Axanar Asks Star Trek Directors and Studio For Documents in Ongoing Lawsuit

The lawsuit brought by the owners of Star Trek, CBS and Paramount, against fan film Axanar and its creator Alec Peters has started to heat up once again. Axanar‘s lawyers have filed a Motion to Compel Discovery, which asks CBS and Paramount to produce documents including financial statements, salaries for actors and crew from every Star Trek episode and film ever produced, and statements in support of Axanar made by Kelvin timeline directors J.J. Abrams and Justin Lin.

New Documentary Series Teleportation 2161 Examines Star Trek’s Legacy in France

Star Trek has never been a popular show in France, only gaining some popularity there after the recent JJ Abrams reboot films. Teleportation 2161 is a new French 10-part documentary series just translated into English, Spanish, and German that takes a look back at the 50-year-old franchise and what it means to the French in a time when it’s still uncool to be a Trekkie.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew Opens Up A Whole New World Of Trek Gaming

Teamwork – the notion of working together to achieve a common goal – is a touchstone of Star Trek and a key component of the upcoming Star Trek: Bridge Crew, the first virtual reality Star Trek game from Ubisoft and developer Red Storm Entertainment.  I got a chance to try the game and spoke to one of the developers. Star Trek Beyond deleted scene features TOS callback and more Keenser

Paramount Home Entertainment gave USA Today an exclusive clip of a deleted scene from the forthcoming Star Trek Beyond home video release. The clip comes from right after the Enterprise docks at Yorktown and the crew starts to go explore the station. The clip shows a moment between Kirk and Scotty. We see Kirk feel the loneliness of being at the top, and Scotty has a dinner date with a familiar name from Season 3 of TOS. Click on for the video.

Star Trek Beyond comes to home video November 1

We finally have an official release date from Paramount Home Entertainment for Star Trek Beyond. It will be available on physical media in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D , standard Blu-ray, and DVD versions on November 1. As is becoming common, the digital version (sold through digital stores like iTunes) will be available to purchase earlier, on October 4. Full details are after the break.

Star Trek’s Poor Depiction of Mental Illness in a Hopeful Future

The medical advances depicted in Star Trek are nothing less than extraordinary, but solutions have not been found to maladies that millions in our world are struggling with: mental illness. This article examines the few instances where characters are depicted as struggling with mental illnesses, and sadly concludes that Star Trek’s writers completely failed to present us with a future where such illnesses have been eliminated, nor one where mental illness does not carry the stigma it carries today. This is a two-part article, with the second describing my own struggle with mental illness and how I use Star Trek to help.

Happy 50th anniversary – The Man Trap

Star Trek turns 50 years old this week, in the USA the first episode, “The Man Trap” aired today, September 8, at 8:30PM in 1966. Our friends to north in Canada got to see “The Man Trap” two days earlier on September 6. “The Man Trap” was part of the first batch of finished episodes which also included: “Where No Man Has Gone Before”, “The Corbomite Maneuver”, “Charlie X”, “The Naked Time”, and “Mudd’s Women”.
