Podcast: All Access Hooks Up With Star Trek Movie News And ‘Strange New Worlds’ Episode 6

All Access Star Trek podcast episode 95 - TrekMovie

[Strange New Worlds news and review starts at 16:05]

Tony and Laurie start with an update from Paramount studio chief Brian Robbins on the next Star Trek movie, enhanced by Simon Pegg’s “I don’t f-ing know” comment (and enthusiasm for filming the movie) at FedCon in Germany. Then they discuss Marina Sirtis’ report on the great send-off the TNG cast is getting in Picard season 3 (vs. how things went in Star Trek: Nemesis), Prodigy executive producer Aaron Waltke’s explanations about the USS Dauntless, and the imminent return to production of Discovery. They recommend the latest episode of The Shuttle Pod podcast, talk about the 20-pound Enterprise in the room made by TOMY, then cover the latest news on Strange New Worlds, including a guest appearance by Jesse James Keitel, more info on Kirk’s presence in season 2, and the future appearance of Dr. Roger Korby. Then they jump into their review of SNW episode 6, “Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach.” They wrap up with a look at Wrath of Khan ice cream (and other related festivities), and a surprise Star Trek connection between TOS matte artist Albert Whitlock and the great Mel Brooks.

First time I’m kind of sorry I can’t hear the podcast because of the spoiler issue. As a lifelong admirer of Mel Brooks I’m very curious about that topic. Was worried something happened to him.

The Mel Brooks bit is right at the very end! The “bits” section starts at 48:50.

Thanks a lot, I love that story. Mel Brooks is such a good soul.I think I will download that audiobook, too :)

I love that Tony downloaded it while we were recording. I’m reading instead of listening myself, but either way, it’s glorious.

What happened to the episode? I was playing it and now it’s gone and I’m getting a 404 error if I try to load the mp3 file directly.

It’s being re-uploaded! Stand by.

The ‘play’ button isn’t working for me.

not sure what is up with apple player embed. It has been swapped out with Stitcher.

I do wish Marina Sirtis would get over herself and her contribution to Trek. She barely features as a footnote. Honestly, delete her from Trek history and, other than them throwing her the bone and letting her crash the D (the ships counsellor at helm?) Troi features somewhere below Dr Crusher but just above Data’s cat.
Pointless.

There’s an old Brooks aphorism that actually kind of relates to this week’s SNW episode: “Tragedy is when I scratch my expensive new wristwatch. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die.”
