As we have been reporting, a number of Star Trek celebrities have been doing what they can to help people cope with life during the coronavirus pandemic. One of them is Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Levar Burton, who will start a new public service today on Twitter.

LeVar Reads – Live

LeVar Burton has announced that starting today he will begin a series of live story readings on Twitter. The Reading Rainbow star is offering this live version of his popular podcast Levar Burton Reads as a way to help, saying on Twitter “I figured that during this difficult time I could contribute by reading aloud to folks who could use some diversion for themselves and their families.” Burton’s plan is to do three readings weekly, each for a different age group.

The first reading will be held tonight – Friday, April 3rd – when Burton plans on reading Neil Gaiman’s We Can Get Them For Your Wholesale. According to Variety, on Monday, April 6 he will read his from picture book The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm and Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman. The young adult selections will be stories from Jason Reynolds’ Look Both Ways: A Tale Told in Ten Blocks.

You can watch the live stream of Levar Burton Reads on his Twitter page.

Others in the Star Trek: The Next Generation family are doing their part during the pandemic. Earlier this week Marina Sirtis posted a video as part of CBS All Access’ AloneTogether campaign.

And here is Sir Patrick Stewart’s latest from his #ASonnetADay series on Twitter.
