Watch Mariner And [SPOILER] Face Off In Clip From ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Season 4 Finale

The final episode of the fourth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks arrives on Thursday. Paramount+ is keeping things tight when it comes to spoilers, not even revealing the title. However, a new clip offers some SPOILER clues.

Lower Decks Season 4 Finale clip

This new clip via IGN picks up after the episode 9 (“The Inner Fight”) cliffhanger, showing Mariner facing off with  Nick Locarno (voiced by Voyager’s Robert Duncan McNeill) who was revealed to be the one behind the mystery ship story of the season.

Nova Squadron is back!

In the new clip, we learn that the mystery ship has a name: Nova One. In the TNG episode “The First Duty” Nick Locarno was the leader of the elite Nova Squadron at Starfleet Academy, which also included Wesley Crusher and Sito Jaxa. Episode 9 revealed that Mariner was close friends with Sito at the Academy, which explains why she also knows Locarno. In “The First Duty” Nick was expelled after one member of the squad was killed performing the banned Kolvoord Starburst maneuver. As explained in our easter egg analysis for episode 409 the emblem on Locarno’s jacket, and seen on the Klingon ship is a diagram of that banned maneuver.

In the above clip, you can see that emblem on the alien ships that have been disappearing all season and Nick reveals he has been recruiting them to join his new “Nova Fleet.”

I really think that’s V’Ger in the middle of the fleet.

waaaaaaay too small to be V-ger
those ships would be dots next to it

Well maybe the ships are close in the foreground and V’Ger very far away in the background…

I was thinking the same thing. It looks like the central node of whatever holographic projection technology was at play.

Right. Plus, the way that all the ships have been stolen all season has always reminded me of how V’Ger dematerialized the Klingon ships and Epsilon IX.

It would be hard to believe that Locarno’s tiny ship, even with its powerful beam, could possibly affect V’Ger in any way… but you never know.

There is no V’Ger anymore fwiw

Yes true.

Since no TV show or movie has ever said that, then Lower Decks is free to bring V’Ger back.

Son of V’Ger?

“Son of a V’Ger!” is now a new curse… phrase?

Waaaaaay too easy to steal starships in the Trek universe.

I know… they keep leaving the keys in the ignition.

To be fair as far as we’re aware, Nick built his ship himself, and all the other ships just got rid of their captain to work with him instead.

V’ger alive?! Holy ship!

Having seen the episode… WOW! :-)

I bet the Kolvoord Starburst maneuver plays a pivotal role in the resolution of the episode.
It’ll be Mariner vs Locarno, with him dying in the explosion while she is the only one that successfully pulls it off.

This is the closest Robbie McNeill gets to something he wanted to do: have Tom Paris to be the one to settle Locarno’s hash for him. Mariner is pretty much what Paris would be if he were Tawny Newsome and even more messed up than he already is.
