Report: Shatner and Nimoy Scene Written For Next Star Trek Movie?

shatnernimoy

There is a new report out today about the next Star Trek movie having a scene with Kirk and Spock – but not for Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, but the original actors to inhabit those roles. More info below.

Shatner and Nimoy in next Star Trek?

Bad Ass Digest’s Devin Faraci is reporting that he has “learned” that "Star Trek 3 includes a scene that reteams Shatner and Nimoy onscreen as Kirk and Spock." While this isn’t confirmed, we do know that there was a scene written for Shatner (as Kirk) for the 2009 Star Trek movie, but that scene was never part of the script and was never even pitched to Shatner. (You can read that scene HERE). And, of course Nimoy did appear in both of JJ Abrams’ Star Trek films.

Shatner and Nimoy have not appeared together as Kirk and Spock on screen since 1991’s Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Shatner appeared as Captain Kirk (but without Nimoy) in the next Trek film (Generations) which featured the death of Kirk (in the prime timeline). Nimoy’s Spock lived on and appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and in the 2009 Star Trek film he entered a black hole in the prime timeline and exited in the new alternate movie timeline. Nimoy returned again for Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013, establishing that ‘Spock Prime’ remained in the new movie alternative universe.

YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

omg! LET THIS BE TRUE

I hope this is true.

It is the 50th anniversary……so if they are going to do this there will never be a better time!

To be honest, I could not care less if it is shoehorned in….it is the 50th anniversary!

Approved!

I hope this is true. I wonder if they would be playing Kirk and Spock from the original timeline, or older versions of Pine and Quinto.

Of course it would be cool to see Kirk and Spock together again!

Hey Bob Orci. You can cleafr this up buy comeing on here and telling us.
Please let this be True.

YES YES YES! I unabashedly want them both in this next one. I’m a TREKKIE DAMMIT and Original Trek is the best Trek. I don’t care if it’s a Flashback or a dream or anything, as long as Shatner and Nimoy are on board I’m there. I’d be there anyway.

let’s face it, Nimoy is getting pretty up there and his health isn’t the best from what I understand. I hope that a few years from now we’re not regretting that they DIDN’T do a one last scene together.

I’m also unabashedly enamored of the NuTrek too. I love Pine and Quinto – so take that for what it’s worth as well. For that matter, I LOVED Into Darkness.

Dear god, no. A thousand times, no….

Would love to see all 4 on the screen at the same time. Kirk and Spock Prime and the new Kirk and Spock.
Come on Orci you have the power to do this. Use ut and make us all Happy!!!!

@4 Legate Damar

I wonder if they would be playing Kirk and Spock from the original timeline, or older versions of Pine and Quinto.

Good question. Hopefully, he’s from the original timeline.. sent back to refit the Enterprise back to the way it’s supposed to look, and to break-up Spock & Uhura.

Bob Orci. You have the Power. You can do this good thing for all Star Trek Fans.

Title of next Star Trek movie revealed.. “Star Trek: Days of Future Past”

Star Trek 3: So Very Tired.

I will always love Shat and Nimoy. I just think it is time for the new cast to really spread their wings.

The old timers’ legacy is secure. Let the new cast have their time. They are a good cast, so let them be.

Excellent News.

#13; wasn’t that Star Trek 12?

No, that was Wrath of Khan 2.0

If true, so much for the new cast standing on their own. As much as I like Shatner’s Kirk, I’d rather see him in a TV special or TV movie of some kind celebrating the big 50th.

I’m thinking the success of X-Men: Days of Future Past has something to do with this. New and old versions meeting.

#13; wasn’t that Star Trek 12?

No, I believe that one was “Star Trek: The Repeat of Khan”

On paper, it sounds good. In reality, this will probably be silly. Do we remember when Captain Kirk appeared on the Oscars a few years ago? This could make the film a parody, and we already got that with the final act of Into Darkness.

Honestly, I’ll believe it when I see it – that goes for this news bit, the film “returning more towards the original series” and exploring deep space. This is from the same people who said “it’s not Khan” for Star Trek Into Darkness… I’m honestly not at all excited for Trek 3 because most of these reports will probably turn out to be false or far stretches of what was reported.

Sorry, but this is just some idiot blogger brain farting on his keyboard – overlooking one giant problem, that old Spock’s Kirk IS ALREADY DEAD!!!! For Christ sake, writing a whole story about a role for Kirk, with the one little caveat that the story HASN’T BEEN CONFIRMED….means it’s all speculation.

Nothing to see here, folks…move along.

Want to reiterate my previous comment in another article.

The 50th anniversary demands a reprisal of not only Shatner and Nimoy but Takei Koenig and Nichols as well. Bob there will never be a better time.

The only way I want to see this: Prime Spock decides to return to his timeline using some sort of technobabble conceit. He returns and is surprised to find that Kirk Prime is alive. We don’t need to know how. Prime Kirk and Spock discuss the other timeline and reminisce about their glory days, then board a civilian ship, SS Enterprise, and both agree to head back “out there, that a way.”

Not sure what to think, it is the 50th anniversary, so I understand wanting to include something. But it would be a tough task to do it right. After all we got a ‘valentine to the fans’ that was These Are The Voyages, which was terrible, aside from the ending montage suggested by Mike Sussman.

Wow, that was quick!

If memory serves, it wasn’t until filming on STID that the Khan leak happened.

I would bet that this leak is true as well.

And how disappointed are you going to be if it doesn’t happen because they couldn’t arrive at an agreement with Shatner on the size of the role? Remember what the Shatman said during production of ST09: “I don’t do cameos.” And that was followed by months on end of Shatner complaining publicly that JJ wouldn’t put him in the movie. Ha! This is already gearing up to be a fun production!

ORCI: For the love of all that is good and holy, if you get Shatner to be in the movie, don’t make it another comic-book movie with a minute of drama here and there in between action scenes! Give our two beloved Trek heroes a decent amount of dramatic time on screen! Maybe even a few shots that last longer than 15 seconds before you cut! Respect your loyal audience! And your veteran actors!

Keep in mind, folks, that we’re talking about Devin Faraci, not someone with a good track record. He’s basically Harry Knowles lite (both figuratively and literally).

I’ve got mixed feelings regarding this. I guess if it fits in nicely with the rest of the movie then I’m OK with it. If it’s shoe-horned in then I don’t want them in the movie.

21-Wasn’t it Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 2: The Revenge of Khan?

Well, the Simpsons called it So Very Tired a while back, so lets go with that.

All kidding aside, I must be one of the few Trekkies who liked Into Darkness.

Although I’d generally like the JJ-verse movies stand on their own (Nimoy’s cameo in STID was nice, but the movie would’ve worked without it), because it’ll be the 50th, I’d love for this to be true – although I’ll wait for official confirmation to believe it.

Although if it is true, I could see one of the three following scenarios:
1. It’s a version of the “Kirk prime records a message to Spock” scene that was going around a few years ago.
2. We see Kirk in a JJ-verse holodeck program
3. The new movie is about the Nexus!

YES, make it so!

“Nothing to see here, folks…move along.”

You move along mister, the majority here (80%) approve of this idea.

@ 29. Mike Barnett – September 22, 2014

“I’ve got mixed feelings regarding this. I guess if it fits in nicely with the rest of the movie then I’m OK with it”

According to Faraci it does:

“but unlike the cameo intended for 2009’s Star Trek this appearance is plot-driven and integral enough that it might just survive any future revisions.”

Future versions of the alternate reality characters makes the most sense. Perhaps involving the Guardian of Forever as the plot-related way.

This particular source is not known for accuracy.

At all.

I hope this means they’re hitting the reset button.

#22; that was a simpson’s reference
http://simpsons.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Trek_XII:_So_Very_Tired

I hope that means Bob is going to shoot the Shatner scene and work it in.

When it was announced JJ was making his first film there were rumours Shatner & Nimoy would be reunited in that – it would be flipping amazing if all these years later that would be made true!

It would be entirely appropriate given the occasion – c’mon Mr Orci MAKE IT SO!

Ok for me! BUT…

If this is true I want to see Mr. Shatner keep it a secret on twitter! :D

Please, no time travel/multiverse hopping. Make it some kind of message conveyed by Spock Prime or something. As much as I like my TOS homies, even that seems a bit forced.

And while were at it, NO RETREADS and NO BIG BAD. I just read a CinemaBlend article about 5 TOS plots/elements that could be reworked into the movie. How about an original story? An cool, exciting exploration/adventure story? Probably expecting too much from a summer blockbuster Trek. Trek is likely best served by TV.

Yes! Get Spock back home and undo the horrible Kirk death for the 50th anniversary!! That’s a celebration!

This is thrilling news!! So excited!

Thank YOU whoever allowed this info to get out, rather than keeping it secret for the next 2 years so we pretty much have no reason to go see the movie besides that it’s called Star Trek :P

I have mixed feelings, not because I am against it, but because it seems that to a few fans that would be the only reason to like the movie. No matter if it is bad, just put Shatner and Nimoy in it. Maybe the phantom menace would have worked as well with Shatner and Nimoy in it.

The Deadly Years as a teaser maybe?

Spock Prime in the first movie made sense…in the second it felt unnecessary.

I think by now that it’s time for the new crew to get a complete move to themselves without any of the original cast looming over their shoulders. I think the ship has sailed.

Be brave and just move onward with the new case please.

The fans are given a tough time for not being able to let go, but if this rumor is true then I think the creative folk are having an equally tough time trusting their work without having to prop it up with the original cast.

My feeling says this rumor is a hoax, since it is too early into production. It doesn’t feel like the Khan rumor, which felt true from the beginning.
In my opinion the new cast should stand on its own. The danger that it would feel forced to have Shatner and Nimoy in it is very high.

Ive said it before, and will say it again
the easiest way to get Shatner, Koenig, Nichols and Takei into the JJ Verse

Is a big screen reimagining of The Deadly years.

I know I’m in the minority, but by God, how many good byes do we need. I said good bye to the original cast a long time ago–Star Trek VI had an excellent sending off. I thought it was time to move on with Nimoy’s role in Star Trek (2009) which was an excellent way to “reboot” the franchise without retconning. Ingenious in fact.

But then we had to have Nimoy in STID, and frankly I still didn’t see the point. While his role in Star Trek (2009) was critical to tying everything together, his role in STID was exactly the reason they cited they couldn’t shoehorn Shatner in. It clearly looked like fanboys trying anything to get Nimoy in the film. It was an utter and complete waste of time, and it took place during a critical part of the climax of the movie. Here I was, on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next, when bam, lets stop for a few minutes so Spock-prime can tell the crew Khan was a dangerous individual. Really? I thought STID was a great film, better IMHO than Star Trek (2009) except for that scene, and the blatant attempt to redo TWOK at the end.

But I’ve said it a million times, now plus one. Shatner would want more than a cameo–set course thataway, whatever–and he would want to play Kirk-prime, as Nimoy is Spock-prime. And that would take a good part of the story to explain his sudden resurrection. I know many here hated Generations (or at least Kirk’s death–which I admit was ham-handed in its method), but Orci and co. aren’t just going to pretend it never happened, nor should they. It did.

Face it guys, Shatner wants to be the one and only Kirk-prime. And I truly think that wouldn’t ruin the next film and everyone here would be trashing Orci for ruining Shatner’s return.

That’s my take. For my part, as a fan of all the spin-offs and the Abramsverse, I’ve moved on a long time ago. I can watch Shatner anytime I want as Kirk just by watching the original series or movies.
