‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ Cast Reunites For Audiobook Of Brent Spiner’s ‘Fan Fiction’

Next week St. Martin’s Press releases a new novel by Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Brent Spiner which he describes as a mashup of a thriller with a dark comedy, and “partially a memoir, but none of it’s real, really, even though a lot of things actually happened.” There will also be an audiobook version voiced by Spiner, joined by a number of his TNG co-stars. We have some audio excerpts to get you started.

Brent Spiner’s Fan Fiction

The title of Spiner’s new novel is Fan Fiction – A Mem-Noir: Inspired by True Events. Here is how the publisher describes it:

Brent Spiner’s explosive and hilarious novel is a personal look at the slightly askew relationship between a celebrity and his fans. If the Coen Brothers were to make a Star Trek movie, involving the complexity of fan obsession and sci-fi, this noir comedy might just be the one.

Set in 1991, just as Star Trek: The Next Generation has rocketed the cast to global fame, the young and impressionable actor Brent Spiner receives a mysterious package and a series of disturbing letters, that take him on a terrifying and bizarre journey that enlists Paramount Security, the LAPD, and even the FBI in putting a stop to the danger that has his life and career hanging in the balance.

Spiner collaborated with writer  Jeanne Darst (Fiction Ruined My Family) for the novel, which arrives in hardcover and ebook on Tuesday, October 12.

TNG stars join in for the audiobook

The book includes scenes with Spiner’s real-life TNG costars, and a number of them have joined him for the audiobook version. The full cast recording of Fan Fiction includes LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Genie Francis, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Patrick Stewart.

In the following excerpt, Brent tells begins to deal with the mystery on the set of Star Trek: The Next Generation, with a little help from LeVar Burton.

This second audio clip just features Spiner, talking about a pivotal moment as a young actor in New York.

This is very, very tempting

holy cow, I was already kind of interested in the book, but having the rest of those folks give voice to themselves in his tale. Wow.za.

And getting a signed copy of the book to boot? Probably way cheaper than getting ink at a con

Explosive is quite the overused adjective these days….

Looks pretty cool. Was underwhelmed with that low budget sort of partial reality series he did a couple years back. This sounds much better.

I thought Fresh Hell was hilarious, and I loved his costar, which seems to have dropped out of the acting world.

I’m going to snag this audiobook from the library. Their are already 22 holds on 3 copies of the audiobook! I’d say that’s a pretty solid level of interest.

I can’t wait to read this, though something tells me that its about him dealing with Gail.

For this they made it to reunite but for “Picard” they don’t – such a huge shame and never returning opportunitie (cause of age)!!!
Makes me SAD!!
