Review: Pop Culture Star Trek Coffees Are Flavorful And Fun

Pop Culture Star Trek Coffees review from TrekMovie

Truth be told, I am generally not a fan of flavored coffee, but when Pop Culture Coffee released 4 new branded Star Trek coffees, I couldn’t resist. Like Janeway, I can’t start the day without the “finest organic suspension ever devised,” and I live with others who feel the same, so we took on the reviewing task together. Specifically, we were sent the ground coffees; but each flavor is also available as whole bean if you prefer.

Separate from the coffee itself, the packaging on these is gorgeous. Striking designs that make you want to see them on your shelf, which makes them perfect for gift-giving.

Klingon Raktajino Butterscotch Coffee

This was pretty good. It’s a little bit acidic, but also rich at the same time; you can taste just the hint of butterscotch. The flavor isn’t over the top, but it does leave a very nice aftertaste. And it smells great while it’s brewing.

Federation Roast Macadamia Nut

Our least favorite in the bunch, probably because it was less robust than the others and had to be made really strong to be good. It was a lighter roast, and wasn’t as much to our taste.

Borg Blend Toffee Crunch

Dessert-y! The flavor was rich and a little bit salty, but in an intriguing way. It was a little decadent in the way a cappuccino is, so it’s perfect for a post-dinner or early evening treat.

Pop Culture Coffees - Borg Blend

Coffee, Black

This one’s a dark roast, so the first time I made it, I held back on the grounds-to-water ratio, which was a mistake. The second time, the coffee was just right—strong and robust as you’d expect. I don’t drink my coffee black (as I can only dream of being that cool one day), but with milk, this was satisfying and pure. Definitely the one Janeway beat the Borg with.

Where to get them

You can get these four blends, along with four other Star Trek-themed coffees on the Pop Culture Coffee website. They also have gift sets with matching mugs for each flavor. They have also more recently released a series of cold brews as well.

Because when I think Borg, I think toffee crunch. :)

I would have thought the Borg believe caffeine is irrelevant. :)

Just you try waking up to find you’ve been disconnected from the collective and see how you feel!

Maybe I should have typed “Just Hugh” not “Just you”

First we had Star Trek beers and now this.

Does Star Wars have coffee and beer?

Star Wars coffee exists, yes. Also Star Wars cereals and other food items.

And they’re just as stupid as Star Trek food items. :)

I can still taste Kellogg’s C-3POs (Not great: I think I managed a single bowl in 1984). “A new force for breakfast!”

Thanks, I think. : D

If nobody has marketed Corellian Ale, they are missing a sure thing.

And I’ve always wondered why they never opened a Jabba Juice, which would have been a good fit for STAR WARS LAND or whatever they called that thing they opened a few years back. (though I can think of a ew good reasons why they would think 2x about it, given the number of things that flew me my head about JABBA JUICE while writing the first part of this paragraph.)

I like adding the action figures to the coffee shots to spice things up, but I prefer the original Playmates Riker with the torn uniform and the boob-cupping hand.

Yes, but is there a cereal to go with it?

Laurie, it’s ok about you not drinking it without additives. Once you get the 4th pip, Federation regs: you can’t add anything to your on shift beverage. Hot only! Ps; great review!

Well of course! It’s programmed into the transporter when you beam on board to the ceremony for your first command/captaincy!
I read somewhere that it can be reversed if you tinker with the Heisenberg Compensators, but that would be a thing to talk to the Lower Decks about.

How was it brewed? What water ratio did you use? Was it all ground or any whole bean?

Figures not included?

What – no ractajino option? Typical.I have the mug. Now give me the beverage.

You guys post about the Trek themed distilled beverages from time to time. Some folks comment on buying them, but I have yet to see anybody actually comment on how they taste. 50 bucks or more is a bit pricey for a bottle of whiskey. I hope it doesn’t taste like rubbing alcohol (basically, Jack Daniels).

The whiskeys are mediocre. The wines are pretty bad.

there coffee for that merchandising…

Butterscotch? I was hoping for more of a fresh gaQ bouquet with a prune finish.
