Last week we reported how Paramount Home Entertainment announced they will be updating the Star Trek: Picard – The Final Season home releases with an enhanced visual effects shot not included in the original release. We now have confirmed how fans who purchased sets before the updated release can get the latest version.
Update your Picard
If you purchased Star Trek: Picard – The Final Season or Star Trek: Picard – The Complete Series on Blu-ray or DVD and your set does not include the enhanced visual effect in the season finale episode “The Last Generation” (see previous article for detail) Paramount will offer a replacement.
To get the replacement, go to the contact form for Paramount Home Entertainment Blu-ray/DVD Support. When filling out the form choose “Other” for the “Issue Type” and fill in your contact/mailing information, and then for the Issue Details provide which set you have (ie. The Final Season or The Complete Series) and which disc you’d like replaced. For example, on the Final Season Blu-ray set “The Last Generation” is on disc 3, for the DVD version of the set, it’s on disc 4.
You can order the final season of Picard at Amazon on Blu-ray for $31.95. The limited edition Steelbook has sold out and the DVD is currently out of stock. The complete series set with all three seasons is available at Amazon on Blu-ray for $59.95 and DVD for $49.99.
Picard Legacy moved to November
The update to the sets has delayed the release of the Star Trek: The Picard Legacy Collection which was originally set to be released on October 17th. Paramount has set a new release date of November 7th. Described as “the definitive release for Next Generation fans.” The limited edition set includes 54 individually numbered Blu-ray discs and unique packaging that houses every TV series and film featuring Jean-Luc Picard. That includes 7 seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, 3 seasons of Picard, and the 4 TNG feature films along with over 35 hours of special features. This limited set also includes an exclusive edition of The Wisdom of Picard featuring brand new artwork and quotes, along with a one-of-a-kind deck of playing cards, a magnet sheet featuring all of Captain Picard’s badges and four custom Chateau Picard drink coasters.
You can pre-order the Legacy Collection at Amazon for $199.95.
A couple of questions remain
For folks buying the set now, the question is how to identify the updated sets. As of now Paramount has not provided any details if there is way to tell from the packaging.
A second question pertains to international buyers, it’s not been made clear if the international sets need the same updating. It’s very likely that the sets will come with the updated scene, because the release dates are almost two months later then the US. But again, we currently have no specific confirmation.
The home video release of the third season will be available soon in these countries:
- United Kingdom – 20 November 2023 (DVD/BD/Steelbook)
- France – 15 November 2023 (DVD/BD/Steelbook)
- Germany – 16 November 2023 (DVD/BD/Steelbook)
- Benelux – 17 November 2023 (DVD/BD)
- Spain – 16 November 2023 (DVD/BD/Steelbook)
- Australia – 22 November 2023 (tentative) (DVD/BD)
- Japan – 22 November 2023 (DVD/BD)

And a third question remains regarding the Legacy set: why isn’t DS9’s pilot episode included? Without it, the set is not complete.
Do you want a new film scan in 2K HD, or for them to just use the composite video master, or just rip the DVD. I don’t see them spending the 40 thousand plus to scan it, which doesn’t include the cost to upscale or re-render the effects.
I dunno, that mistake could be the upside down biplane stamp of Star Trek discs.
OK, I am a little confused. I bought Picard Season 1-3 box set. So what DVD number do I need to replace? (No, I haven’t opened it yet because it is a gift)
Disk 3 in the Blu-Ray set or Disk 4 in the DVD set.
Thank you.
Make sure to note that it is disk 3 or 4 of season 3 if you’ve bought a box set containing all seasons.
Do we have to send back the disk that we have now? Seems like that would become a collectors item.
I did not have to send the disc back.
Only Star Trek fans can get worked up on something so trivial.
Personally, I would be much more excited about a 2 hour behind the scenes documentary on how they updated this effect.
Thanks Matt. Just submitted my request.
Really wish they would have just refit the D instead of rechristening the Titan-A
Agreed as the D was originally supposed to be the G.
No argument here. I would have a refitted Enterprise D with Riker in command seen at the end of “The Last Generation.” I would have kept the Titan the Titan, or perhaps renamed her Picard. Even though the brief glimpse of the F was cool, it would have been more emotional if it was instead the retirement ceremony of the E at Frontier Day.
Are the Blu-ray masters the same for this set?
I ask this because there were some minor errors that crept into the remastering, probably fixed for streaming.
I’m thinking about the shot of blue screen visible as characters leave ten-forward in Imaginary Friend.
The whole Sins of the Father issue of the picture being too closely cropped to the inner 4:3 frame, where the original SD version has more image around the edges due to the safe area of each shot being included.
Thank you for posting this! I’ve already sent them a message!
I was a little bummed to NOT find a bonus feature on the scoring for season 3, especially my being a film score fanatic as much as I am a Trek fan. Season 3 had the best scoring since…. well…the Berman era. And after all the hype about it I would’ve liked to have seen a featurette to highlight it.
I put in my request for the replacement blu-ray disc…Is Paramount going to send an email or something to let us know if they got my request for the replacement or not? Just curious 🤔
Unclear. I never received a confirmation or followup email. It’s been over a week now.
I did not get an e-mail but I did get the disc. It just showed up today (Oct23)
FYI My Picard blu ray season 3 replacement disc arrived today
My replacement disc arrived today as well.
I received my replacement disc today from Paramount (Oct. 23). There was no advance notice that it was shipping. It just arrived out of the blue. I put in my request the first week of October.
