Sci-Fi TV Sunday: Ashes to Ashes, Chuck, FlashForward, Lost, V + more [UPDATE: SGU and Sanctuary Renewed]

In Sci-Fi TV this week, we have news on ABC cutting one episode from both FlashForward and V, including comments from Robert J. Sawyer and David S. Goyer on the extended hiatus. We’ve also got some new details on the Lost season six premiere and the upcoming third season of Chuck plus new time-travel and werewolf-themed series in development at CBS and Fox, respectively. All that and more, including a look at The Phantom (Syfy) and the latest television ratings, casting bites, images and videos. Last night was the world premiere of James Cameron’s new sci-fi epic Avatar. Star Trek’s new Uhura Zoe Saldana continues her 2009 genre domination as playing the alien Neytiri. Shatner: Star Trek Movie “Wonderful” + Talks Star Trek Sequel

Last night Bill Shatner was on Jimmy Kimmel Live, promoting his show Raw Nerve, but things swung around to discussion of Star Trek. Bill said he thought the Star Trek movie was "wonderful", implying he finally saw it, and revealed he and JJ Abrams recently had lunch. However, he said he didn’t know if he would be in the sequel. Is Star Trek-like Time Travel/Alternative Universes The New Thing For Genre TV?

[Spoilers] Is it just me, or is Star Trek-like time travel the new thing for TV? Just a few years ago dealing with hard sci-fi topics was taboo in TV, but these days you can’t throw a rock in prime time, without it jumping into a parallel universe. The latest example came last night in FlashForward, a show co-created by TNG era vet Brannon Braga that also includes Star Trek’s John Cho in the cast.
