What is Barco Escape?
Simply stated, Barco Escape is an ultra-widescreen format that projects a film across three stitched-together screens that wraps around the front of the theater, delivering a more panoramic and immersive experience.

Star Trek Beyond was shot for traditional theatrical exhibition, so Bad Robot has retrofitted the film to accommodate the wider format.

“Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond is an epic adventure — truly larger than life,” said producer and Bad Robot president J.J. Abrams in a press release. “It is especially fitting, then, that we are partnering with Barco to provide an ultra wide-screen immersive experience using their unique Barco Escape format. This premium format dramatically expands the width of the viewing plane, giving filmmakers an innovative new tool with which to tell stories and audiences an enhanced new way to experience cinema.”

Barco Escape will illuminate the Star Trek universe by creating key “moments” across all three screens that will exhilarate fans. Bad Robot has re-mastered more than 20 minutes of “Star Trek Beyond” into the new format. As part of Bad Robot’s commitment to the innovative technology, an executive from the company will also join Barco Escape’s advisory board.

STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE, with its still crazy-awesome special effects would look great blown up onto three screens! POSTER ONLY

BEYOND will be one hellava ride!

I considered this seriously and I think Star Trek: TMP would be the best candidate of the past Trek films to get the Barco Escape experience. Granted, it’s probably not in the top three of the past several Trek films, so fans may not come in droves to see it. But TMP’s exterior visual effects scenes have that widescreen WOW factor. The opening Klingon battle, the lengthy V’ger flyover and the wormhole scene are fairly long so viewers would have ample time looking around past the center screen to enjoy the wider showcase and not feel like they’re missing out on any storytelling, right? AND if I could have frosting on this cake, maybe it’d help Paramount fork over a budget to redo the scenes in HD for Wise’s DC. :) If I win tickets, I can check it out at the Cinemark 18 in LA!

Curious if this new screen style will work.

I am very curious about Barco Escape.
Does anybody here prefer it to IMAX?

I would love to see any of the films in this format. There is not a theater close to me so I would like to be entered for a poster.
I’ll say Star Trek the motion picture directors cut in the format.

I think st:tmp would be interesting on barco’s three screens. Not the most exciting movie, of course, but you’d have plenty of long sequences to look around and enjoy the sweet, long sequences of the enterprise and v’ger.

And…..

Poster only.

Thanks!!!!

So, the fact I posted this comment means that I am now entered in the contest? If so, that’s pretty cool and easy. Good luck all! LLAP

I wouldn’t want my first viewing in Barco. Maybe it’s a lot better in the theatre but I didn’t like how the screen was split up in ad.

How wonderful to be able to relive, if you will, a great part of cinematic history, with this new twist on the old Cinerama technique. Immersing myself into the fantastic futuristic world of Star Trek will be amazing. Can’t wait to witness Trek in triplicate!

I’ve always wanted to see a Cinemascope film projected in its original three frame format; especially since I saw a large number of big releases in the late 80s to mid 90s in a multiplex originally designed for Cinemascope. Barco Escape not only opens up the action with their format in a similar way to Cinemascope, its all digital system should eliminate all of the technical bugs that plagued the original.

I would like to see Star Trek: Into Darkness in the Barco Escape format POSTER ONLY

Barco Escape sounds great!

Three screens are better than one as I can see the Enterprise swoop/glide in far more awe-inspiring way from the left to the right of the screens that will send shivers down my spine.

I want to feel like I’m enveloped in outer space & surrounded by the lush/hostile environment of another planet. I can see STB in Barco format in Bellevue, WA!

Oh boy Oh boy! Can’t wait to see Captain Kirk and the Crew at it again!!! I’m 63 and grew up with Star Trek, I have waited for the Movies(smile) Live long and prosper!

Three screen are better than one to see the CinemaScope-type grandeur of Trek: sweeping space panoramas, stately starships, and epic battles. The Mutara Nebula scenes from THE WRATH OF KHAN would look fantastic, but the best film to see in this format would be the Director’s Cut of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE; it would do justice to the magnificent V’Ger effects, and I’d be blown away seeing that glorious introduction to the refit Enterprise on three screens!

Thank you!

This reminds me of the circle of screens around you at disneyland. Star trek would be amazing on 3 screens. Because 3 is more than 1!

What a great opportunity. Thanks!

May the odds forever be in my favor . . . to win this!!!

The three screen, wrap around format is great for providing a more immersive experience and helps to place the viewer within the movie. For those reasons I think Star Trek: Insurrection would be a great candidate to adapt to that format. I know it’s not the most liked Star Trek movie, but I think the director (Riker!) really wanted the audience to put themselves in the place of the Ba’ku. From the awesome mountain landscapes to the space battle with the Son’a, the audience would be able to get a better sense of being placed in the movie enhancing the story.

Poster only.

Star Trek: First Contact would have been very cool to see with this format, especially the upsidedown spacewalk scene on the Enterprise E exterior and the Borg battle scene – would give more depth and scale to those scenes and other outer space scenes.

I’d really like to see this new format live and in person.

I would absolutely love to win the poster for my best friend as her birthday is coming up on the 25th. Although I will admit to not knowing much about star trek, my friend is a massive fan and knows all about the film series. So much so she was going to teach me about them and on Friday I’m planning on going round to hers to watch the other movies ahead of the release of the new one which we are also going to watch. Just to round up now, I’d absolutely love to win the poster and suprise her as she’s been going through a difficult spell at the minute with life and everything else going on and I know this would cheer her up :) thanks for taking the time to read this and best of luck to everyone. POSTER ONLY

This is the one movie this year that I want to see in the theater. I’ve never seen a movie on three screens, and will see it in Barco whether I get free tickets or not.

Trek VI for the Barco Escape treatment as stuff like the opening Praxis explosion, the Klingon courtroom, Rura Penthe’s vast snowy vistas, and the rousing end battle would all look awesome in 3screen (plus its the 25th anniversary of VI later this year so time to celebrate!!) *POSTER ONLY*

So stoked to see this in Barco Format

I would LOVE to see Star Trek VI : The Undiscovered Country adapted to the super wide huge screen! It would be fantastic to see the send-off film for the original series cast done in a huge spectacle presentation like that!
