I despise the lazy creative choice to have yet another Dr. Soong pop out of nowhere just so he can be stunt-casting played by Brent Spiner. I love the show. I’m grateful for it. This was the single biggest flaw with it. Just so bad that it’s over the top.

Wasn’t it obvious that Brent Spiner (without make-up) would appear in the show in some way? I expected it and felt spoiled when his credits appeared in the intro.
And Lore is still out there somewhere.

I agree with Luke, and Dave, I think rather we will find Lore within. “Soong”.

The present of a son of Soong is rather interesting – figuring his possible age (He could be playing slighty young or older) he would have been a pre-teen when his “Brother” was “Born”…his back story, why he wasn’t there when the Crystal Entity attacked the colony and his parents escaped – where was he? hmmm….Does he know his “mother” (or potential mother,Soong could have had another wife,or partner before-after) is now an android.

The whole show is nothing but lazy writing and lazy creative choices. 9 episodes and no starfleet ships have even been seen? An admiral telling Picard to STFU? It’s like watching terrible fan fiction by someone that has only watched Measure of a Man and Nemesis. However, I will keep watching the train wreck because I can’t look away.

This is easily the best of the three Trek seasons we have seen from Secret Hideout. But that doesn’t make it good as the previous two were easily the worst Trek I have ever seen. The positives… They actually managed to come up with some interesting characters. So these people are heading in the right direction….

Agree with all you said there, ML. I share in the disappointment of those who wanted to see at least a moment of SOME type of federation ship this season, too. Bummer.

why is the lack of seeing starfleet ships a big deal for you? how many starfleet ships did we see in TOS? just for example

Oh look… more shots of people standing around talking.

The pics of J.L. Picard look like an ad for Ikea.

Your statement is inaccurate, Roger.

In that first picture Picard is clearly sitting around talking.

The same people who complain for too many people standing around talking are the same ones saying there is too many explosions and action shots. Make your minds up

You can fail in both directions, commanderK, if your choices don’t serve a good story told by directors who know how to stage dynamically without needlessly ADD cutting to ‘spice things up.’ NEM’s cut scene with Data and Picard is a great example of a director not knowing how to salvage a too-long, not-well-written scene between Data and Picard. For all its other flaws, Shatner’s TFF has got some very effective scenes where the camera is moving a slow dance with the characters as they are staged into a cinematic choreography — far cry from the current failings.

I see the show runners don’t get that is more fun to watch two comparable massive starships go at it with some strategy versus hundreds of little snubfighters that just rush in at each other (which was one of the big reasons Trek was once better than Wars?). Anyone else hoping a Balance of Terror BOP decloaks and just plasma torpedoes everything out of its misery?

I kind of agree with you there and they could still do lots of ships, but I don’t like having all these smaller ships going at the big ones. Part of Trek’s original charm was having those kind of submarine battles in space with tactics. Now, they seem to approaching this issue more from a Star Wars perspective unfortunately.

They need some distraction for the cameo of a big ship in the final scene. ;-) “J.L., a starfleet ship is coming. Getting the registry number… wait… NCC 170…can’t read the rest :-)

Come on, how many times are they gonna go to that bandwagon though. It seems like Enterprise is becoming the go to “deus ex Machina” for the cliffhangers of these guys.

And the 7 of 9 show would probably use Voyager in a similar manner.

We are still waiting to know what happened to her. Especially to know what happened to the ablative hull armor…

They’re copying and ritualizing the outer characteristics of Star Trek, hoping to magically conjure its inner qualities (which they do not understand and therefore cannot replicate). A textbook example of a cargo cult.

Yes, but isn’t it obvious to see the current Enterprise “bloody” E or F (not the “original” D) somewhere? Even if it is too obvious and no surprise, I think the disappointment would be bigger not to show her.
There is still Capt. Worf and/or Capt. LaForge out there.

I am more amazed by the fact that we haven’t seen any Starfleet ships yet. I mean isn’t there even a single ship out patrolling in the area where Picard is operating now? I find that hard to believe.

I think they’re really near [or in?] Romulan space [until they get to Coppelia [um] [us], whatev,] so, no ….

You probably need that old Starfleet eye chart, where you have different vessel silhouettes on the wall, and need to call out to doctor whether you are seeing an -a, -b, or -d … (It’s a pretty funny cartoon, saw it for first time yesterday.)

kmart,
Haha! Can you share a link? That would be great

I don’t know… That preview left me with a “meh” reaction. We shall see where this goes but my prediction is let down. Really want to be wrong on that.

There is a lot that irks me about this show, but one of the biggest things is the Vulcan/Romulan ears. They never in any iteration of Trek pointed out like they do. These ears look like elves, not Romulans or Vulcans.

Yeah, I wasn’t crazy about Peck-Spock’s ears either

They’re pointy ears for heavens sake. Christ almighty, there are more important things going on in the world right now. Enjoy the show while you can.

I didn’t even look at the photos… I came straight to the comments!

I have to say, and I don’t like online commenting…

Ship-napping space flowers?

Golden Data Daughters killing brethren as a means to an end?

Soong brushing it all forward?

REALLY need to move away from the teams fracking up the legacy of Roddenberry.

Where the hell did the Cylons come in from?

Just saying; there’s lots of promise here, as with Discovery. And television has ALWAYS been about social programming, or the Starfleet uniform colours wouldn’t match every political party’s across the globe… But this all has just been plain lazy.

And could all production companies get the one thing they are missing about BSG that made it so successful, and I don’t just mean the familial aspect of the storylines? They’re writing 24 episode series and cramming them into 10 episodes. NO. BSG did two mini-series EVERY YEAR. Three months on, three months off, 12-13 episodes each. Not 10 episodes every 16 months and everyone forgets the damn thing a year and a half later. Walking Dead walking-shmed. This isn’t HBO material. It needs flesh and blood (no pun intended? hmmm, maybe pun intended…)

STOP CUTTING CORNERS AND LINING POCKETS. You wanna social program, THEN SOCIAL PROGRAM. I need a meal, not a can of boost, ffs.

With love, eh? JJ = you got more in ye than copy-pasting. The market’s no longer responding to repetition. GET ON IT. Spend! You’re brilliant! You will reap the rewards incredibly so, like BSG did. I mean this for The Expanse, Lost In Space, all these 10 episode cram-fests. TWO SERIES A YEAR. Watch what happens, trust me … my spidey sense is a tingling…

I just saw the finale. I was … wrong, JJ. It’s great stuff. A story that told something true to the soul. Hmph. I like being wrong. It’s when I learn the most.

Keep it up. Love the new crew. The last five minutes made me a Trekker again, 2009 and all the back/up.

Thank you…

Random comment here. I think that Narek looks a lot like Ethan Peck’s young Spock
