Oh My!

Fifty Shades of Takei. Ha, ha, ha. By the way AJ posted this on Chat. Takei was just in a funny skit on Conan’s show. Takei is such a good sport. God bless him.

Takei got into this because Gilbert Godfried read part of that book on YouTube…and to complete the circle, here it is: (NSFW!!!!)

Takei’s face when reading that final word was awesome. He looked so disappointed.

I’m also finally sure how to pronounce his name.

Wouldn’t he have to get the author’s permission to do this?

After all, it’s her intellectual property (such as it is), not his.

@5 He doesn’t read the whole book, just really short excerpts. I guess that falls under fair use or whatever it’s called.

@ 5 6

Diginon is correct. Fair use also allows for parody. That being said, the author might have legal action for copyright infringement. Takei would raise “fair use” and its use in parody. I doubt she would. After all it’s more publicity for the book.

Oh my. My my my my.

Nice guy doing great things for minorities and stuff. Live long and prosper, George!

Does anyone know where “oh my” came from? I’ve seen him doing it as far back as futurama’s “Where no fan has gone before” episode. I have to imagine he did something and said it and it made everyone laugh and now its his catch phrase or something.

I laughed out loud!

The Shat should do readings of it and see which video gets more views!

For a guy who supposedly hates Shat so much, he sure is wiling to pretty much copy all oft the Shat’s routines to try to keep himself relevant in the eyes of the public. He’s not fooling me though.

@11 He did it a few times on the show, and in Star Trek VI

I just ate, so maybe later.

Favorite surviving Trek actor! Too bad his book is only available for Kindle and Nook, as I have neither. So I’d need a…erm…hard copy. No pun intended. No really.

Oh My! It’s even better coming from HIM.

GOOD GOD!

Who would even want to read “Fifty Shades Of Grey” anyway? More like “Filthy Shades of Grey”. WHAT CRAP!!!

And I agree with MJ. George Takei is copying Shatner’s schtick, and doing it poorly.

Takei’s reading of the excerpt made me cringe because he’s trying hard.

William Shatner, on the other hand, has more natural comedic talent and would have left me in stitches. :-)

Oh my, that was hilarious! Thanks for the laughs, George… ;-)

I don’t think you have to choose sides just to prove how cool you are. I appreciate comedy, no matter where it comes from, as long as it makes me laugh. And this made me laugh. :-)

@13

Give the guy a break, he and his family were imprisoned in this country simply because they were Japanese Americans.

I think he’s earned the right to ‘copy’ Shatner in order to stay revelant and make money, the American way.

Ever think maybe ju st maybe George is spoofing shatner’ s past reading sessions? George is very smart us know…..

@21 I doubt it.

@20. Sorry, although I am disgusted that George’s family was treated that way, there is no causal relationship between my opinion of his latest bad acting job and what happenned to his family.

Who would even want to read “Fifty Shades Of Grey” anyway? More like “Filthy Shades of Grey”

Yep, that’s exactly why people read the thing.

I wonder if he’s the first Trek actor to publically say clitoris? Unless Roger C. Carmel did a very, very early version of the Vagina Monologues.

Well…he has a sense of humor though
I question his need or desire to read
such material at his age. More like…
Oh Brother….and Please spare me – us all.

I remember meeting him in 1986, around the time “Voyage Home” was released. It was the only Star Trek convention I ever attended and I got a signed autograph. It was at the Renaissance Center in Detroit Michigan. Fun day for sure.

ROFL! Haven’t read the book, and glad now!

#10 George’s signature phrase was something he blurted out in response to blistering criticism from a caller on the Howard Stern show 20 years ago. The caller was defending Shatner. Following that appearance, the Stern show used that sound drop frequently to get a laugh in various situations. George then picked up on it and started using more often and more sloooooowly, notably as a punchline in his appearance on Third Rock from the Sun. Shatner being Shatner, he managed to steal George’s lines one last time by misappropriating the phrase to become the last words of James T Kirk, which drew unintentional laughs from many in the audience.

And if you were old enough, you’d know that BOTH men are doing an old comedy routine that dates back to Steve Allen. No one performer has a lock on funny literature readings.

# 17 RDR

About half the planet, apparently; and at least all the women I know.
You’re not married, I take it? ;-)

# 13 MJ

Shatner didn’t invent funny book readings.

Absolutely hysterical!!! God, I love George!

Thank you, George. I’ve been waiting for that for months. ;)

When the heck did George become so funny!
