EXCLUSIVE: Interview with JJ Abrams

Back in 2006 JJ Abrams ignited a bidding war between Hollywood studios for his next contract. In the end he went with Paramount and when he had the pick of projects, he chose the task of reviving Star Trek. In our exclusive interview with the director we get JJ to talk about some of the big decisions he made along the way to make this film, including what he cut. We also talk about William Shatner, and may be breaking some news. [interview contains MAJOR SPOILERS]



JJ Abrams Talks Working With Nimoy on Star Trek and Fringe at Paley Fest Fringe Event

Back home from his global tour promoting Star Trek, JJ Abrams came to the Paley Festival in LA tonight to talk about his TV show Fringe, and he brought along his fellow Star Trek/Fringe team of Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Bryan Burk, along with show stars Anna Torv, John Noble and Joshua Jackson. One of the subjects of the Q&A was Leonard Nimoy. [FRINGE spoilers below]


Abrams, Orci & Kurtzman Talk Plot In Star Trek Issue Of Geek Magazine

Another magazine devoting its May cover to the new Star Trek is Geek Monthly. The issue contains a number of in-depth interviews and special features all about Star Trek — past, present, and future. JJ Abrams Guest-Edited WIRED Mag Preview – w/ Star Trek Mini-comic

The nice people at Wired Magazine sent TrekMovie their May issue which has a very special ‘guest editor’…the director of the new Star Trek movie, JJ Abrams. The issue is filled with the stuff JJ loves, especially mysterious puzzles. Abrams also writes an essay about mysteries and spoilers. The new issue of SciFiNow magazine (#27), going on sale this week in the UK, has an extensive feature all about the new Star Trek movie, complete with interviews from most of the main cast and many of the filmmakers and crew. Access Hollywood chatted to the pair about what it is like to work together on Fringe and Trek, how it felt for Trek to be completed (which Abrams confirmed), and their anticipation of fan reaction to Star Trek. Pro-Abrams/Trek Paramount CEO Contract Extended + Hollywood Vet Predicts ‘Star Trek’ Blockbuster

Today it was announced that Paramount CEO Brad Grey’s contract has been extended until 2014. One of Grey’s first actions after joining Paramount in 2005 was signing JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot production company to a multi-picture deal, which included Star Trek as its first big film. Abrams and Trek are now being cited as part of the reasoning for Grey’s extension.


A Holiday Update From JJ Abrams

The new Star Trek movie is 136 days away, but the original plan was for it to be here in just three days, on Christmas. Back in February Paramount moved the film to the bigger summer season, but director JJ Abrams has pretty much stuck with his original schedule. Today Abrams posted a comment for fans at the official Star Trek Facebook page about the status of the movie. Read it below.


Abrams, Saldana and Quinto Talk Trek On TVGuide Channel

This week the TV Guide Channel’s "Hollywood 411" show did a brief segment on the new Star Trek movie, including some comments from director JJ Abrams, Zoe Saldana (Uhura) and Zachary Quinto (Spock). Shatner Calls Abrams Feud ‘A Game’ – Claims He Was Shown ‘Fake Script’

Did you think the William Shatner v JJ Abrams thing was over? Think again! In a new interview, The Shat is now claiming that it was all ‘a game,’ but he then says that Abrams and his team actually showed him a ‘fake script’ when they came to talk to him about the new Star Trek movie. And so here we go again!

In a new interview with MTV, Star Trek director JJ Abrams says that the final cut of the film should be completed very soon.
