After the no-show of a new Star Trek trailer at CinemaCon this week, it was discovered that Paramount was saving up for something bigger – a fan event, the first of its kind, to be held in Los Angeles in May. Details of the event have now surfaced.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Idris Elba spoke about his upcoming role as the villain in Star Trek Beyond and gave a puzzling statement about how his character and Chris Pine’s Kirk will interact. He also revealed that his favorite all-time Star Trek character is Captain Kirk.
Looks like there might be a very cool reason why there wasn’t any new Star Trek Beyond footage on Monday.
Simon Pegg spoke to reporters at CinemaCon Monday night about the tone of Star Trek Beyond, how it will create its own stories and canon while still fitting into the franchise’s 50 year history, and how the story’s villain, played by Idris Elba, will be ostentatious and interesting. Pegg also noted that Beyond won’t be a rehash of Star Trek’s “greatest hits” moments but will instead focus on original story telling.

After weeks of speculation and rumor, today it was announced that the first trailer for the next installment of the Star Trek franchise will bow on December 18.
Paramount Pictures, Skydance, Bad Robot and IMAX announced today that Star Trek Beyond will be released in IMAX on the same day that it his traditional screens: July 22nd, 2016.

Star Trek Beyond is in the midst of its location shooting in Dubai, and video has been posted online that gives us a glimpse at one of the film’s outdoor shoots.

It’s official: filming has begun in Dubai for Star Trek Beyond, and there are some (rather unrevealing) photos of a helicopter shoot floating around the web. Don’t get too excited; this is reportedly a second unit shoot, meaning the actors wouldn’t have been present, and there are no interesting sets, costumes, or anything really to see. These photos and video are of so little substance, we can’t even see a reason to throw a spoiler tag on this one.
