Last weekend two lucky Star Trek fans got to have their wedding in the Final Frontier. Brad Siegel and Kate Erwin, winners of a contest held by the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, got married on Sunday on a replica of the USS Enterprise D bridge at Star Trek The Exhibition. The couple has sent TrekMovie a special video telling their story from a proposal at a convention to the wedding itself.
One of the more dramatic moments from the Star Trek movie was when the USS Enterprise rises from the clouds of Saturn’s moon Titan. This scene was actually suggested by the science advisor Carolyn Porco, who also leads the imaging science team for NASA’s Cassini mission to Saturn. Now Paramount has given Porco a couple of beautiful high res images of that scene for her website.

Star Trek DAC, the downloadable arcade shooter ‘inspired by’ the new Star Trek movie was released on XBox Live in May, and now Paramount has finally announced the date (November) and details (new features and ships) for the PC and Playstation Network versions. It was 43 years ago today when Star Trek was born, or at least when it aired its first episode on NBC. Since that time Star Trek has been through a lot with ups and downs along the way. Today we take a trip down memory lane, counting the years since Star Trek was new.
In addition to Shatner and Nimoy, there were more big Star Trek stars at DragonCon 2009 in Atlanta. One of the more notable was a rare appearance by TNG’s Patrick Stewart. Also on hand was Voyager’s Kate Mulgrew. We have summaries of reports of their appearances plus video of both below .
JJ Abrams Star Trek movie comes out on Blu-ray and DVD on November 17th. In July Paramount released the full details on the releases and around Comic Con they released a teaser trailer with some mock up box art, but today they released the final box art for the three sets. This morning DragonCon kicked off in Altanta, and the first event in the impressive Star Trek schedule was an appearance by the original Kirk and Spock, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. Reports are coming in apparently the new Star Trek movie was the focus for the pair speaking to a crowd of over 2000. We have a summary and some video below.
Star Trek’s new Spock, Zachary Quinto, just released a new comedy short film online at FunnyOrDie.com. Called "Hostage: A Love Story", Zach stars as a gunman who takes a hostage, only to have her take his heart. Watch it below.
In May JJ Abrams Star Trek movie opened for a limited run at IMAX theaters around the world, setting IMAX records. However the film was out of most IMAX theaters after a few weeks to make room for Night at the Museum. If you missed it you have another chance as IMAX just announced a second limited run of Star Trek at select theaters, starting this weekend. [UPDATED: Theater list updated with additional locations]
Later this month The Art Directors Guild will be honoring the designers of the final frontier at their "Star Trek: 45: Years of Designing the Future" event in Hollywood. On hand will be veterans of Trek design including Herman Zimmerman as well as Star Trek 2009’s Scott Chambliss. They will be showing clips as well as the Director’s Edition of ST: The Motion Picture. Our friend Daren Dochterman will be moderating the panel.
The big event for Star Trek books this Fall will finally delve into a major point in Federation history. The trade paperback of Michael A. Martin’s "Star Trek: Enterprise – The Romulan War: Beneath The Raptor’s Wing" comes out in October and TrekMovie has an exclusive excerpt below.

Karl Urban is going from Bones to Bloodsucker as he has just been cast as the villain in Screen Gem’s post-apocalyptic horror thriller Priest, where he will be playing the leader of a band of vampires. Details below, plus some video of Karl doing a hip hop dare, all in the name of charity.
Usually we wait until our weekend sci-fi wrapups for new genre trailers, but this morning was the highly anticipated debut of the teaser trailer for what is being touted as a ‘game changing’ new 3D sci-fi movie, Avatar from James Cameron (The Terminator, Titantic, Aliens). The film features Star Trek’s Zoe Saldana, who plays a CGI created character.
Today August 19th is a special day for Star Trek, as it is the birthday for Jonathan Frakes. Star Trek The Next Generation’s Cmdr. William Riker is 57 years young. Today would also have been the 88th birthday of the Great Bird of the Galaxy himself, Gene Roddenberry.

Star Trek scribes Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman have another sequel update from the TCA event this week (promoting Fringe). On Friday we previewed the upcoming ‘Q’ comic book from IDW, which prompted many fans to talk about the beloved character, including some who want to see more. But there is one person who seems to have had enough of TNG’s omnipotent troublemaker. In a new interview with John De Lancie, the actor says he is ‘tired’ of Q.
