San Diego Comic-Con is going virtual again this year with Comic-Con@Home, and Paramount+ will be there to highlight their animated series, which include two Star Trek shows.
Lower Decks and Prodigy headed to Comic-Con@Home
Paramount+ just announced two back-to-back virtual panels for Comic-Con@Home on Friday, July 23, which will be part of a larger “Peak Animation” programming block for the streamer to highlight their animated shows. The Star Trek Universe at Comic-Con@Home panels will feature exclusive conversations with cast and producers, moderated by Lower Decks actor (and husband of Strange New Worlds’ Rebecca Romijn) Jerry O’Connell. The event will kick off at 10 AM Pacific Time.

Prodigy Panel
Paramount+, CBS Studios and Nickelodeon present the inaugural cast panel for the highly anticipated upcoming Star Trek animated kids’ series Star Trek: Prodigy with voice cast Kate Mulgrew, Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Angus Imrie, Rylee Alazraqui, Dee Bradley Baker, and Jason Mantzoukas alongside executive producers Kevin Hageman and Dan Hageman and director/co-executive producer Ben Hibon.
Lower Decks Panel
Join Star Trek: Lower Decks voice cast members Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, and Eugene Cordero alongside creator Mike McMahan for an exclusive conversation and an extended look at the second season. Season two is bigger, funnier and Star Trekkier than ever before. Fans can expect strange, new (and familiar) aliens to challenge the crews of the U.S.S. Cerritos and the U.S.S. Titan. For Mariner, Tendi, Rutherford, and Boimler, the animated adventure is just beginning.
Following those, Paramount+ will feature panels for their upcoming adult animated comedy Harper House, and Stephen Colbert Presents Tooning Out the News. As they are focusing on using Comic-Con@Home to promote their “Peak Animation” offerings, there’s nothing planned for other Paramount+ shows, like the three live-action Star Trek series. However, it’s always possible they could announce or release something for those shows during the Star Trek Universe portion of their Comic-Con@Home event.

SDCC released their panels schedule and there aren’t any other dedicated to the live action shows. They might just wait until Star Trek Day in September, if they do a big virtual event again.
As noted in the article, Paramount+ is focusing on Animation for CC@Home. There will not be any more Star Trek panels.
Yeah SNW is what I want to see and hear about, but I think a cast appearance at CC will depend on whether or not production wraps up in Toronto before then. There is still a quarantine required for those coming in from the U.S. so I am pretty sure producers will not want to have to delay end of production or extra shooting if they can possible help it.
Overall, things have really improved up here (Ontario) with daily cases dropping from 4K-5K just a couple of months ago to around 200 or less per day now. We still have restrictions, but I hope the cast has had a chance to start enjoying outdoor dining and bars and the warm weather.
Paramount/CBS doesn’t entirely rely on Comic Con to announce things given Star Trek Day, First Contact Day, and Picard Day. Honestly, they could release a teaser for SNW whenever they want, but, if I had to pinpoint to an actual event for its announcement, I’d guess Star Trek Day.
Prodigy is the show we know least about at the moment and it sounds like it’s going to premiere sometime in the next few months. They’ve barely released a thing for this show.
A little disappointing we’re not getting any of the live action shows, including SNW, but I guess it makes sense considering these two shows will premiere this year and LDS just mere weeks before CC.
And I’m guessing CBS wants to do something big for Star Trek birthday anniversary itself and have it’s own event like we got on First Contact day. That’s probably when we’ll see tons of new stuff, especially since all the shows will have been done filming by then with maybe the exception of Picard.
We’re still six months out from the premiere of SNW.
Can’t say I agree with ViacomCBS super limited Strategic Comms approach, but it seems that they really aren’t into releasing any early sneak peeks.
We’ll likely get the Discovery S4 trailer at the next event.
Sounds good! Of all the current or upcoming shows in the franchise, the two that most interest me are the two animated ones, so I’m happy.
