Star Trek has one more set of nominations for this year’s award season, this time for the costumes on two different series made in Canada.
Disco and SNW recognized for Canadian crafts
The Canadian Alliance for Film and Television Costume Arts in Design announced nominees for their 6th Annual CAFTCAD Awards. These awards honor “the astounding quality of talent that Canadian costume designers and artisans.” With the exception of Picard all the Paramount+ live-action Star Trek series have been produced in Ontario, Canada and the most recent seasons of Discovery and Strange New Worlds are being recognized for the 2025 awards. One or both Trek shows was nominated in all the categories they were eligible for.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was nominated for Costume Design in TV – Sci-Fi/Fantasy for the episode “Among The Lotus Eaters.” It is going up against Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Boys, and Dead Boy Detectives. The SNW nominees are: Costume Designer: Bernadette Croft, Supervisor: Karen Lee, Assistant Designers: Heather English, Sarah Goodwin, and Emily Jasper.
Star Trek: Discovery was nominated For Outstanding International Costume Design – Film & TV (which recognizes “international costume designers that are behind our favourite Canadian-made productions”) for the episode “Life, Itself.” It is going up against Fellow Travelers, Shōgun, The Spiderwick Chronicles, and Peter Pan and Wendy. Both Strange New Worlds (for season 2) and Discovery (for “Labyrinths”) were nominated for Excellence in Crafts Award – SPFX Building. The first season of Strange New Worlds won 3 CAFTCAD Awards. And the third season of Discovery also picked up 3 CAFTCAD Awards.
For 2025, the CAFTCAD Awards will be held Sunday March 2nd at the Eglinton Grand Theatre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

No doubt they’re both good-looking shows. Costumes and props have never been a problem with recent Trek.
Agreed. Although, the canon nerd in me wishes they’d kept The Cage/WNMHGB uniform colour scheme (no red) for Strange New Worlds.
