Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana Go Head-to-head On Special Edition of Spike’s Lip Sync Battle *UPDATED*

Spock and Uhura are throwing down next Thursday on a special one-hour edition of Spike’s Lip Sync Battle.

Thank you, Zachary Quinto’s friends. Without you, there would be no lip sync battle between Spock and Uhura, and what fun would that be? None.

Yep, Star Trek Beyond couple Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are going head-to-head on a special one-hour edition of Spike’s Lip Sync Battle. Entertainment Weekly reports that Quinto wasn’t even sure he wanted to do it until his friends talked him into it. So again: thank you Zachary Quinto’s friends. We salute you!

Both stars threw themselves into rehearsals, working with choreographers and using all the time they were given to practice. “You got to throw yourself into it headlong, show up, and hope I don’t f—k it up,” Quinto said.

Saldana kept forgetting it was a competition, then would remind herself that she was actually trying to defeat him. “I feel like Zach and I have been invited to have fun, and it’s not until somebody comes to me going [in a deep voice], ‘What words do you want to give Zach?’ and my first instinct is to go, ‘Kill it, buddy!’ Then I’m like, [deep voice again] ‘Oh yeah, I’m going to kill you! I’m going to…beat you?’”

It looks like Saldana’s doing TLC, judging both by the the promo and the rather large hint that T-Boz and Chilli are guest stars. (I was hoping for “Waterfalls,” but it looks a little too wild on set for that.) Quinto’s song choices are a mystery, but he seems to be channeling Adam Lambert, boy bands, and possibly Missy Elliott. Well, we always knew he was versatile!

The Next Generation crew may have the biggest reputation for on-set singing, but the new(er) Trek crew’s getting known for the same kind of shenanigans. Apparently they spent a lot of their Star Trek Beyond down time making dub smashes.

While it looks like Quinto’s got some heavy duty choreography happening, this energy’s going to be hard to beat.
