At the Comic-Con IDW panel this week, Tim Jones and Mike Johnson talked a bit about their two follow-up comic books to “Star Trek Countdown,” but nothing we hadn’t already covered here. Orci Talks (Again) About Linking Next Two Star Trek Movies + Saldana Says Script ‘Half Done’

All indications from Paramount over the last few months have shown they are anxious to keep the ball rolling with the Trek franchise and get another movie out ASAP. Now it appears they planning for the long term and want the creative team to be thinking two steps ahead. The latest news comes from a comment from Bob Orci at Comic Con. Also at Comic-Con, Zoe Saldana says the next Star Trek script is ‘half done.’


Paramount First To Pass $1 Bil. in 2009 – Studio Chief ‘Excited’ For Future Trek (& Transformers)

Just like last year, Paramount Pictures is again the first studio to pass the $1 Billion mark in domestic ticket sales, and over half of that is due to two films, Star Trek, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Paramount has released a statement about the event, which cites both films as well as acknowledging how they will play into the future of the studio.   



SyFy Wants A New Space Opera – Should It Be A New Star Trek TV Series?

Yesterday, to much fanfare, the SciFi Channel changed its name to SyFy. Many took this as an attempt to distance itself from ‘real science fiction’ but yesterday network executives were on the record saying they are actually looking for a new ‘space opera’ to fill the void left by Battlestar Galactica and Farscape. TrekMovie wonders, why not a new Star Trek TV show?

JJ Abrams Presents Leonard Nimoy With Lifetime Achievement Saturn Award & Talks Trek Sequel

Last night the 35th annual Saturn Awards were held in Los Angeles honoring the world of science fiction. The big winner of the night was The Dark Knight, with Star Trek eligible for next year’s awards. But Trek was still there as Leonard Nimoy was given a lifetime achievement award, presented by JJ Abrams, who also made some comments about the next Star Trek film.

Abrams: Jack Black NOT In Talks For Harry Mudd For Star Trek Sequel

The Star Trek movie is still in theaters, but it appears that the casting rumor mill for the sequel is just starting to gear up. The latest seems to be Jack Black as Harry Mudd with word that he was having meetings with the Abrams team. JJ Abrams addressed this rumor directly by telling AICN that he had indeed met with Black, but not for Mudd, details below.

Star Trek Invades MTV Movie Awards + Pine (Jokes?) About Khan In Sequel [UPDATED]

The annual MTV Movie Awards was held tonight in LA, and even though the new Star Trek movie wont be eligible until next year, the film still made its presence known. Star Trek appeared in a couple of skits, Chris Pine presented an award, even JJ Abrams made a cameo (on keyboards!). Viacom Chairman: Star Trek ‘So Important’ For Paramount’s Future + Box Office Update

Even before Star Trek hit theaters, Viacom’s Paramount inked deals with the filmmakers to prepare a sequel. BREAKING: Paramount Moving Forward On Star Trek Sequel – Supreme Court On Board

First hinted at here at TrekMovie last June, Paramount have finally sealed the deal for the Trek’s ‘Supreme Court’ (Abrams, Burk, Kurtzman, Lindelof, & Orci) to move forward on a sequel to their new Star Trek, five weeks before it even opens up.
