In addition to these three who got character portraits, Paramount+ has announced Irish actor Cillian O’Sullivan has a recurring role in season 3 as Dr. Roger Korby (portrayed in Star Trek: The Original Series by Michael Strong). And at NYCC they announced that New Zealand actor and comedian Rhys Darby is a guest star in an unnamed role which co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers described as a “fun” character.

According to Paramount, for the new set of images photographer Pari Dukovic used a completely darkened room in order to accomplish this effect. From the release: “He used a standard digital projector mixed with strobe to amplify the actors skin and eyes with images of star nebulas and distant universes. The projections were different for each person and each actor reacted differently to it.”

Paramount+ is still saying that the third season of Strange New Worlds is coming “later this year,” but we don’t have an date just yet. Hopefully we get an announcement and maybe a trailer at Wondercon coming up at the end of the month.

It’s a pretty talented cast.

I am cautiously optimistic that they will have them do something other than be cutesy this season.

I had been starting to feel like the SNW Enterprise was a startup company with a “We’re All Family Here” theme.

I would like that too. But based on the clip from SDCC, I’m not going to get my hopes up.

Cringier than anything I’ve seen in seasons 1 or 2.

I heard Christina Chong speak at a Comic Con. The cast became very close because they filmed the first season under pandemic restrictions so they basically had to live together in real life.

Damn….that hair is immaculate.

All of it.

They should do a ‘bad hair day’ episode.

big swings, or should i say big wigs

:) :)

Posters are lovely but jeez, just announce a release date already Paramount!

They still need to replace Paul Wesley as Kirk.

No, they don’t.

I’m not sure this guy is Kirk, but I like who he is and I’m not interested in bringing in someone to ape Shatner.

That’s what was so great about Chris Pine.. he didn’t do that at all, and I still bought it. He has an X factor that works. Again..no disrespect to Paul Wesley.. just doesn’t hit.

They are..

With Shatner :)

Personally, I just wish they’d step away from Kirk and Spock in this era. We’ve had decades of stories with Shatner and Nimoy and you really can’t replace them.

I’m also pretty sure they specifically ask these actors not to act like Kirk out of fear of being made fun of for “going full Shatner”. If they don’t want the characters to act like Kirk, why bother? Chris Pine can do a brilliant job as Kirk… In the outtakes and Paul Dano is believable as Kirk… From a podcast I saw him in. Both of them seem to have been told specially not to act like Kirk – so stop bringing him back then!

To be clear though: I’d love to see Shatner back again! Just stop recasting him.

Well, they tried stepping away from that – it was called Discovery. And it was awful.

Yes, agree with this 100%. Been saying it from the start.

He was great in the Tomorrow, Tomorrow episode, great chemistry with Christina Chong, and he’s a terrific actor.. but at no point while watching him in any episode he’s in, do I think… ‘yeah, I’m watching a younger version of James T Kirk’

He’s grown on me. I see him as this show’s Kirk now and am fine with it. Shatner can’t be copied/replaced.

It’s sort of like Bond or Superman. Different actors can give their takes, but when I think of those characters, I think of the iconic actors who played them best (and usually first).

yes, shatner can’t be copied, but that’s fine. wesley grew to me. that was astonishing for me because in the first moment i wasn’t just disappointed, i was alienated. but he shows a very different kirk, who works well in snw. what would we gain from wesley being a copy of a copy of a copy??
better a new take on a character we’ll get to know all over again in this way.

Superman will always be Christopher Reeve to me but the difference there is that he was not the first. The first Bond was of course Sean Connery. Every generation has it’s own Bond. The difference with Kirk is that for decades across TV, Movies, Shatner’s own books, Audion books, etc… Shatner WAS Kirk. Replacing him was realy an impossible task. So much so that the only way it worked for ST 2009 was to put it in a different universe and to put Leonard Nimoy in there to give it some credibility. This being the “Prime” universe (which I am not convinced it is) gives Wesley no credibility to me whatsoever.

Yes, the actor was the archetype, which makes it even more difficult. BUT… they tapped into that with Chris Pine without resorting to mimicry. So it can be done. Just doesn’t work for me with Wesley.

While that’s true, I sort of put it in the same vein as Cumberbatch as Khan. It’s not that Wesley is sitting back and doing nothing to make it work, but at some point, you just have to admit no matter what they make the character do, it just doesn’t get there. No one is suggesting that imitation should factor in. That’s a HUGE mistake… Again.. no shade on Paul Wesley here, just as I don’t fault Cumberbatch. They’re doing something completely different and yet, with some relation to the character they’re playing.

Agreed. Terrible casting.

Ortagas has a character portrait – that’s great! Can she have an episode centered on her now? She’s had her moments, but out of the cast, she’s the the least fleshed out. She’s presumably the best pilot in the fleet and aside from a custom manoeuvre or two, she has yet to really prove her skill.

yeah, ortegas needs way more screen time. and a backstory.

These posters are looking great. I can’t wait for the third season to premiere.

Yes! I love the projector effect they used!

It all looks great. Can’t wait.

The fact they went to the effort of doing Captain Batel poster means the character must survive her xenomorph, er, Gorn, impregnation this season…

Pike’s hair looks more extreme than ever before. They really need to tone that down.. looks terrible.

I’ve been giving SNW another chance. I’m only in S1 Ep2. Since it’s an alternative universe, I now view the show without the baggage of canon and I’m trying to explore these characters differently. I like it so far. Maybe I can get excited for a S3.

Not an alternate universe apparently.

It’s not. This is the traditional prime universe we’ve seen for 58 years.

A little late to the party but I thought the “Tomorrow, Tomorrow” episode confirmed that the Prime Universe has been “adjusted” with Time “Re-inserting” itself. My issue is that Goldsman and Meyers seem to tip toe around the idea that they basically rebooted the Prime Universe.

I think the “reboot” began with Enterprise and the concept of the Temporal Cold War. You could also argue that the 09 film and I am cool with it. A lot of people hate it. Star Trek is over 50 plus years old. The original series does not fit in our current modern framework. Rebooting it and fleshing out the canon made perfect sense. I think they should have told the audience what they were doing.

As other replied, it isn’t an alternate universe…but in my head canon it is (it allows me to enjoy it more and I think that’s fine!)

Same here.

I certainly do same when it comes to Discovery as it’s the only way I can make any sense of what for me was a disappointing series.

Sorry but Paul Wesley looks NOTHING like Kirk. Same with act or vibe. In fact, he looks more like Pike here. I wish they didn’t try shoehorning Kirk into this show. I didn’t want another prequel in the first place, as wanted the franchise to move forward and continue into the 25th Century. But at least let the new characters enjoy their own show. But nope, here’s Scotty! Here’s Uhura! Here’s Kirk! Pathetic.

Pathetic is the word for it. Unbelievable that in this day and age, with a universe as monumental and expansive as Star Trek, the writers are only interested in callbacks and references. And when they do try to do something new – lord help us. Even that offensive drivel that was S31 still stuffed in a bunch of useless references.

batel will survive!! gosh. happy now.
these posters look swell. other than discovery i really like each single character of snw. love that series.

I’m looking forward to this, I wonder how they will resolve Captain Batel’s issue and the overall cliffhanger…

C’mon with the hair already. Like everything else in fandom, opinions are mixed, but the show is getting further and further away from the character in The Cage. The argument for why makes sense, like Pike is aware of his future and is a changed man, but the hair?? Sorry, not buying it.

Honestly so true, the hair is the most ridiculous part of this ridiculous show

Nice!
Now I would like to have a release date.

I just noticed that Pike’s photo seems to show the injuries he had in “The Menagerie.”

Pike desperately needs a new hair style unless he’s a stand in band member for a Flock Of Seagulls?

I really love these posters. I really don’t like this show. Still just enjoying my 60s-00s reruns :)

Yes, I said on another thread the other day, SNW has no replay value for me. (I’ve actually enjoyed some replays of PRO episodes more). Maybe I’ll try again someday, but like you I continue stick to the classics.

Wesley looks most like Kirk in this poster. He’s grown on me. I’d like to see Wesley as Kirk on the Enterprise in post-TAS stories, ending with his promotion to Admiral.
