Star Trek Online Launches Season 7 ‘New Romulus’ – Watch New Trailer

The massive multiplayer online game Star Trek Online launched a new update today. Season 7 of STO is titled "New Romulus" so you can guess what the focus of the new content is. See below for more details and to watch the new trailer.

Star Trek Online Season 7 Goes Live – With Romulans!

Star Trek Online has been updated to Season 7 titled "New Romulus," with the biggest new feature being (you guessed) Romulans!  Here is the trailer…

The official blurb for the season update explains the new mission content:

A group of Romulans and Remans have banded together to create a new homeworld for their people — and they need your help! Located in the new Tau Dewa Sector Block, New Romulus offers captains on both sides of the conflict the chance to aid the Romulan leader D’Tan as he locates a new homeworld and begins the process of building a capital city.

The new persistent Romulan zone is available for play with both Federation and Klingon captains.

In addition to the Romulan content, there is also a new "Reputation System," improvements to the user interface, new fleet actions and events and a lot more. Visit THIS PAGE to learn all about what’s new for Season 7. And for more details, check out the RELEASE NOTES and SCREENSHOTS.

Remember that Star Trek Online is now Free To Play so it won’t cost you anything to try it out. For more check out www.StarTrekOnline.com.

Sounds interesting story-wise, but I’m not sure I wanna go back to the game. While it had a lot of neat ideas it felt like a chore to play – too clunky.

Did…did I just see V’ger? At 2:10?

@2: Yes, you did see a V’Ger like craft. It’s normally a boss during the Borg Red Alert Sector Event. It’s really tough to destroy, and has the energy weapon from TMP.

The game has been very slow since this update.

I really enjoy playing Trek online, great game, and some very exciting updates.

I had been trying to play this game, but the truth is, I’m just not a gamer. I’d rather see new Prime Universe Star Trek shows and films then play a game.

I enjoy the game, but I would like to see some of the game geared towards exploration without always having to shoot something. I like to shoot things, but I also like to explore. Start Trek began with exploring, and there was lots of out thinking the mission, or finding something new and amazing. I do enjoy the game, but think it needs to acknowledge what Star Trek is.

I thought this game was now free? I saw a withdrawal from my checking account a few months back, long after I thought this game was now free to play.

Unless I have to re-register for it to be free.

Not that I’m really playing this anymore. I tried it for awhile, but my laptop is old and not very up to date and therefore the graphics were pretty poor.

@8 the game is f2p however if you were subscribed before you still are. If you go to the site and log in, you can then cancel your gold member status and go to silver which is free.

Weekend without a single player logged! Players on strike!

If your are asking why?

QUOTE=daxiii23-well lets stay with the reassignment for a moment, lets say i have all white doffs and i want to change into one purple, costs as follows:
white to green:
5 whites + 500 dil = 1 green
green to blue
5 greens + 2500 dill = 1 blue
blue to purple
5 blues + 5000 dill = 1 purple

5×5000 + 5x(2500) + 25x(500) = 50k dil

so one purple BOFF costing now 50k dilithium and 25 white boffs???
and at the same time reduce the amount of dil u can get drastically

QUOTE=scoustar-I tried some Fleet Actions this morning to try and re-motivate myself to play. After being logged out of the Action 14 times during the course of play I gave up. Whilst I’m sure today’s server maintenance is designed to repair this, I’m also certain that Fleet Actions are still as dull and pointless as before…

“ooh look, that Tuatara Cruiser is dropping warp plasma, nice. Shame there’s not an enemy within 9km of it really”

I agree wholly with Cryptic’s idea to entice players to play alternate content. But I think it’s disgraceful to destroy enjoyable end game content (guess what you *******, people played STF’s for enjoyment as well as dil farming, numbers don’t tell you that I suppose ) in order to enforce play in BAD content.

Yes, the Fleet Actions are BAD BAD BAD content, that’s why no one played them, except for a few pointless Fleet Marks. Adding the rewards was a good idea. Taking them out of STF’s was stupid beyond words, unless we all accept that they did it purely and entirely and deliberately out of greed.

Well done Cryptic, you’ve proven that inbreeding really does make you dumb.

rodentmaster-**** no!

It’s an insult to say they listen but then change one of the LEAST of the problems they just introduced. Adding dilithium back to STFs is a small portion of the problems they’ve just added. THe entire game is a dil sink now. That’s the problem. DOFFs costing THOUSANDS of dil per day is the problem.

The result is still a net loss of thousands of dil per day as compared to season6.

**** NO, I’m not happy with thier “compromise” (which can barely even be called that).

I would keel for it to be like Bridge Commander!!!!

Nice trailer!!

Also, the Vesta class starship from Star Trek: Destiny and 2 other variants are now available for 5000 ZEN (all of them) and 2500 ZEN (seperate)

Everyone who has ever played a PC game should try this game. You don’t even have to interact with other players at all if you don’t want to – just set the privacy and social settings accordingly. There is plenty of content for the single player, especially now with the huge New Romulus to explore. Of course there are lots of other things to do by teaming with other players. It’s a great game for any trekker and you don’t even have to pay.

Am I alone in thinking that for an MMO game, it’s not very _M_? When I play, I see other players, but we don’t interact that much. Occasionally we all join in the same battle, but that’s about it. I’m used to more personal interaction. Am I missing something?

Looks fun, but I must resist getting drawn into any more Trek pursuits beyond current time-squandering interest.

Haven’t logged onto this in a year, but if it has diplomatic missions now, I might have to reconsider.

I am a member but can’t play Season 7- they released the update with a bug which crashes the game on certain graphics cards. he devs knew about it when it was on the Tribble Test Server but they still released it. Charming.

After waiting for their customer support to change my email address for 3 days I finally got into the game to see season 7 for myself.

To say I was disappointed is a massive understatement. I logged in to see that the duty officer recruitment missions have changed. It now costs 1000 dilithium to get the basic duty officer pack which used to be free. And it takes longer to finish. And if you want to upgrade your current ones into better ones like blues and purples the dilithium cost involved has increased.

Next there is a reputation system which in every way is just like a starbase, every toon has one of its own. I found a box in my inventory which is a compensation for the old items I had EARNED in previous STF’s. Guess what I now have to do just to get them back. Advance to tier 3 of this crap. And even with the resources necessary, its time-gated.

Great, thanks.

As soon as I realised this, I said a quick goodbye to my fleet mates, closed the game and uninstalled it.

I don’t want my spare time taken up with a second job thankyou very much.

My advice to anyone contemplating STO post season 7:

Its fine until the endgame content, if you are a work-a-holic then this game is perfect for you.

Did you ever run an STF? Those rely on 5 players cooperating and coordinating efforts. Also, you might try joining a fleet. Or simply joining in zone chat at DS9, Earth, New Romulus, etc.

To be fair, they were warning people for the last month to either cash in their EDCs/Borg Salvage or expect them to be converted to the new system. Personally, I like this new reputation system. It’s much better than the completely random drops where you could run 100 STFs and still not get the gear you wanted, while someone else could pop it and get it in one go.

@10 – I did not understand a single word of your post, and I’m a STO player!

Honestly, I’m this close to giving up on the game. It’s confusing, has about a dozen different currencies now (as far as I can tell), and all the “new content” just seems like a bunch of farming missions.

And the culture of the multiplayer missions has become hostile. The PvP missions are dominated by hardcore power-gamers, and the PvE missions have become beds of prize-farmers who get agro if you don’t know the unspoken pecking order. (I got yelled at for shooting at the wrong Borg.)

I really used to love this game… Now it seems like a mess. Sorry. :(

@8

Wait, you didn’t bother to see what the payment was for? Were you playing it at the time? I wish I had some jingle to ignore payments on my bank account/credit card.
