Shaxs From ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Goes Beast Mode In His Own Upcoming One-Shot Comic From IDW

IDW has already brought the Bajoran security officer Shaxs from the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks into their new ongoing Star Trek comic series, but now the character is going to be highlighted with his own one-shot as part of the upcoming “Day of Blood” crossover event.

Shaxs’ Best Day

Star Trek: Day of Blood – Shaxs’ Best Day is a one-shot comic coming in September, written by Ryan North, who penned IDW’s popular Lower Decks comic mini-series last year. The 30-page standalone ties into the Star Trek: Day of Blood event which kicks off next month.

Here is the official synopsis for the Shaxs comic:

You’ve seen Captains Benjamin Sisko and Worf with their crews of the U.S.S. Theseus and Defiant stop the fascist, god-killing clone Kahless II from declaring war on non-followers across the galaxy in a brutal battle on Qo’noS. But you haven’t seen it from the eyes of the man, the myth, the legend, Lieutenant Junior Grade Shaxs!

The art is being provided by Derek Charm (Jughead and Marvel’s The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl), including the A cover.

According to IDW, the new comic features “the Bajoran’s beast-mode brawl” and showcases “all the behind-the-scenes Klingon-zealot butt-kicking in full animated glory!” Speaking to Popverse about the Shaxs comic, writer Ryan North said:

I was asked if I would be willing to write a Star Trek comic where Shaxs got to live his absolute best day and go completely ham on a bunch of fascist Klingons, and I said yes before our editor, Heather Antos, was even part-way through asking me. And it was only more exciting when I learned Derek Charm was on board to draw it — we’d been trying to find a way to work together again since Squirrel Girl ended, so this was just great.

The Shaxs one-shot also features a B cover by Lower Decks animator and character designer Robby Cook.

Day of Blood starts next month

Shaxs’ Best Day arrives on September 27, capping off the 5-issue Day of Blood crossover event that begins in July and ends in September. See our previous report for more details, covers, and a full schedule.

“Shax’s Best Day arrives on September 27, capping off the 5-issue Day of Blood crossover event”

Day of Blood is a seven-issue cover. It includes FCBD 2023: Prelude to Day of Blood, Day of Blood #1, Defiant #6, Star Trek #11, Defiant #7, Star Trek #12, and Day of Blood: Shaxs’ Best Day. Also, you misspelled “Shaxs” in the article twice, as “Shax” and “Shax’s.”

You’re just a little ray of sunshine aren’t you?

LOL! Just being helpful, not sunshiny. :)

I agree. I’ve corrected the character’s name (and multiple other characters’ names) on her before. If you run a website, do it right! 🤷‍♂️

“You’ve seen Captains Benjamin Sisko and Worf with their crews of the U.S.S. Theseus and Defiant stop the fascist, god-killing clone Kahless II from declaring war on non-followers …”

Yay… Star Trek… :(

Have you watched DS9?

I’d be okay with some one off’s of Lt JG Shaxs…..

Now suddenly I want a Shaxs spin off show! ;D

(Not until after the Legacy show of course)

What I want is for these things to be available for preorder in Canada when they are announced.

I am building up a list of books and comic that I can’t preorder online yet:

– Lower Decks crew manual

– IDW Star Trek annual

– and now this one.

I’m heading out with one of our teens tomorrow to a comic/game store, and will see if they can do it for me.

Star Trek licensing is doing noticeably better on the products, but distribution and promotion outside the United States still needs some work.

I say we go whole hog and do an entire spinoff called STAR TREK: NEELIX.

Mariner can be a recurring character as Neelix’ wacky uncle.

(I know, don’t give them ideas. But the writers are on strike these days…)

So if they ever decide to do a live action version of Shaxs, who should play the character? I suggest John Hamm or Michael Cudlitz or Stephen Lang.

Clancy Brown would be my pick

Why not the VA?

Well, I did consider it but I don’t think Fred Tatasciore ever did any live-action work but he could certainly be an option if asked. I think he prefers to work only in voice-acting though.

Oh fair enough

Clancy Brown or Ron Perlman.
