[Lower Decks interviews start 25:44]
Tony and Laurie start with the big news about Alex Kurtzman’s extended $160 million 5-year deal at ViacomCBS and what that means for the Star Trek Universe. They discuss the departure of most of the Star Trek movie catalog from Paramount+ and the 2022 launch of Paramount+ in Europe (including Prodigy), check in on which actors have wrapped up their work on Discovery season 4, then quickly go over the Covid precautions being taken at next week’s upcoming 55-Year Mission convention in Las Vegas. For a full preview of the con (including a chat with Chase Masterson) check out the newest episode of the Shuttle Pod.
Then they get to the main topic: Star Trek: Lower Decks. Tony tells Laurie about the outdoor screening party in LA the night before and gives her a preview of his red carpet interviews with the cast and show creator Mike McMahan. They play excerpts from TrekMovie’s roundtable interviews with the four Lower Decks stars: Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Eugene Cordero, and Noël Wells. [WARNING: Minor season 2 spoilers]
They wrap things up with a fan’s detailed look at the USS Protostar (the ship featured on Prodigy) and a trip back in time to when a future Star Trek historian’s parents could film William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and Catherine Hicks shooting Star Trek IV.

I love the Lower Decks cast! They are a splendid addition to the Star Trek universe.
100%
Happy anniversary Laurie and Tony! You’ve taken us on quite a journey and I know you’ll be the perfect companions to “LDS” which as you know airs here in the UK shortly. Loved TVH footage and anecdotes. Great stuff and how thrilling it must have been to be visiting the aquarium on that day.
Thank you, Scott! And yes… I am in awe of John Tenuto’s parents.
Hello Tony and Laurie,
Happy 1st Anniversary! I’ve enjoyed your podcasts. I started listening a year ago. I’ve always found your analysis to be insightful and fair. And you two know how to make your audience laugh. I’m looking forward to new trek but always look forward to my Saturday morning trek movie podcast.
P.S I’m still hoping Levar or Mayim Bialik gets the jeopardy gig.
Thanks Kevin! Just know that makes it more rewarding to do the podcast. I like your Jeopardy! hopes but I don’t think it’s going to happen. I think this guy always had it. Harumph.
