The Watch was busy watching celebs instead of the clock, so it’s a bit late. Anyway, this week we have Shat making a top celebrity spokesmen list, a new play for Avery Brooks, Takei going to Red Alert 3, an injured Wil Wheaton being named a major internet influence, and more. Oh, and sad news: Simon Pegg is not a Bastard. Read below to see what I mean.
The Sci-Fi Channel series Stargate Atlantis, which added Star Trek Voyager’s Robert Picardo as a series regular this season and features recurring roles for a number of other Trek alumni, will end its run after the current fifth season ends next January. But it isn’t all bad news for the SGA team as they will be back in a direct-to-DVD movie.
About a month ago we reported that A&E Networks had picked up William Shatner’s new talk show Raw Nerve and it would premiere August 19th (today) on the Bio Channel. Fans have been asking about the show and so TrekMovie checked in with A&E. Don’t worry the show is still coming, but will now be in December. We have an exclusive first image and more details below.
Last week we told fans that William Shatner, Star Trek’s first Captain Kirk, was holding an online autographing event at LiveAutographs.com. The event was held last Wednesday and some of the personalized videos from the event, including ones for TrekMovie.com editors, are now online.

Over the weekend a SpaceX rocket that was carrying ashes from the late James Doohan failed to reach orbit. This was not the first attempt at this for the Doohan family or SpaceX and there is likely to be another try to send the original Scotty into the final frontier. The nominees for the 2008 Emmy Awards were announced this morning and there are a few Trek alumni on the list with William Shatner at the top of that list. Other Trek alums include Ronald D. Moore, Bryan Fuller, Gary Hutzel, Doug Drexler, and Sarah Silverman. Also Star Trek’s new masters picked up some nods for Lost. Full details below.
Today Patrick Stewart turned 68, and he is still going strong. TNG’s Picard recently finished his Tony-nominated Broadway run in Macbeth and is now preparing for Hamlet where he will play Claudius across from David Tennent (Doctor Who) as Hamlet. Scott Bakula has joined the cast of the new TNT drama Men of a Certain Age, which will be his first time as a TV series regular since the cancellation of Star Trek Enterprise in 2005. Bakula will play Terry, a handsome, intelligent but struggling-to-make-it actor, opposite Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street).

Exit Patrick Stewart and enter Kate Mulgrew, look out New York another Star Trek captain is headed to Broadway. Today it was announced that Kate Mulgrew (Voyager – Capt. Janeway) has been cast in the Broadway revival of Equus which starts its 22 week run in September. Mulgrew is the first American cast for the US run, joining Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter series) and Richard Griffiths (History Boys) who are reprising their roles from the London run of the play.

Today was the first day for California to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples and George Takei, along with his partner Brad Altman, were literally the first in line to pick one up for their September wedding. This week there is a lot of new project news coming from producers who have worked on Trek. Star Trek director/producer JJ Abrams has bought the rights to make a movie about a ‘mysterious’ apartment. Voyager writer/producer Kenneth Biller has signed on to be the showrunner on a new fantasy TV series with Enterprise writer/producer Mike Sussman in talks to help out. And TNG/DS9 writer/producer Hans Beimler’s new show premiered last night.
On Sunday night both of Trek’s most famous captains could be seen on TV award shows. Stewart was a nominee at the live broadcast on CBS of the Tony Awards (he lost…awww), and William Shatner was seen presenting an award at a taped broadcast of the TV Land Land Awards (um…on TV Land). A couple of weeks ago TrekMovie first reported that George Takei and his long-time partner Brad Altman were engaged to be married. Now People Magazine is reporting that Takei and Altman have set a date and picked a location, plus Takei is bringing on board his former Trek co-stars to join in on the day.
TrekMovie.com is sad to announce that another member of the original Star Trek family has passed away. Robert Justman, a producer on both Star Trek The Original Series and Star Trek The Next Generation died at his home in Los Angeles Wednesday from complications due to Parkinson’s disease; Justman was 81.

Alexander Courage, who wrote the original Star Trek title theme as well as the scores for numerous television shows and movies, died May 15 in Pacific Palisades, California at the age of 88. The Emmy winning and Oscar-nominated composer had over 90 film and television credits and at least one other TV theme (Judd for the Defense), but he was best known for the exotic, bongo-driven siren song he wrote for the original Star Trek TV series.
