In August Hero Collector will release the fifth entry in their Designing Starships series, this time focusing on that station and ships from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as well as alien ships from beyond the show.
Designing DS9… and beyond
The Designing Starships series takes fans behind the scenes to see how familiar vessels and stations in Star Trek came to be. Full of illustrations including inventive concept art, Star Trek Designing Starships: Deep Space Nine and Beyond reveals the story behind the titular space station, the USS Defiant, and more.
Featuring full-color photos, illustrations from the award-winning designers, and behind-the-scenes details, the iconic DS9 station along with dozens of more ships from other Star Trek shows and movies come to life in this latest book, edited by Ben Robinson.
“In addition to exploring how each ship was created and utilized on Deep Space Nine, the production art and conversations offer fascinating glimpses into what could have been, into concepts considered but not used,” Ben Robinson says. “And beyond Deep Space Nine, the book also provides a look at the process behind some of the most important alien ships — including Klingon, Romulans, and Vulcan ships – seen in previous and subsequent Star Trek shows and films.”
To help tell the story, Star Trek Designing Starships: Deep Space Nine and Beyond includes extensive interviews with the concept artists who created the ships for the various Star Trek shows and movies from The Original Series through to The Next Generation movies to Enterprise.
The 200-page Star Trek Starships: Deep Space Nine and Beyond arrives in hardcover on August 24, and it is priced at at $34.95 ($44.95 in Canada). You can pre-order it from Amazon.com. or directly from the Eaglemoss Shop.

Glad they moved away from the glorified runabout on DS9. They did a good job on the Defiant.
Do like some of those designs that had incorporated some kind of nav deflector and not a big fan of the “nose”.
It’s a shame we never got to see Worf or Sisko use the warhead/nose against the Borg or Dominion respectively.
The Vor’cha Class – what a gorgeous ship. It seems like the new shows get to the glorified runabout stage of design (credit to Cmd. Bremmon), stop and then hit copy and paste.
I miss Star Trek ships.
