Podcast: All Access Boards The Protostar For Part 3 (Of 4) Of Our ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Season 2 Review

All Access Star Trek podcast episode 192 - TrekMovie - Star Trek: Prodigy episodes 111-115

[Review starts at  21:13]

Matt from The Shuttle Pod fills in for Laurie this week to cover the news with Anthony. We cover the latest award news, and speculate about the announced Star Trek collaborations, including the one with Doctor Who. There’s also a little casting update for Starfleet Academy and a story tidbit from the “Star Trek Origin Movie.”

Turning to Prodigy the guys discuss our latest interview with the Hageman brothers and roll a preview clip of Tony’s brand-new interview with Wil Wheaton. We then run Tony and Laurie’s previously recorded review of Prodigy season 2 episodes 11-15, discussing how the show takes a bit of a pivot in tone, and takes deeper dives into the characters, with some fun diversions along the way. But we still can’t figure out where the show stands on the whole J/C thing.

The podcast wraps up with a brief preview of STLV coming in the first week of August, which will include a TrekMovie.com panel.

Great, the Empire is restored and Terrans are not slaves of the Klingon/Cardassian alliance. I hope Mirror Janeway made an example of them. Long live the empire.🫡

Finally! Now we can talk about how everyone who works on this show is a troll! Say the quiet parts out loud, you big cowards. Though, to be fair, it may not be entirely their fault. On another note, I’m surprised how much of the Mirror Universe they were able to translate into a kid’s show.

So here’s my take on Janeway/Chakotay. I think after Voyager returned in Endgame, Janeway got promoted. We know that she fought for Seven’s inclusion into Starfleet, but lost in the end. I think Janeway had to also fight for the former Maquis who returned, including Chakotay. The effects of the Dominion War severely depleted the ranks of Starfleet, so the former Maquis were integrated into Starfleet without too much hassle.

I think that Janeway and Chakotay were both busy, her being an Admiral and him being a Captain. My guess is they tried to make something work, and there is a history there, but something that was short of a full-on relationship. I think they discovered that they couldn’t quite make it work, so Chakotay led the mission in the Protostar to return to the Delta Quadrant, giving them some space, but also not quite ending things either. Janeway obviously felt very driven to find Chakotay once the Protostar was lost, in part because of her obviously feelings for him.

Here’s where I think things might have gone a little sideways for them. As we saw in 211 and 212 of Prodigy, Chakotay ended up spending 10 years on that planet. Adreek and Holo Janeway were his only real companions. I do believe that in that time, Chakotay and Holo Janeway ended up in a full-on relationship. I mean, who wouldn’t in that situation? He believed that it was the closest he would ever get in his life to be in a relationship with Janeway.

He unexpectedly returns from his exile and meets up with the real Janeway, which he did not expect, and Holo Janeway is still there on the Protostar. That’s got to be super awkward for Chakotay. At some point, Chakotay, Janeway, and Holo Janeway got to have some sort of conversation, right?

Nice! Can’t wait to listen!
