Long live the Empire!
I really wish Burnham would speak her dialog rather than whisper ..
Regards.
She speaks fine to me she doesn’t whisper anything.
What… she whispers constantly…
She doesn’t whisper, she speaks softly. Culber does too. Do you have an example of her whispering when it was inappropriate?
I can hear her just fine because audio controls exist on my TV remote, but saying she doesn’t whisper anything is simply absurd. She whispers most of her lines. That isn’t debatable.
Whispering takes out a lot of the tonal vocalizations and sounds way to breathy, which hurts my super sensitive ears. Michael just speaks quietly in a deeper tone. Same with Hugh. But if your auditory quality is poor, and you don’t have great hearing I could see how some might mistake the two, kind of.
I can hear her just fine.
I blame the technical production more than SMG, the audio on this show is terrible.
Amen to that. Her stage-whispering combined with moderate hearing loss means I miss about 2/3 of her dialog.
Killy doing the Riker-lean!
I am giving credit where credit is due: The actors/directors managed to turn the whole Georgio/Burnham dynamic completely on it’s head with Burnham being the (well acted) evil, angry character, while Georgio is the sympathetic one. Bravo to the actors and directors. Tilly is a 180 deg spin too, MW is great as a confident Captain. With the talk of Asperger syndrome in Tilly Prime, I think that put’s that theory to bed since MU Tilly seems not afflicted.
In no way is Georgiou sympathetic. She’s a Hitler wannabe without redeemable qualities. She’s like Trump… if he were female, Asian and a competent leader with onscreen presence.
I feel like with that attitude, you’re going to miss the point of her character study in this two-parter.
I disagree. Also, your Trump analogy is falling on deaf ears (for me at least) because I see Biden as the leader of Hydra and a top notch asshat dipshit who is going to impose his will on the people with all kinds of mandates and rules, taxes and shit. Bet you don’t call his liberal ass Hitler though.
Wow Chris, you’re amazingly stupid.
Of course he is
Wow Chris you are pathetic.
Chris, Trump is trying to create a coup, literally. He can’t accept he just lost (big) and has pathetically tried everything he can to overturn the election. Literally his Attorney General is now leaving because he simply told Trump the truth that there was no massive fraud and he should face reality. And because of that he’s now gone. This happens in dictatorships, not America. He signed on to a ridiculous lawsuit where Texas wanted to overturn the results of OTHER states because they didn’t like their voting procedures? I still can not believe that happened, but was toss on its ass by the Supreme Court as it should have. As all of these silly cases should. He’s a total disgrace and WHY he should’ve never been President in the first place. The last few weeks has made that clear to anyone with basic civility and common sense.
I can not believe over 70 million people voted for this unfit, racist, reality freak show. It has nothing to do with being Democrat or Republican since I can’t think of a single Republican who has acted like this man child before either. He’s just a disgusting person. So glad this moron is on his way out.
Obviously you are not a fan of her. Trump is a sore loser. At least Joe Biden is a humble, competent, human being.
Every President in the last century comes off as a humble, competent human being compared to this mentally off balance petulant man child. Even Nixon comes off like a statesman and just did the right thing in the end by leaving. It’s just incredible this is the President today (for 5 more weeks anymore). This guy would take the entire country down with him just to stay in power if he could instead of just admitting the obvious and doing what is in the best interest of the country.
Hopefully we will never elect something like Trump ever again.
She’s WAY too smart to be Trump. She can read, for instance. She’s closer to Putin than Trump.
Yeah I still have no sympathy for Space Hitler. It’s nice she has a (tiny) little compassion, it still doesn’t erase the millions, possibly billions of people who has died under her rule.
But I will be fair to Trump and can’t compare the two because even though he’s an awful person, fortunately he doesn’t live in a country that gives him the power to supreme rule….as that reality has probably hit him over the head the past few weeks trying to overturn an election he clearly lost.
And I think he’s mostly doing that because he’s probably afraid he will get indicted once he leaves office…as he should be. ;)
well this descended into politics so CLOSED
My question is why the Guardian cares that much about whether Georgiou lives or dies? I guess 900 years of dad jokes mellows a trans-dimensional oracle out.
Maybe his race (if he is a Guardian of Forever) is angry about what the other races did to time in the temporal wars.
I can’t wait to see the full scene with Lt. Bryce. He looks so badass cool in that still!
I was just waiting to hear your reaction to that PeachesXtreme.
I’m guessing the more evil one is in the MU, the more mascara they wear…?
Pfft, probably.
I’m guessing Georgiou couldn’t save her, returns to the real world, gives up her BS homo/suicidal tendencies, and her body decides not to die because she’s accepted her fate and thereby redeemed herself for her spinoff series, right?
(Right?)
That or they zip her back to her own time (in the real world) because she’s suddenly acting cooperative. Either way, called it.
I wonder if the source of the Burn (the Verubin Nebula) might be the same place where Craft encountered the Discovery in the Short Trek episode Calypso. If it is, it might mean that the Discovery will make it to the nebula but the crew will be forced to evacuate the ship — and not return for a millennium?
A fall from grace… She deserves to die.
I have to say I been enjoying Space Hitler more this season (since they are finally developing her beyond what we already knew) but I’m really hoping she’s gone after this next episode or at least by the end of the season. I have never warmed up to her and seeing all the comments on various boards and especially this one, I don’t seem to be in the minority.
Obviously they are trying to redeem her a little now, which is fine, but I wish they tried to do it a lot sooner. What’s odd about it is it’s clearly only being done now because she’s leaving the show soon and they know they have to clean up her image more before she runs her own show.
People generally watch Star Trek to follow characters like Kirk, Picard, Pike or Archer because even if they are flawed and make mistakes, they are all good people with strong moral values and deeply cares about others; not for an evil despot who literally laughs and shrugs off over killing millions of others. This is a woman who bragged about carpet bombing the Talosians off their planet last season. Yeah, how very IDIC of her!
I still have no idea what they are thinking to give someone like this a show, Section 31 or not.
Joe Biden won the electoral college tonight. I feel good about that. Trump can keep on fighting and talking his lies about the election. He’s delusional and out of touch with reality. I don’t care what Trump does anymore.
You keep calling her Space Hitler and I know why. She’s not a likeable character but I’m enjoyed her performance last episode. The Mirror Universe will not treat her well.
I want Trump out of my life.
Obviously we know they want to keep Georgiou around because they want to keep Yeoh, but I think they really misread how people would adapt to her as a character. I’m guessing they thought by now she would be a much more popular character kind of the way other villains have been like Khan or Dukat maybe. Not liked them specifically but the idea that her ‘charm’ would just would be enough to want to keep seeing her, but it doesn’t seem to be working with many. And as bad as they are to some, they at least never ate people. ;) Maybe she has a huge fanbase out there somewhere, but certainly none of the sites I visit, here especially.
But then again, if she was just better written or just more developed character like they are now doing this season, maybe she would be a much more popular character today and not someone people groan at whenever her name comes up.
As for Trump, I already said enough above so I’ll leave it alone. I know it’s off topic, I was just responding to others. But yes, HAPPY he’s on his way out and it’s been confirmed today (but it’s been confirmed for a long long time now, it’s just official). The 37 days can’t come soon enough for both most of America and the world in general.
this is your final warning for off-topic political derailing. Next time you go off topic or make any infraction, permaban.
With only 4 episodes to go, where do people think that this season is headed? The primary mystery of the season, why most of the dilithium and the warp ships using it were destroyed seems to have been functionally abandoned. Are we stuck in the Mirror Universe for the rest of the season?
“seems to have been functionally abandoned”
Isnt that what they effectively did every season?
Season 1: Klingon War abandoned for MU, then unsatisfying quick fix
Season 2: Complex Red Angel mystery (Science vs Faith) abandoned for unsatisfying Terminator AI time travel story
Season 3: Complex Fall of Federation mystery sidelined for another MU soujourn and boring Emerald Kazon with Wicked Witch of the Alpha Quadrant Mini Me villain
Any questions?
I am definitely in the minority here – I have definitely not been enjoying the DSC version of the MU. I’ve really been enjoying this overall season but to spend two whole episodes in the MU is just.. ugh. The incessant overacting from some of the principals is probably what’s getting to me the most.
Then I’m in the minority too, though to be fair I wasn’t all that thrilled with the MU on DS9, either, and DS9 is my favorite Trek series. The first MU episode in TOS was a fun what-if. but that fun’s worn wayyyy out, that what-if has been iff’ed to death.
EDIT: Though I actually thought the MU 2-parter in Enterprise was good. Probably because it tied into a TOS episode (okay, two) I actually enjoyed.
Evil Burnham is hott. Lorca has great taste.
Agreed. Hubba hubba.
Two unrelated thoughts:
1 – in hindsight the Discovery crew’s cheerful acquiescence to Tilly’s acting promotion was likely intended to be a foil to the aggressive competition in the MU. Still don’t like the decision, but understand what the writers were trying to accomplish.
2. – the more I reflect, the more I’m convinced MU Burnham’s death at the incident with the ISS Burn will turn out to be essential, paralleling both the decision point in Tapestry and Edith Keeler’s death in The City on the Edge of Forever.
Georgiou will end up as a true believer leader in S31, but I’m still not at all able to figure out if it’s 32nd or 23rd century. My gut tells me it’s the 32nd century because it’s really needed there. I have no idea how the writers will finesse the “molecules want to stay in their time and universe” problem.
Buran — NOT Burn.
Fought with predictive spelling on that one too.
But the contraction from Buran to Burn is interesting.
They haven’t left themselves much time to play with when it comes to wrapping up the primary arcs, after this MU detour. Though maybe we are going to end the season on a cliff-hanger with those unresolved .. .
It could be that the MU detour in some way contributes to wrapping up the primary arcs in a way we don’t anticipate.
It’s making me wonder increasingly whether this set up / backdoor pilot for Yeoh’s show is doing several things at once:
– convincing Georgiou that she can’t save MU Michael and transform Terran society
– resolving Georgiou molecular dissociation so she can survive in the 32nd century Prime Universe
– showing Georgiou that her loyalty is now to Prime Michael, and how valuable it is to preserve and restore the 32nd century Federation – motivating her to be part of a 32nd century S31 in the Prime Universe
– finding out somehow a key clue or scientific fact that could explain how the Burn was triggered.
