CBS have announced the winners of the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds writing contest. The 10 Grand Prize winners, chosen from hundreds of submissions, will each receive a $1000 prize, and their stories will be included in the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 2016 Edition Anthology, to be published in digital first format this year. The two First Prize winners will each receive a free publishing package from Archway Publishing valued at approximately $5,000 to publish a book on a subject other than Star Trek.

There’s a few bits of Star Trek-related award news today. First up the original Star Trek series was nominated (again) for a Television Critics Association Award, as was William Shatner. And Bill won an award for his latest audio book, as did Wil Wheaton. And new Star Trek movie star Benedict Cumberbatch picked up another award nomination.
Yesterday brought good awards news for two actors working on the Star Trek sequel. First up Benedict Cumberbatch won an acting award for his work on the UK stage in the play Frankenstein. Plus Zachary Quinto’s first film as a producer picked up an Oscar nomination for writing. Star Trek VI’s Christopher Plummer also picked up an Oscar nomination. The theatrical release of JJ Abrams 2009 Star Trek movie did well with the critics and now the home video release has followed suit, winning the top title at the DVD Critics Awards. There is also news that Star Trek may be available soon for Netflix HD streaming.
