Star Trek Merch Update: Warp Core Phone Charger, ‘Dorbz’ Mr. Spock, Chair Capes, And Picard’s Crystal

This week has seen the introduction of some new and fun bits of Star Trek merchandise including an “adorbz” Spock, a warp core to charge your phone, capes for your office and a replica of something you may never have noticed on Picard’s desk.

Warp power your phone

The fine folks at ThinkGeek have created another fun Star Trek product. The Star Trek: The Next Generation Warp Core USB Car Charger fits into a cup holder and plugs into your 12V vehicle power adapter (cigarette lighter) to provide two USB ports that can power two devices simultaneously. And it does it in style with pulsing lights when it is plugged in. There is an on/off switch as well to save your dilithium. It costs $39.99 and is available now at ThinkGeek.

Dorbz Spock

Funko has introduced a new like of adorable “Dorbz” vinyl figures, coming in December. These include Predator, Tron, Last Rocketeer and Star Trek. Each 3″ figure comes with a regular version and a variant. For Star Trek the first “Dorbz” figure is for Mr. Spock. There is a regular Spock and a Dorbz “Mirror” Spock. The figures cost $7.99 and can be pre-ordered from Entertainment Earth. (Note: which Spock you get is randomly selected).

Trek your chair

Entertainment Earth has expanded their line of “chair capes” beyond comic book superheroes to Star Trek. This week they introduced six new Trek themed capes which are adjustable to most chair sizes. They are offering classic TOS Operations Red, Command Gold, Science Blue, and Command Green. There is also a Klingon Cape and a Federation Cape.

All will be available in November and can be pre-ordered at Entertainment Earth for $24.99 each.

Picard desk crystal

Did you ever noticed that Capt. Picard had a crystal on his desk? Well the folks at Roddenberry did and they made a replica of it and you can have it for $99.

Hey, I like plastic crap as much as the next guy, but shouldn’t a Trekkie worry about what he leaves behind… in the landfill? A chair cape? Really?? And how many ugly dolls do we really need??

I suppose no one really needs any of these things, but they must sell or they’d stop making them. I do like the warp core usb charger, looks like fun.

Agreed. We are destroying our planet with endless garbage celebrating a future that will never come because we are destroying the planet before it gets here.

Oh, I don’t know, you buy enough of those warp core thingies, you might be able to create a wormhole!
:;;;;;;)

When the fad for those bloody awful deform dolls (like Funko Pops) ends I will celebrate to no end. I’ll buy all the ones left and carry out a ritual melting.

Some of those Funko Pops are the only way to get merchandise of certain characters. Darkwing Duck is a good example.

ME TOO!

So this is what passes for Star Trek “merchandise” these days. Pretty sad. The warp core charger in a cup holder is a particularly odd item; I can just see people getting into accidents as they gawk at their shiny new toy instead of keeping their eyes on the road. They should have just done a desktop version instead.

Pretty abysmal offerings. And I can see those USB chargers being stolen out of cars, just because some thugs will think it’s something expensive they can trade for drugs.
