In the past Karl Urban has shown his Trek cred by talking about his respect for the Original Series and his predecessor, DeForest Kelley. In a new interview with SFX Magazine, Star Trek’s new Dr. McCoy talks about favorite episodes ("Corbomite Maneuver" and "Amok Time"), the appeal of the film to fans like himself, as well as that crucial Kirk/Spock/McCoy dynamic.
Clifton Collins Jr., who plays General Ayel, the right hand to Eric Bana’s Nero in the new Star Trek says that new film is for the fans: "We’re serving the people who are completely enamored with Star Trek." The new Trek bad also talked to Creators.com about Trek ‘cheese’ and his (and Bana’s) role in Star Trek .
Although JJ Abrams was at the Television Critics Association event this week to promote his new Fox TV show Fringe, he sure took a lot of questions about Star Trek. In the latest, the director gives Hollywood Outbreak an update on the status of the post-production and also talks about the performances of his new Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto).
Yesterday at the Fox’s animation panel during the 2008 Television Critics Association confab, Family Guy creator (and well known Star Trek fan) Seth MacFarlane told reporters he would like to create a Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan parody similar to the Family Guy parody of Star Wars from 2007. TrekMovie thinks this is a great idea and thought we would lend a hand.
Today Patrick Stewart turned 68, and he is still going strong. TNG’s Picard recently finished his Tony-nominated Broadway run in Macbeth and is now preparing for Hamlet where he will play Claudius across from David Tennent (Doctor Who) as Hamlet. On July 1st 1867 the British colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada joined together to form a ‘Federation’ and Canadians celebrate this day as a national holiday commemorating the ‘birth’ of Canada. Canada was mentioned a few times on Star Trek, but its greatest contribution is as the real-life birthplace of many Trek stars, including three series regulars.
Star Trek: The Exhibit premiered this weekend at the Air and Space Museum in San Diego, California. About 1,000 people visited The Exhibition on opening day Saturday, including local Fan clubs (and local Klingons). We have photos of the opening below, plus video of the local news coverage.

On Sunday night both of Trek’s most famous captains could be seen on TV award shows. Stewart was a nominee at the live broadcast on CBS of the Tony Awards (he lost…awww), and William Shatner was seen presenting an award at a taped broadcast of the TV Land Land Awards (um…on TV Land). Dorothy Fontana (aka D.C. Fontana) has been penning Star Trek for over forty years. It was June 11, 1999, that DeForest Kelley passed away. As the first loss of the main Original Series cast, Kelley’s death showed us that Star Trek (and its fans) was aging. Yet, DeForest Kelley’s legacy continues to inspire fans, actors and medical professionals to this day. Today, we celebrate his contributions to acting, animal rights, volunteerism, and being a role model for many with a series of personal memories.

Just last weekend we had Leonard Nimoy looking back with NPR and discussing the character of Spock. Now we have William Shatner talking Kirk with the AP. The original Kirk, who is known to not like to watch himself, actually sat down to watch an episode of Star Trek The Original Series, and tells AP “from my perspective of 40 years later, and I thought, ‘You know, that’s rather good.’”
Faran Tahir can be seen as one of the main villains in this summer’s hit Iron Man, but next May he will be playing Capt. Robau in JJ Abrams Star Trek. Tahir talked to Comic Book Resources about Iron Man and Trek and noted that he sees his ‘heroic’ Trek role as a “great change of gears.” He also talked about director JJ Abrams approach and the Orci/Kurtzman script.

It appears that William Shatner’s media tour for his autobiography “Up Till Now” may never end.
