Star Trek: TNG Remastered is official – Coming To Blu-ray In 2012 [Updated]

Two weeks ago we reported on new details for the Star Trek: The Next Generation – Remastered project. As was rumored, today CBS has made details of the project official. All 178 episodes will be re-scanned from the original films elements and visual effects elements will be re-composited into a 1080p workflow for mastering onto Blu-ray and runs on syndicated television and digital distribution (i.e. Netflix) both domestically and internationally.

Netflix Update: All Star Trek TV Series To Begin Streaming In July

In February we reported that CBS and Netflix had cut a deal to begin streaming a number of CBS series, including all of the Star Trek TV shows. The CBS Consumer Products presentation at the Star Trek con in Las Vegas mostly covered previously reported stuff, but there were a few new tidbits for Trek merchandise, like the USS Enterprise Pizza slicer. Paramount Working To Fix Problem With Some Star Trek 2009 DVD/Blu-ray Digital Copies

One of the cooler features of the home video release of the 2009 Star Trek movie was the inclusion of a ‘digital copy’ on the Blu-ray and 2-disk DVD editions. However, some have been having problems getting this feature to work. Paramount is aware of the situation and have put out a message that they are working on it with some guidance on how you can get yours to work.

MacFarlane Doesn’t Expect Paramount To Allow Family Guy Trek Parody – Includes Trek Refs In “Something, Something, Dark Side”

We have previously reported that Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane would like to follow up his Star Wars parodies with taking on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. However in a new interview it seems he isn’t holding out hope of Paramount cooperating, but that didn’t stop him from dropping in a few Trek refs into the new “Something Something, Something, Dark Side" parody of The Empire Strikes Back.

2009 was a big year for Star Trek and many feel is the year that Star Trek came back and was made cool again (although we always thought it was cool). Star Trek Tops Home Video Sales Charts

Paramount had big hopes for Star Trek on home video, and it looks like they are getting their wish. JJ Abrams movie has wrapped up its first week in the home video market and (just like with theatrical release) it is topping the charts. The first sales data is coming in and Star Trek leads in both sales and rentals, as well as iTunes digital downloads. More details below
