TrekInk: Star Trek Comics Summer 2014 Preview – NewTrek Meets Q & More

Summer 2014 is shaping up to be a fine time for Star Trek comics from IDW Publishing and elsewhere. In addition to Harlan Ellison’s City on the Edge of Forever five-part adaptation, the monthly Star Trek series will begin a six-issue story arc featuring Q, the new crew, time travel, and some niners. We’ll also see another John Byrne photocomic and a one-shot special issue featuring the doctors. No, not the Doctors, the other ones, the Starfleet doctors. But what about the Doctor?

Woah, the Q Gambit sounds quite exciting. Our first look at the TNG-era of the altered timeline!

Lots to look forward to. Now, if I can get my local comic store to stock it…

Ooooh,a friend of mine has written for that book exploring Trek comics! Guess I have to get that one, lol. I buy most the comics already and enjoy them immensely.

J-R!

That doctors one makes me wish Shatner would do a ‘The Doctors’ documentary to go with ‘The Captains’.

Excellent job as always, Mark. (Disclaimer: I have an essay in this book as well.) Any idea what “Core” and “Cry Vengeance” are? The first two NEW VISIONS issues are called “The Mirror, Cracked” and “Time’s Echo,” so those titles surprised me. I may have to update my spreadsheet!

I thought IDW lost the Doctor Who rights. The Q story looks cool though. I wonder if Q, being omniscient, remembers the original timeline.

I’d love to see more Trek from my favorite Trek creators, like Peter David, Gordon Purcell and Jerome Moore. Any chance of IDW talking those guys into some new stories?

7-Thanks. I guess I should have looked at the only writing on that cover.

Huh, Q Gambit Cover 3 has the normal Defiant design, I’m surprised they didn’t redesign it.

Um, why isn’t the Q story being used for the next film? Based off what I’ve read in the small tid-bits that looks like EXACTLY what they should be doing for 3!

@10. I caught that too… probably didn’t have a chance to redesign anything cause of licensing. Would have been cool to see an alternate variant.

I Love Star Trek & Lost in Space

Nobody knows the story line of the next movie so we have no way of knowing if Q is going to be in the next film or not.

“Star Trek: Harlan Ellison®’s City on the Edge of Forever” & “New Visions” are the “Fan Videos” of Comics!

The covers on some of these alone are enough to get the mind working. Q? DS9/TOS crossover? Yes, please! Now, is this an Alternate Universe DS9 or what?

Sorry, in my opinion Q makes for a nice occasional television guest star, but in a theatre movie, I think you need a better adversary. Though, it’d be great to see a John de Lancie cameo as a bystander, saying something like, “Oh, don’t mind me, I’m just here to watch!” *LOL*

Q in the JJ-verse! Ahhhh!!

Although, since this is Q and alternate universes and all, I would assume that is an alternate DS9/TNG JJ-verse future and not what would “really” happen in the TNG/DS9 jj-verse future era.

so many titles great well maybe not with all the marvel titles i already get lots of cash going out
i have brought the first issue of forever and like it however i am glad they changed it for the tv as well its not star trek, the drug up crew member the drug dealer now this would of worked to some degree on b5 which i do love

flesh and bone
looking forward to this comic seeing so many doctors together

Could be. Notice that Sisko, Kira, and Worf don’t appear to be wearing Starfleet Uniforms. Or a Bajoran Militia uniform, in Kira’s case.
