The Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic Con is happening right now and Paramount+ just revealed a brand new clip from the upcoming fifth season of Star Trek: Lower Decks. We also got a brand new poster for the season that arrives on Thursday.
Cerritos x 2
The fifth and final season of the animated adult comedy Lower Decks premieres on Paramount+ with two episodes on Thursday, October 24. The Trek panel today at NYCC featured a conversation with voice cast members Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells and Eugene Cordero, alongside executive producer and showrunner Mike McMahan. The panel kicked off with a surprise, showing the entire first episode of season five for the audience at the Javits Center in New York.
This brand new clip released by Paramount+ comes from that premiere episode…
For a little context, here is the official season 5 synopsis which notes why they are on the hunt for space rifts…
In season five of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with closing “space potholes” – subspace rifts that are causing chaos in the Alpha Quadrant. Pothole duty would be easy for Jr. Officers Mariner, Boimler, Tendi and Rutherford … if they didn’t also have to deal with an Orion war, furious Klingons, diplomatic catastrophes, murder mysteries and scariest of all: their own career aspirations. This upcoming season on Paramount+ is a celebration of this underdog crew who are dangerously close to being promoted out of the lower decks and into strange new Starfleet roles.
Final frontier of season 5 posters
Today Paramount+ also released a new poster for the season, which carries on the tradition for the series with each season poster being an homage to the corresponding poster for the original Star Trek movies. This season 5 poster is a parody of the poster for the 1989 film Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. During the panel Mike McMahan noted how if you look closely you can see some elements of the upcoming season teased in this poster.
Earlier this week Paramount+ released a different season 5 poster, based on the teaser poster for Star Trek V.
The fifth and final season debuts with two episodes on Thursday, October 24 on Paramount+ in the U.S. and internationally. Following the premiere, new episodes of the 10-episode-long season will drop every Thursday on the service leading up to the series finale on Thursday, December 19.

Ha, I remember Mad Magazine’s take on the second poster back in 1989: “To keep people from leaving the theater!”
I love alternate universe stuff, so this already piques my interest. Would be cool if the alternate Cerritos also looked slightly different so we can have it as a model/playable vessel down the line.
Looks great! I’m always a sucker for alternative universe episodes. The season is almost here. Can’t wait!
It sucks that we may never see one based on Star Trek VI.
so sad…
I’m going to miss this show so much
OMG didn’t notice the TFF poster until now. Looks awesome!
We need a Lower Decks TV movie ASAP. It really shouldn’t cost too much I expect, some Strange New Worlds and Academy set redress.
Every storyline in this show, from what I’ve gleaned is a call-back or a parody of some other ST storyline, it seems.
