I’m loving the implications of the title. The whole season has been about communicating in good faith and figuring out how negotiate, basically the thesis statement of all of Trek: seemingly implacable foes learning to communicate in order to solve problems.

Communicating to solve problems, seeing the madness the world is in now I wish more people had heeded this. Instead they resolve to fighting and violence to show who is more “powerful” while in my opinion fighting is only for the weak.

It’s remarkable how little we know about Detmer after 4 seasons. I hope now that the main cast is so small they give her some actual development.

Agreed. I feel like they either need to show much more of the bridge crew or just stop showing them all together. The one liners and reaction shots are just silly.

Stop showing them? So just write them all out and hire some less talented actors to mutely follow orders? Because they’d have to let these folks go if they weren’t going to use them at all. That would be actually silly. They have good actors on the bridge and they should use them more, I can agree with that.

I feel like this show sorely needs some shore leave. Like, let’s get these people out of the usual situations and get to know them better! Then the stuff on the bridge would carry more weight. I do like that they aren’t a revolving bunch of forgettables, though, like on a lot of the old shows. (Save Voyager (and maybe something else, idk) where they put in the effort to show how small the crew was by keeping the background actors consistent. But even then when I rewatched some of it over the last few years I needed a bit of a who’s who from the Delta Flyers podcast to recognize people.)

I honestly did not remember most of these characters’ names until this season.

Voyager not having a recurring guest cast after Basics Part 2 was a silly mistake IMO. But they really didn’t name many people who weren’t one-offs or destined to die on that show. Ayala, Chell, Carey, Ensign Wildman, the kids, and that was pretty much it.

“Seven of Nine and two other crewman have been taken prisoner!” my favorite line illustrating how silly that got.

I prefer every episode is a mission. This whole season as an episode is annoying.

How do you say nothing is happening plotwise without saying nothing is happening:

Oh lookie! Vinyl outfits! Aren’t we kickass looking now!

It’s almost as though they don’t want to spoil it, but you’d need to have a lick of sense to sus that out…

Discovery’s track record this season has been one of boredom and hugs…

I’ve given up. Perhaps Picard will be better. Hanging on for Strange New Worlds now.

Ditto. Just not interested.
