This week the Library Computer reviews the second Deep Space Nine novel in a row from Pocket Books, Una McCormack’s “The Never Ending Sacrifice”. This isn’t the first Star Trek novel to find a genesis in an episode of one of the series, but it certainly isn’t like any Star Trek novel that has ever come before.

Karl Urban is going from Bones to Bloodsucker as he has just been cast as the villain in Screen Gem’s post-apocalyptic horror thriller Priest, where he will be playing the leader of a band of vampires. Details below, plus some video of Karl doing a hip hop dare, all in the name of charity.
IDW, the publishers of Star Trek comics, are headed back the the 24th century with a new Next Generation mini-series starting in November. "Star Trek: Ghosts" will be set during the run TNG and brings a new writer and artist. We have details on that below, along with all the other details for IDW’s Star Trek plans for November.
Star Trek’s origininal Sulu, George Takei, is in Philladelphia today, promoting an event at the Star Trek: The Exhibition at the Franklin Institute, and he appeared on a local morning show to talk Trek history. While there, they ended up quizzing him on Star Trek sound effects, see the video below to find out how he did.
Usually we wait until our weekend sci-fi wrapups for new genre trailers, but this morning was the highly anticipated debut of the teaser trailer for what is being touted as a ‘game changing’ new 3D sci-fi movie, Avatar from James Cameron (The Terminator, Titantic, Aliens). The film features Star Trek’s Zoe Saldana, who plays a CGI created character.
Another day and another accolade for a member of the new Star Trek team. This Friday Star Trek co-writer Roberto Orci is being honored by the Imagen Foundation at their 23rd annual awards honoring contributions of Latinos to the entertainment industry. This week Cryptic went all the way to Germany to show off their upcoming MMORPG, Star Trek Online. While there they showed off a promotional video of the game showing space and ground footage. Video shot off screen from that is now online, check it out below. Interestingly. the famed (and legally controversial) Guardian of Forever is featured in the video.
Today August 19th is a special day for Star Trek, as it is the birthday for Jonathan Frakes. Star Trek The Next Generation’s Cmdr. William Riker is 57 years young. Today would also have been the 88th birthday of the Great Bird of the Galaxy himself, Gene Roddenberry.
Last weekend was the big Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, which was my third time. I had a lot of fun, but a big highlight was on the last night when Anthony from TrekMovie arranged for me to interview Jacob Kogan (on video). Star Trek composer Michael Giacchino is again being recognized for his talents, this time by the World Soundtrack Academy which has just announced their nominees for for their annual Soundtrack Awards. Giacchino has been nominated for Composer of the Year, for his work on Star Trek and other films.

The Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas came to an end on Sunday, with the biggest stars of the original Kirk and Spock (William Shatner & Leonard Nimoy. plus the new new Spocks (Zachary Quinto and Jacob Kogan).
