Doug Jones To Be Honored With Inaugural Make-Up & Hair Stylists Guild Chair Award

One of the stars of Star Trek: Discovery is being recognized for his lifetime of work.

Doug Jones is first recipient of Chair Award

Doug Jones has been delighting fans as the Kelpien Saru for four seasons of Star Trek: Discovery, which is just the latest of a lifetime of acting work made even more challenging through his many other roles under makeup and prosthetics. And just for that reason, the Hollywood Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild has chosen to honor Jones with their inaugural Chair Award at their upcoming awards ceremony.

“Talk to any number of the top make-up artists and hair stylists in our industry and they will tell you Doug Jones is a true pleasure to work and collaborate with. He is a talented, consummate professional with infinite patience while morphing into all his memorable characters. No one is more deserving of this honor and we wish him a heartfelt congratulations,” said Julie Socash, President of IATSE Local 706, in a statement.

Jones’ career dates back to the 1980s and he has been in a number of high-profile projects and won a number of awards – including picking up his second Saturn Award for Discovery last October. Like with Discovery, his career highlights have been performed beneath makeup and prosthetics. This includes playing the romantic leading Amphibian Man in Guillermo del Toros’s The Shape of Water, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2017. Jones was also the man behind the mask for Pan (and Pale Man) in Pan’s Labyrinth, the Silver Surfer in Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Abe Sapien in Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. And that’s just a small fraction of his dozens of credits from film and television.

Sonequa will be there for her co-star

Star Trek: Discovery co-star Sonequa Martin-Green will present Jones with the honor at the upcoming Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 19. Earlier this month Discovery was nominated by the Guild for a makeup award which will be handed out the same evening.

I alm always delighted to see good things happen to good people.
Congratulations, Doug Jones!

And he was one of the Gentlemen in Buffy’s “Hush.” Who were based on Mr. Burns, as it happens.

Doug Jones is the heart of Discovery. Saru is one of the best ST characters of all time.

Best thing about Discovery is pretty much anything involving his character. Great news!

He was also great in the two Hellboy movies.

This man was Mac Tonight.
