’t have picked two “worse” episodes to screen.

IMHO, “Heart of Glory,” and “Symbiosis” would have been a much better choice.

If I were to have my two cents on which episodes they could’ve picked to show off season one’s Blu Ray potential?

It would’ve been “11001010” (or whatever the hell it was called); those spacedock scenes would be glorious in high-definition! Some nice music cues in there as well. The Binars were pretty interesting, too. And in the best tradition of ST, they were not evil ‘bad guys’ at all but simply misunderstood aliens (like the Horta in TOS).

And “Conspiracy”; this one still freaks me out. Despite the dated stop motion creature effects, this was one of the eeriest, creepiest ST-TNGs ever (I believe it was actually banned in some foreign markets for awhile). I still think it deserved a proper sequel (as the ending seemed to imply…).

Lets not forget that the episode selection was limited by the fact that this is the season 1 blu-ray release. I would love to see Best of Both Worlds I & II, or The Inner Light, but we will have to wait around til season 3/4 and season 5 are released to get a shot at those on the big screen.

And that won’t happen unless people show up en masse for these crappy first season episodes, to justify a second, then a third, etc attempt

The picture of her is from season 6 or so! But, they should have chosen better episodes! ! ! 110100101 was superior or they could have shown Encounter at Farpoint. My question is, why didnt they chose Code of Honor! LOLOL!

I picked “Symbiosis” because despite Tasha’s Nancy Regan “just say no” speech, at least it had Merrit Butrick and Justin Scott (both from Star Trek II) in it.

I wish they would show those episodes in a uk cinema why always the us?

@38. They are not using 1080p blu-ray in the theatre version. This will be the full 4K scan of the original film.
