Last week we had a handful of new images and now, ahead of this Friday’s release of Star Trek: Section 31, Paramount has dropped a whole bunch of new ones that include posed publicity shots as well as more scenes from the streaming movie.
Section 31
In Section 31, Michelle Yeoh reprises her fan-favorite role of Emperor Philippa Georgiou—a character she played in Star Trek: Discovery—who joins a secret division of Starfleet. “Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past.” The streaming film also stars Omari Hardwick as Alok Sahar, the “mastermind” of the Section 31 team, Kacey Rohl as the younger Rachel Garrett, Sam Richardson as the Chameloid scientist Quasi, Robert Kazinsky as the mech suit-wearing Zeph, Sven Ruygrok as the (possibly) Vulcan or Romulan “Maniac” Fuzz, Humberly Gonzalez as the Deltan Melle, and Miku Martineau as young Philippa Georgiou.

Friday
Star Trek: Section 31 will premiere on Friday, January 24, 2025, on Paramount+ in the U.S. and international markets where the service is available. It will debut in SkyShowtime markets in Europe on February 7. TrekMovie is still trying to confirm releases in other international markets.
ICYMI, here is the official trailer released in December.
Keep up with news about the Star Trek Universe at TrekMovie.com.
When Discovery first came on, I noted that because it was a streaming series it could show things that previous Trek series on broadcast networks and syndication could only talk about in dialogue, such as naked Betazoid weddings.
In the context of this movie, it’ll be interesting to see just how far they go with Deltan sexuality.
Femme fatales are a staple of the spy genre (i.e., Anastasia Komananov), so good for them for including a Deltan in this movie.
Can you imagine if they had that kind of freedom when Gene was around and in charge?
He would have had fun, heh.
He tried in TNG in Justice, heh.
Which I still think of as ‘Planet of the Diaper people.’
Have you ever heard the story from Tracy Torme about being on the roof of the writer’s building at Paramount listening to GR go on about his greatest fantasy? I don’t think I’d even be allowed to repeat it here, but the funniest part isn’t GR expounding at length, but at how Torme was exploding inside trying to keep from erupting in laughter at the revelation.
I haven’t! lol.
It is in the book Fifty-Year Mission, isn’t? Soooo embarrassing…
Please repeat it
Would not be surprised. GR was cheating on the woman he was cheating on his wife with.
TOS would be totally different.
For sure.
Sometime they do. IIRC Picard S3 actually showed Worf Snapping someone’s neck and pretty roughly too. Something TNG or DS9 could never do.
For sure. The violence coefficient and use of swearing have certainly increased.
Nudity and the like, however, haven’t gotten there yet
This movie looks like it’s coming close with Deltans if they do not take an oath of celebacy.
I think that was only valid for the ones in Starfleet.
That would not help a spy.
True but I find it weird that Starfleet would ask them to do that.
I posted a response saying that poor Travis from Enterprise would appreciate it which quoted his dialogue about Deltans from Bound, but it was sent to moderation.
If they didn’t take an oath of celibacy in Starfleet they would go around sleeping with everyone which would be very disruptive in their roles as officers or crew as well as for their crewmates…
Unlike Orions like the one in the deleted scene in Abram’s reboot, heh. She took no vow, so it was okay for her to just hook up with Kirk, pheromones be damned, heh.
There was neck snapping in ds9
Like a rough one?
Worf snapped Weyoun 7’s neck while held captive by the Dominion in the episode “Strange Bedfellows”
hmmm, forgot that
eh, worf did just that to a weyoun clone in DS9.
I feel like they will stay PG-13 with Deltan sexuality. As much as I would like them to push the envelope and show a sexually liberated female of the future, the Star Trek show runners seem to go for the R only with respect to violence. It’s too bad, because sexual liberation is a value consistent with Star Trek’s progressive vision; however, extreme violence is not.
Absolutely.
I agree and in fact I don’t get why the modern Trek makers get so prudish about sexuality. Maybe they are afraid they are gonna offend some people. I would prefer sexuality to violence but then again I am European so our values tend to differ in these issues.
“Michelle Yeoh reprises her fan-favorite role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou ”
Is she a fan favorite role though? I admit I have no love for Discovery so maybe Im biased. I have aquentences that like Discovery but most seem to have only a mild liking of this character at best.
Yes. There are definitely fans of the Emperor.
Empress.
As of Monday, yes.
In a series where people say “Yes Sir” to their commanders regardless of gender, I think either one works. Why comment specifically to “correct” that, though?
It is grammatically incorrect and coming from a country that is a monarchy it is just plain disrespectful.
How can the mores of another culture be grammatically incorrect? And because you’re from a country that has a monarchy, that means another entirely-separate fictional country has to use your country’s grammar or else it’s disrespectful?! How high are you? That’s beyond entitled. Surely you’re trolling. Please consider finding a way of getting over yourself. Holy hell, mate.
None of this… none of it… has anything to do with you or your country. For you to think it even belonged in this conversation is kind of wild. I have to imagine you were just having a weird day or something.
She’s divisive. Judging by the boards here and elsewhere, it would seem a lot love her and a lot don’t.
She’s fab and I love her so much.
The previews for this continue pretty bad IMO. Key word being “look” though. I’ve seen plenty of great movies that “looked” awful beforehand. I’ll check my expectations at the door and go in with an open mind.
That’s what I figure, too. Trailers are meant to draw in the General Audience, not the people who are already sold. It almost never turns out how people fear based on trailers.
Wow! I think my favorite thing about this is how it looks nothing like Star Trek! I mean, if not for one of these characters having pointy ears, I woulda thought this was Star Wars, or Marvel! Which is just what I, as a Star Trek fan, want from my Star Trek, of course!
Strangely, this set of photos is the first time this production has actually looked like Star Trek to me.
Not being a dick or anything, but where? The one console that looks kinda like it’s from a Federation ship? They reuse, or emulate, that stuff in space movies all the time. I see other ship sets, but none of them are distinctly Trek at all. And the characters aren’t distinctly Trek, either. We recognize Deltans and Vulcans because we know this is Trek movie, not for any greater reason. I just don’t see it.
that scene of McCoy trying to hitch a ride to Genesis in Star Trek III.
That’s what it makes me think of, too. That and the bar on Qualor II from TNG: Unification.
Oh ya that one too
That seemed like a riff off Star Wars cantina though so still feeling more Star Wars than Star Trek.
Gives me vibes of Tron Legacy too…
Yeah, the mech guy looks like he belongs on a children’s lunchbox, not Star Trek. 100% the “cool” factor, although it actually looks stupid in the end. I’ll give it a fair chance though.
Those bar scenes actually look a lot like that scene of McCoy trying to hitch a ride to Genesis in Star Trek III.
GUardians of the Galaxy is what I bet they were going for,
Swords, face punching, bad assery. What’s not to like.
Looks like a Trek II style phaser Garrett is holding ..
Just realised the other day this is the first ‘prime’ universe movie since Nemesis (unless you count the post Nemesis 24th century Spock scenes in ST09)
I had the same thought.
Its interesting that they are only releasing two trailers for this before its airing. I guess they kinda saw the negative feedback the trailers were getting and didn’t want to release any more. Usually there has to be trailer and tv spot bombardments before airing. Of course I don’t live in US so maybe they did release it there that I am unaware of.
That’s not usually the case with direct-to-streaming movies. This isn’t heading to the theaters. Most direct-to-streaming films only get a couple of trailers. Even Netflix is limited on trailers, except for tentpole productions. Even then, I think only stuff like Stranger Things gets a full run of TV spots.
For all intents and purposes, this is nothing more than a made-for-TV movie. And even those didn’t get a whole lot of traction unless it was some big event like a mini-series.
World wide release on different dates? As if this thing wasn’t going to be pirated to oblivion already..
It just looks like some random sci-fi movie o the week. I’ll watch, because I love all things Star Trek, but there hasn’t been anything outside of the name Rachel Garrett or Emperor Georgiou that shows me that it IS Star Trek. Oh well, maybe it’s really good.
Honestly I am surprised they are not pushing Michelle Yeoh’s brand more.
Either the clothing replicators on Section 31 ships are set on “Gelareh Designs”, or that’s where they sourced Alok’s coat from.
I still think it would be awesome if somehow they squeezed in the idea that Georgiou is the descendant of Hoshi Sato.
Michelle is gorgeous. I’m eager to watch Section 31. :)
Fuzz, Dada, Quasi. That’s almost Star Wars level of silly names.
Reminds me of this vid https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lbLqiKg9JkA&t=10s
Loos like fun, I’m going to give it a fair shake and have fun with it. I’m a big fan of Olatunde so I know it will bey very watchable at the very least.
Ok, am I the only one who thinks women are more attractive with hair on their heads?
I just never understood GR’s reasoning to have the Deltans be bald. Here you had Persis Khambatta as Ilia in TMP, a Miss India and they shave off her beautiful hair! Why?
Ok, they want to show that she’s an alien, but you can change the skin color, the eyes, whatever, but why get rid of the hair?
rant over.
She would’ve looked amazing with hair in TMP, maybe couldve given her like crystal blue lenses to give her an otherworldly look instead
Some people are saying that this movie’s art direction doesn’t look particularly Trek-ish. To my eyes, the Deltan’s outfit is clearly an homage to William Ware Theiss.
