‘Star Trek: Discovery’ And ‘Lower Decks’ Nominated For 4 Golden Reel Sound Editing Awards

Award season rolls on in Hollywood and two Star Trek shows are being recognized for their artistry and craftsmanship. This time it’s for the people who make the shows sound as good as they do.

Discovery nominated for 3 Golden Reels

Today The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) announced nominees for the 69th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards. The awards celebrate the work of “the world’s most talented sound artists and their contributions to the past year.” And Star Trek: Discovery picked up three nominations, all for the episode “Kobayashi Maru.” This was a new best for the show, which was nominated for one Golden Reel in 2021.

Discovery is nominated in the following three categories…

Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Series 1 Hour – Dialogue / ADR.

Discovery is going up against For All Mankind, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Morning Show, The Nevers, Squid Game, Succession, and Ted Lasso.

Lower Decks nominated for Golden Reel

Star Trek: Lower Decks picked up its first-ever Golden Reel nomination. The episode “Strange Engerties” was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Animation Series or Short

Lower Decks is going up against Jurassic World – Camp Cretaceous, Love, Death + Robots, Star Wars: Visions, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and Star Wars: A Galaxy of Sounds.

The nominees from the Lower Decks team are:

The Golden Reel Awards ceremony will be held as an international virtual event on Sunday, March 13, 2022.

Great to see the continued recognition for the crafts.

I just rewatched the Discovery S4 premiere with one of our kids. The sound is fantastic on our new QLED television.
