Star Trek Into Darkness Gets Super Bowl Spot + App Delivers Bonus Content During Game (& Beyond) [UPDATED]

Tonight Paramount announced they will be releasing a new augmented reality app tied to the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness movie. The new mobile application will use ‘context awareness’ to deliver bonus movie content with the first opportunity coming during the (also just announced) Super Bowl commercial for Into Darkness. Russian Fans Revolt Over Title Translation of Star Trek Into Darkness – Distributor Responds

Two weeks ago TrekMovie reported that in Russia the local distributor chose an alternative title for Star Trek Into Darkness. The title (translated as "Star Trek: Vengeance") was one of those tested for the film but lost out to "Into Darkness" everywhere but Russia. Since the announcement some Trek fans in Russia have tried to get the decision changed and yesterday they even got a meeting with the Russian distributor. Will Star Wars Episode VII announcement hurt Star Trek Into Darkness marketing rollout?

Disney announced on Monday its purchase of Lucasfilm, and with Lucasfilm comes Star Wars. Disney’s also said that a new Star Wars trilogy will be made. Paramount Promotes “Star Trek 2” At Licensing Expo – But Just Working Title

As we reported recently Paramount and CBS are in New York this week at the Licensing Expo to cut deals on their various properties, including the upcoming Star Trek sequel. A new promotional image for Paramount is being shown at the Licensing Expo which touts "Star Trek 2," but that doesn’t mean Paramount has already settled on the name.




CBS Relaunching StarTrek.com This Summer — Site To Showcase TrekMovie.com

Since late 2007 www.startrek.com, the official site for the Star Trek franchise, has been mostly dormant. But that is about to change. This summer CBS is relaunching the site with a new look and new features. The new site will also showcase fan sites, including TrekMovie.com. More details below.


Flashback: Super Bowl 2009 Brings Star Trek to the masses

Today is Super Bowl XLIV, which marks the one year anniversary of a seminal Trek event, the first ever Super Bowl commercial for a Trek film. Last year’s Star Trek Super Bowl commercial was a sort of ‘coming out’ for the Star Trek film to the mainstream. Star Trek picks up 5 Critics Choice Nominations + Boston Critics Win [UPDATED]

The Awards Season has been heating up in recent days with a number of critics groups announcing awards or nominations. JJ Abrams Star Trek movie has been getting some notice, including five nominations today from the Broadcast Film Critics Association. Star Trek One Of Paramount’s Films For Award Season Consideration

JJ Abrams Star Trek has been doing well with the ‘popularity contest’ type of awards (Scream Awards & Hollywood Awards), but now it is time to get serious. With the end of the year comes the beginning for awards season. This is now being kicked off by the "For Your Consideration" promotional campaigns from the studios. For 2009, Paramount has around 20 eligible films, and they have selected four for their awards campaign, including JJ Abrams Star Trek.

The mysterious video has been sweeping around web since, and today there is a new video live-action video from the same source which shows the Klingon plot may be even more insidious. Viral Video Leads To ‘Klingon Empire’ Website

The Klingons were created in the 60s to be the Star Trek stand-ins for the Cold War ‘Red Menace’. This week an impressive new video was uploaded to YouTube titled ‘Klingon Propaganda’, which runs with the notion by creating a motivational cartoon from the Klingon perspective in the style of 20th century Communist Propaganda. And it is so well-made, it raises the question as to whether or not it is ‘Fan Made’ or something more.

Star Trek Finishes Theatrical Run With $385M – Full Box Office Analysis

After a long life of 21 weeks in theaters, JJ Abrams new Star Trek movie has officially ended its run. The film is still in a handful of theaters (including some IMAX), but distributors will no longer be tracking performance. The final tally, as of last Thursday, brings the film a few thousand short of $385 Million world-wide, which is certainly a big success, especially for a franchise that was given up for dead by some just a few years ago. Nokia Star Trek Site Offers Tour of Romulan Narada

It turns out that phone maker Nokia, one of Paramount’s Star Trek marketing partners who are already part of the Verizon Trek site, has their own Star Trek site (nokia.com/startrek) , which is themed around the Romulan Narada ship from the movie. Nothing really new at the site, but it does give you a good view of the interior of the Narada, details below. .



Check Out The Star Trek Promotional Partner Commercials – Including BK Spot Shot On Real Bridge

A big part of the TV promotion for the new Star Trek movie is not coming from Paramount, but is coming from their promotional partners Burger King, Verizon and Esurance. In the last week both BK and Verizon have put up new TV ads, including a BK ad shot on the real bridge of the USS Enterprise. We have all the Star Trek promo ads below.
